I thought the transition from high school to uni was very nice, you have so much freedom over what courses you take in university so you'll always be enjoying whatever it is you're studying. I think this depends on what school you go to though. Er I guess I took a bit of time to respond and now it's December but either way good luck on those results! Life has been more of the usual for me, lately I've been absolutely in love with an album called 'Ceres and Calypso in the Deep Time' a shoegaze/dreampop album.
It's meant to sound really dreamy which I always love and feel ecstatic listening to it (the most popular song is 'Pangaea Girls' I wonder what you think?). The album follows a time travelling white seal named Ceres, and her human friend Calypso. they journey through the Mesozoic period, starting with the aftermath of the Permian-Triassic extinction event straight through the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and finishing with the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. Lots of references to dinosaurs and prehistoric plants, so it's been a lot of fun learning about it all, hell, I never knew turtles have been around since the Triassic period?! But it's mentioned in the song 'White Seal' which takes place early in the album, ("a giant turtle offers you a ride") so I had to look it up of course, I think it's a reference to Proganochelys! A lot of the lyrics are super cheesy too, and I always love it "I write our names in the sand", "I'm a leaf shaped shadow, you're the sun, dear one" etc.
And wow I completely forgot cops and robbers is a thing, yeah we played that a lot in primary school! I even played some hand-clapping games like you mentioned, "stella ella ola clap clap clap say yes chico chico" is a tune I remember too well. back then playing the guitar was a really big thing for my friends and myself, that defined most of grade 5/6 for me! I'm pretty meh at skiing, so there were never any tricks or anything of the sort, though I had a lot of friends who were really into that kind of stuff with both skiing and snowboarding, and as I mentioned, skateboards were huge so people were constantly trying out new tricks. nowadays there isn't any sport playing from me - I spend too much sitting in front of computer screens
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I got a cake and ate it, but nothing terribly special, it's mostly just another day for me I find. I honestly dunno what kind of movie recommendations I could make because I have no idea what your tastes are (I guess it would help if I knew what some of your favourite films were?) but 'Annihilation', 'Inception' and 'Blade Runner 2049' are all really popular so it might be worth checking them out? 'Lost in Translation' and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' are both great romance films, 'Stalker' (by Tarkovsky) and 'Last Year at Marienbad' are both really famous avant-garde 'art films' if you're into that sort of thing.
As far as I know things like the effects of hedge funds aren't really studied in the social sciences, perhaps in economics, but that's usually less about politics and more about alpha and portfolio management or something, I'm not too familiar with eco, it's an area I'm planning on reading more about in the future! Outside of watching movies how are you spending this break? You'll be really busy in college so I'm guessing you're making the most out of this moment???
