There's like a ton of other stuff you have to do to do it the right way; you just have to really take care of your ears, sometimes doing it too early won't work and your ear could bleed or it could cause infections or something. I don't know how to explain it all really well; I'd have to link you to this site I bookmarked for a better explanation on it. XD

You have to wait for the piercing to heal before you can even take it out, or else it'll start to close. Plus, the amount of time you usually have to wait depends on the person. I'm gonna wait about three or so months just to be on the safe side.
