But, as I said, that would put the Gen 4 remakes in Gen 7 instead of Gen 8, which just wouldn't work. They'll only have time to do one remake pair, especially since Gen 7 will more than likely be for the New 3DS (enough of a reason to not remake Gen 4 then... that's only one handheld after the DS). Plus, I doubt that the New 3DS will still be in use by 2020, as the 3DS' successor probably will have come out by then.
FRLG didn't have Wi-Fi (nor did any of the GBA games); that was introduced with DP. And, the elemental Hyper Beams are terrible, pointless moves, IMO. And, the National Dex was something that RSE should've been able to complete on their own had GF planned the games better. (Plus, RSE + FRLG weren't enough to complete it, anyways, as you needed the GameCube games for several Pokémon, mostly Legendaries.)
Well, they were all made for completely different handhelds with different capabilities, so they don't really look anything like each other. In terms of planning and development, though, HGSS and ORAS definitely have that in common.
Only because they have graphics that look like this instead of this. If you move down to these graphics, you get even better framerates.
I assume. My postgame Lugia story idea is an example of one.
The trainer art and Pokémon art can't really be compared. While the Pokémon art style changed drastically from Gen 2 to Gen 3, it mostly stayed the same after that. The Gen 3 art is a little duller in color than the Gen 4 and later art, but it's not a noticeable difference, and it can easily be fixed with a saturation tool.
The trainer art, on the other hand, is a different story. It changed drastically just going from Gen 3 to Gen 4, and the difference is even more noticeable when you compare it to Gen 6. The Gen 3 trainers are shorter, thicker, duller in color, and have smaller eyes.
Now that the official arts also double as VS portraits, characters having outdated artwork is a real problem. The Gen 4 and 5 art is similar enough in quality and style to Gen 6's to pass, but anything from Gen 3 or earlier just won't do.
Here are the remaining characters without modern artwork--Red, Leaf, Giovanni, Lorelei, Agatha, Kris, Juan, Scott, and the Hoenn Frontier Brains. Without newer artwork, it's harder to bring these characters back in the games as battleable opponents, as they will all need brand new art for their VS portraits. Luckily, the Gen 1 characters probably won't have to wait too long for new remakes to get theirs (and possibly, Kris, too), but unfortunately, the Gen 3 characters aren't so lucky. They had their chance, and ORAS decided to give the middle finger to Emerald. :(
Well, if Crystal were to be remade, I could see Lyra getting redesigned to look more like Kris and thus, retconned into being the same character as her. Lyra's much more of an established character than either Kris or Leaf (She actually has a canon name!), so it would be harder to scrap her completely.
Well, the most obvious names for Red and Blue are already taken, and I can't see people being too fond of them getting those names. Going by the remaining preset names in RBY, they could be renamed "Jack" (Red) and "John" (Blue). Dummy trainer data in FRLG also referred to Blue as "Terry."
The female PC, of course, will need a brand new name. (Especially, if they suck it up and go with "Ash" and "Gary," as she has no anime counterpart.) Reading around, two of Leaf's optional names in FRLG's data are "Jodi" and "June," which fit with "Jack" and "John" if they go with those names.
