  • You do? I'm happy I'm not alone. I left competitive after 2nd gen (the days of 56k and Netbattle) because I didn't like the EV based system.

That was pretty much what I used to do with Gyarados. I was simply sad that he sucked in 2nd gen because of the Special split. I'd say, battling-wise, Pokémon has evolved more than regressed. Mega Evolution is really the only questionable change, although I like it.

One of the reasons I bought Blue was Meowth. But I like Arbok, too.

I used to grind for the E4 in RB at the burned mansion in Cinnabar. But you can still beat the E4 pretty easily with L50 Pokémon. They don't have the best moves and their AI is atrocious.

I only had a few Gorgeous Boxes, because the R2 Gym Leader Castle in Stadium was quite hard! The Stadium games introduced some good stuff, like relearners in Stadium 2. These small touches are the biggest reason why I consider RBYGSC as a single set and Johto as an expansion to Kanto.

When I stopped caring about my Blue version I caught a few Missingnos to see what they'd do to my games. Sadly, not much. But I remember the horror stories...

I used to be too, but I prefer to avoid confrontation these days. Not worth the effort IMO.
I have some news that will probably reassure you about Kanto probably being remade in the future. A lot of the people who are posting recently on the sinnoh remake thread (thanks for making it relevant again :) ) are saying Kanto remakes should come first (likely in response to you)! So it seems Gen I remakes have some momentum after all ^_^ (only one person said no thus far).
I have nothing against sequels. It's just that Platinum was the Sinnoh game I played. It'll be like GF having made Emerald into a sequel (which they very well could've done considering Wallace was the champ) instead of a third version, it would've left me wondering what happened before. Also the reason I dislike B2W2 is because I got hung up on the idea of Grey and perfect Kyurem as it's mascot...not sequels with a still broken Kyurem as the mascot...mostly my issue is that B2W2 didn't finish up the Tao dragon plot properly (though the remakes will hopefully fix that once they come out...but by then I may just have quit Pokemon). I guess so long as they had single sequel I would be okay with a 'Grey' having been a sequel instead of a third version.

Well FRLG or HGSS will be like ORAS in that regard...as ORAS take place years before XY. (speaking of which I guess RSE would've finished off the original timeline then instead of beginning a new one huh? with Sinnoh starting the new one with either FrLg as a parallel or indirect prequel). Also I think Pt has the same framerates as DP only more stable like how ORAS has the same as XY but more stable.
I think Gf would've done a Platinum anyways as B2W2 was probably a way to get attention to a dying hand held (the DS wasn't dying by 2008 so no need to do something out of the ordinary.
Also since you bumped ORAS to 2012 then FrLg should proably have been on 2006 to make all three remakes 10 year anniversary games.
I think this would've been better:

    2002 RS

2004 Emerald (with FrLg's release date)

    DS
    2006 DP
    2008 FrLg
    2009 Pt
    2010 HgSs

    3DS
    2012 BW (with Megas)
    2013 Grey
    2014 ORAS
I think I know why Gen III didn't look as good as other GBA titles and why they didn't look all that different from Gen II. Crystal was meant to be the last game, so GF likely didn't plan ahead. They probably used up their time on making Hoenn and it's mons then rushed off to make FrLg while editting RS while using FrLg's engine to make Emerald in time for the end of the GBA era.

Gen V is likely the opposite with it being planned early on that by the time the 3DS was/near done they couldn't go back from the DS titles they had near finished without delaying Gen V another couple of years.
Never seen anyone quote VMs. :P It doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. I don't do it because I'm lazy.

The Light Ball is very useful now because it boosts both Attack and Sp.Atk. But, with the new EV system, Pikachu's defenses are paperthin.

I think those are the best choices, yes. I favored Gyarados a lot in 1st gen. Of course, my 12-year-old self saw it in the movie and, even though Mewtwo destroyed it with little effort, I was still impressed by Gyarados. Because Mewtwo is overkill.

In Yellow, you can't catch Ekans/Koffing/Meowth. Oh, I don't think they were underleveled in RB at all, because my Pokémon were usually L52 when I reached the League.

Speaking of the starters, I had a few copies of Bulbasaur/Charmander/Squirtle because they were prizes from the Gym Leader Castle in Stadium. You could win any Pokémon that was gifted to you during the game and required you to make a choice (starters, fossils, Hitmons, Eevee).

