I am currently a Duke and try to battle there all day. In fact, I use the area as my training area to once my team reaches a good level. The only thing I don't like about being a Duke is battling all those beginning levels.

3 Stage does work well to! Perhaps starting like ball creature, then it evolves into a kid size with a "bouncy ball" shape rock, then evolving into an Atlas type, carrying a big rock ball.

Seems interesting. I know that in Greek Mythology, as a punishment, some guy has to push up a heavy rock up a hill for eternally in the after life. Perhaps incorporate that into a rock pokemon?
