VERNE: "And they call me 'Curious George'. Well kid, I like to think I'm friendly with just about everybody, but business is business. I usually pick out the weeds from the garden just fine enough, so while I have plenty of connections, I got a short list of real friends. As for Amaryllis, she and I do business since she's a florist and all. That, and when I'm down that way, she often talks to me from her apartment balcony when I'm trimming the hedges around the flats."

VERNE: "Worst customer experience? Phew! You know they say the worst junk is the kind that stays in your noggin the longest? Kid, I had a client who hired us to clean up their backyard. They were fine on the phone with our price quotes and everything, but when I sent one of my new guys out there to do the work, he came back and told me just how miserable it was working with this client. I mean they were picky, picky. I figure, oh, it's just the new guy blowin' steam, no worries, right? Wrong. He started telling me that the address he met the client at, the client said my guy wasn't gonna clean up at that address. He pointed two houses over. This lady was a middleman for another, former client who I had personally refused to service anymore because they had refused to pay for my quality service the first time around. My guy did the yard work anyway, which still blows my mind he didn't refuse this snaky runaround tactic for a client and residence that weren't under contract. So now I've had to put in a new clause in our contracts about junk like this, I've had to inform all my employees how to handle this situation since it apparently ain't no common sense, and I had to call up Collections because guess what? Neither of these clients ever paid me for the work and they're blaming each other on who's responsible so I gotta sic the feds on the bozos. What a mess!"

VERNE: "Naw. I haven't found the one yet to settle down and make me a family. I'm not really looking for a sweetheart either, right now. When I see her though, I'll know."

LUMEN: "There's quite a lot that goes into lamps, actually. My store deals with lighting: indoor, outdoor, home, and residential. Why, if it wasn't for my store, nighttime in Jubilee would be pitch black if not for a glimpse of the moon. I even supply streetlamp posts, and yes, there have been several incidences where a post had been terribly bent out of shape by a street brawl or frightfully bad weather. But before my glassblowing, lampworking, and retail career at Lumen's, I used to be a Lampert in the human city, several days over in the east. I was rather listless, hanging around crematoriums and hospices, but one day, I had stumbled upon a workshop. I had let myself in, and hanging perched on a chandelier and hidden out of sight, I watched the workers make beautiful objects of glass until the late evening when they left for their homes. That was when I started to experiment for myself with glass and my own flames. One thing led to another, some residents in the city had rounded up a number of us wandering Lampert and chased us out into the outskirts, and, well, I decided I'd try my hand at drifting as I had always done. I had some interesting nights in the wild, even coming across a bed of Dusk Stones which evolved me. I eventually stumbled upon Jubilee, and, well, the rest is history."

LUMEN: "Being a Ghost type in a specialist store may or may not pinch your sales. I like to think it all depends on how you present both yourself and your specialty. I am a Ghost whose store is crucial to operations, so it's hard to avoid me. I'm essential to the public, and if my regular customers happen to be Jubilee's public utilities commissioners, well, I have a positive public image supported by Town Hall themselves. There are some Pokemon who find Ghost types to be... 'scary' or even 'evil', and it's a touchy subject for me personally since I know my own past hanging around those morgues and such is definitely morbid, but it was also in my nature. I can't help to change people's minds about whether or not nature can be inherently evil or wrong, but I can be sure to be an upstanding citizen for my new town, so that at least others can see that Ghosts can be many things other than wicked."

LUMEN: "My flames? Well, there's not much story to tell, really. I was just... born silver. Although the color of my flames, well, I assume it has something to do with the source of my fuel. These flames will be burning for a long time, but my past is my past."

It feels like everyone is out to get Benicle. Rina keeps being somewhat mean to him and Samuel ran away from him. Plus nobody has used his real name yet(Although he only knows that Amaryllis is mispronouncing it, not anybody else)

Is this a statement, or are you genuinely upset about this?

Even if I was upset, it's an RP and everyone can act how they choose and I control my character however. It's a free world.

But I'm not. Just a statement and to be honest find it a little amusing.