Yellow didn't fix the glitch. It only placed a failsafe. By removing the old man in Viridian after you talk to him, you can't trigger the glitch. But I'm pretty sure the glitch could still work if the old man didn't leave.

I've heard of it, but I haven't been playing a whole lot of Pokémon lately. :P

Your opinions are pretty strong. 0.o You took me by surprise.
I've played Yellow around the time I played Crystal and there are a few things I don't like about it.

Pikachu is too weak for a starter. I remember using him until the end, but even with Thunder I couldn't damage Lorelei's Pokémon effectively. It was quite a disappointment, because the main draw of Yellow is the whole interaction with Pikachu.

Another thing was having access to all the starters. It was too "convenient" for me, because you have a very balanced team if you decide to train all three. Other games in the series require more effort in team building.

Finally, not being able to access Team Rocket's Pokémon, and the gym rosters having overleveled and repetitive Pokémon.

    Honorable mention: no Missingno.

What I like about Yellow is mostly the Pokémon art, really. The art in the Western Red and Blue is terrible IMO. But, if Red and Blue had this kind of art, I'd not play Yellow. My favorite version of the lot is Red (I got Blue back then but later I preferred Red).

I never got Crystal because I already had Gold version and I thought Crystal was unnecessary, until I played Stadium 2 and the R2 trainers all had moves that only exist in Crystal, like Cross Chop Elekids and so on. :P
It's funny that we disagree on Yellow being canon when our tastes in Pokémon are similar. :P I personally favor 1st and 2nd gen, too, because of nostalgia. And I too hate RSE.

I regret not playing Crystal when I was younger. I actually think Crystal's graphics don't leave a lot to be desired compared to RSE. :P The game's only fault IMO is the lack of a third uber, so they had to use Suicune, and IMO Suicune doesn't really have anything special going for it besides looking beautiful.

I did play Crystal in the VBA in 2007 and I pretty much did what I always wanted to do in the game, since I could trade and have any Pokémon I wanted. Then I used my team in Stadium 2 through PJ64's plugins.
Those sound like fine names. Maybe Fire Blast Red for Red instead to fit in with those other two?

Btw did you ever notice that the Kanto remakes first part seems to come from the evolution stones? Fire Stone for Red, Leaf Stone (would explain why they didn't go with GrassGreen) for Green, and the trademarked title for a Blue remake was Water Blue which is the Water Stone. So Thunder Yellow would fit great with a possible Yellow remake either way :3
What would you like the Gen VII games to be called? I'll like for the new games to be called Garnet and Peridot in reference to Red and Green. With twin versions called Aquamarine and Topaz as follow ups (referencing Blue and Yellow). I guess they could go with Garnet and Aquamarine but then it'll feel like an RSE reference...I guess that's fine though too :) Also Blaze Red and Torrent Blue (or Overgrowth Green (way to steal AS title as longest game title...)or Thunder Yellow). Last but not least Dawn Diamond and Portal Pearl.
Its only cause really shes out shadowed my grimsley lol plus some believe she looks too old to wear what she does haha. Grimsley actually is now i believe won the best quotes award haha

    Whats ur fav type?
And lol glaceon is like my fav pokemon haha
Definitely give Crystal a try. It's probably my favorite game, overall, and it's very similar to HGSS (just more outdated). If you can't find a GBA SP and working cartridge, you can always give the emulators a try.

I'm a huge Gen 1 and 2 fan, period. I probably like Johto a little more than Kanto (due to it having more depth and backstory), but both regions are great.

I have so many favorites, it's hard to pick just one, but here are many that I like:

    Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur
    Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard
    Clefairy/Clefable
    Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff
    Meowth/Persian
    Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam
    Gastly/Gengar/Haunter
    Staryu/Starmie
    Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra
    Magikarp/Gyarados
All Eeveelutions except Glaceon and Sylveon (Sorry!)
    Lapras
    Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite
    Articuno/Zapdos
    Mewtwo
    Mew
    Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr
    Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss
    Marill/Azumarill
    Sneasel/Weavile
    Houndour/Houndoom
    Larvitar/Pupitar/Tyranitar
    Suicune
    Lugia

I also like some from the later games like Milotic, Gardevoir, and Lucario, but as I said, Gens 1 and 2 are my main thing.
Haha i looked at your post!
Ive played HGSS just not gen 2 which i plan on playing crystal when i have the time :)
