Exactly. While the later generations may have opponents that appear stronger on the surface, the newer games give you so many more items and other benefits to use against them. For example, while the original Sun/Moon has Totems not as strong as Ultra's, Ultra has more Pokemon and the Move...

Yeah no. When I first played, I was amazed at how many times I had opponents be faster than me, survive hits they shouldn't, or take way less from my attacks than I felt like they would previously. It took me more than one run to figure it out: those EV trained big battles can be a chore.

Yep. I have one for XY, one for USUM and recently got one for SwSh. It's fun to have even though for the latter I'm not focused on keeping any one particular file.

I got Sword on release then Shield for Christmas six weeks later. I've restarted them both multiple times, but Shield I have over 80 hours on my current save, which I started the run on mid-October, mostly in part to my completing the Pokedex. I'll likely restart it in due time.

Ruby and Sapphire. While I enjoyed them a lot more for their time, nowadays there are things that just don't stand well the same way. The characters are a joke (a rival that you never see their starter's final form, and a villainous team with redundant schemes and use all of THREE Pokemon), and...

Ah yes, BW. It did take a little while for me to REALLY appreciate these games. But with lots of Pokémon I really loved, an epic plot, very good characters and great final battles it made for one of the best experiences in the franchise. Thank you BW (=

I'd say Flame Body for Volcarona over Swarm. Flame Body can save you on the off-chance you switch into a contact move. Swarm isn't bad, but it's situational.