Good. Just checking; admittedly I find it hard to distinguish your intentions since I don't know your personality well enough yet.

Samuel has a distinctive fear of all Bug types, so he's rather inclusive in that regard, don't worry. Rina wasn't quite mean in this latest post. She's up on her own euphoria, a side effect that is Disclosed's interpretation of the state changes in Curse for a non-Ghost type. If anything right now, she's being loud and obnoxiously unaware.

Benicle isn't established to the crew yet. He flew in, made an untoward scene, and now he's mostly been hovering around thinking he's being sneaky for a buzzing, unsteadily fast Ninjask. If anything, he makes himself known by completely ignoring personal space and blurting out thoughts quickly.

Makes for an interesting interaction and tension of which he isn't aware because he is so single-minded. He gets mad that Amaryllis doesn't remember his name but he himself doesn't pay attention to her two-sentence quip to Spora. Rina so much as looks at him wrong and he jumps to the conclusion that he needs to tell her off before she so much as opens her mouth.

Thus the SECOND chapter of Gabe's backstory, a continuation of the thug life of sorts. It was 15 PAGES, so enjoy my hard work. No one will ever top this.

I'm really liking these outside stories you're making! It's cool to see Gabriel in situations more akin to his backstory; as I can imagine it's difficult to place him in anything similar within the confines of the actual RP. The Yamask stuff was particularly intriguing, I really want to see where you're going with it.

That was my entire intent the whole time. Yes, I joined cornered specifically to write that in. #itsallaconspiracy

In truth I was thinking about this being all pg, and though about what a saturday morning cartoon villain would do. I remember the TMNT series and I was like 'you know, I'll go with that idea'. Just a silly idea, especially considering these are tough mobsters.

As for that stuff, I actually had the idea while talking with Jaunt waaaaay near the beginning of the rp. I figure it would be a funny gimmick to have a Yamask around and such, but instead I went with another mon who will cameo later on. So I recycled such a mon for the backstory part. And I'll get several more chapters out thanks to this, it helped my muse to write it.

what happened to asking questions did that die cuz I had a joke

I hope your fanfics get listed under the art section so people don't have to swim through dank memes just to read your work. I haven't finished going through your novel (ah don't judge me my eyes are that of a shrewd's) so I would like to go back to them without having to actively search for it through everything.

Also, I now ship Rina and Bubbles as much as I ship Cicaro and Goro (Cigoro?).

I used to ship Sam and Ammy, until I realize their relationship is more akin to that of a mother with her surrogate child. And, uh... yeah.

    Ok.

    bye.

  • Well folks, we're already a quarter into 7 AM. We already read about Amaryllis and Cicaro's gossip of his artsy fartsy uncle and his slights, but we also learned a little bit about where Amaryllis came from. Her mother Edelweiss and her grandmother Nerine really cared about her, not to mention that if it wasn't for Goro pushing along a raft with some Pokemon on it--including the now mayor of Jubilee--down the stream that her colony lived, she'd have never left for Jubilee. Why, she may not have ever left her commune! Good questions asked by Cursed Rina and Benicle there, guys!

Blair looks like she knows her stuff with that spectacular Fire Spin magic trick, even if Castiel kind of winged it considering he's a, well, a semi-permeable aberration.

That was an especially good Druag post, as well. What a gritty character, and yet, I'm drawn. I should probably... you know... finish reading that background chapter you wrote for him, Orx. I've just been so busy reading Gabriel's, rofl.

Ech, State Your Business is still up and running! Feel free to ask Verne or Lumen questions! I'll make a post when the first edition of SYB is through, so that I can introduce two more teaser characters.

I will also make sections later for the Cornered-related fanfiction in our Fan Service corner, since I think these will be fun things to look back on and read, you guys. Looks like Greiger started a trend, everybody!

Alright, and last but not least, time to comb for an activity check. Remember guys, it's always good to make a post before time runs out. Don't wait on other people if they're slowing you down; you can have your character do something in-between, however you can or like. Let's get this rolling, folks!

