Format what, to what? If you mean the whole SDcard then I have, I restored it to its 'defaults', being FAT with 32kb allocation size. Not sure if its worth mentioning, but .nds and .sav files are under the assumption they open with DoTA2.

Definitely get it repaired! My Crystal died on me in the same way a few months ago, and I still haven't gotten around to repairing it. I will at some point though, loading up a cartridge you've had for years into an old GBC or GBA is so awesome! NOSTALGIA! :D
