I wonder...
I've been to church occasionally, with friends or distant relatives. They usually take the kids out about a third of the way through and give bible readings. After that, we get to interpret Christianity as we wish. Though if someone says something remotely heretical...
Basically it works like this: I'm fine with any religion until I find out whether they obstruct science and make war. Then I compare the image of the religion with the people I know from it these days, and I take my ideas from there.
Thing is, most of the Christians my age who I know would rather not be Christians.
Btw, all of the Mormons that I know are sweet, loving and kind. Hard to reconcile the image of their religion with the bigamists who hung innocent union workers in Utah...
But they have obviously changed a lot since then.
While I can see many inconsistencies in their founding tales, I still respect their choice, as I respect the choice of those Christians that don't say dumb things about Muslims.
And there isn't much different between a normal brick house and a mud brick house, only that the bricks in mine are coarser. And you only have to stick wet clay to the wall when you want to hang pictures.