You have 48 hours as of this post to update the IC with your character before your character slot is freed. If you are late due to IRL scheduling, please inform me in the future so that I can give you however-long an extension.

You are severely overdue. You two have 36 hours as of this post to update the IC with your character before your character slot is freed.

(the closest i am for IC stuff; these are just jokes that are just flippantly playing around with two characters I thought about for this RP. Hover over their pic icons just for the question, most of this is gag.)

    Ringo the Poliwhirl
    Verne the Simisage

So, what's the best way to manage your own successful business?

Howdy, Mr. Verne! The name's Ringo! I'm just a simple Poliwhirl, born and raised in Jubilee. I'm the second oldest of forty siblings, but enough about myself; I wouldn't want to bore you with my entire life story or anything.

Uh, sorry to take up any of your time, but I just wanted to ask for some advice from you. You see, I used to run my own little shop here in Jubilee but financial issues forced me to shut the place down. I am currently searching for a job to cover my rent, but it seems like I'm fresh out of luck here in Jubilee; everything's either filled up or they just don't want to hire me because I'm, quote on quote, boring. That's a little mean, but I won't let that deter me from staying positive. Anyways! Back when I was running my business, I've had many struggles on getting customers. I tried to make my shop as unique as possible but the distinctive appeal only alienated customers and it killed my business. I tried to follow popular trends to keep things simple and familiar, but then my shop failed to stand out among the other stores.

So, what I'm trying to ask is... What is the best way to manage your own business as an entrepreneur?
From your own personal experiences, how do you keep it alive long enough to get something out of it? I want to return to my shop after I've made enough money, but I don't want to make the same mistakes and end up in a financial disaster once again.

Also, if by any chance, are you currently hiring anyone? I could really use a job here. I couldn't get hired at that store down the boulevard -- the one that sells all sorts of odds and ends. You know Mr. Castiel, right? Nice guy, especially for a spook. Uh, not that I discriminate against Ghost-Types! Oh, gosh no! ... I didn't want to bother with the other store across the street, as I've heard their employees are... well, I don't want to be mean by being too specific, but they don't really sound like ideal co-workers.

CAN SOMEONE, ANYBODY GIVE ME SOME LOVE? MAMA HATES ME CAUSE I CAN'T EVOLVE INTO A GALLADE.

    I LOVE YOU.

No, wait. I am getting ahead of myself.

I drew a picture of you. Do you like it? I think it is okay. I tried my best to include all your features, but it is very difficult to draw someone while you are stalking them. I hope you don't find that inappropriate. You are very hot. I mean, literally, you are very hot and it hurts a lot to touch you. But you are also hot, as in very attractive. I am not sure of your gender, but I am willing to expand my options just so I can gently caress that burning spirit of yours.

Do you think I am attractive? No, wait. That doesn't matter. Do you think appearance matters in the long run when it comes to popularity? I ask that in a general sense. You see, I feel like everyone avoids me even when I try so hard to be friends with them. I make small talk, I get the cold shoulders. I try to make jokes, nobody laughs. I followed people straight to their homes, they place a restraining order. I've grown so bored of being lonely. But! I think I might have a chance at that store with the lovely Florges! Even though there are no job openings because the universe is desperately trying to break my unbreakable broken heart, I know that everyone there is destined to be my friend, a-and, uh, they just don't know it yet! Yes! I've been watching them since the start... As a matter of fact, I was told if I could drew something lewd for a very cute Furret that works there, they'll be my friend. I am motivated. I am strong. Soon, that Furret and I along with the rest will be the bestest friends, forever and ever and EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

    ... ... ...

ALSO HAVE YOU EVER MET A HUMAN?

    I HEARD THEY MAKE SPAGHETTI.

    I LOVE YOU.

    Cigoro comic coming soon. maybe.

  • ROFL XTRASHY'S POST IS JUST SPORA STARING AT A SPECK OF DUST

AS IF THIS ROLEPLAY COULDN'T SINK ANY LOWER, WE HAVE TRULY MET THE NADIR

    State Your Business!

    512.png

VERNE: "You had a business? ... Oh yeah, I think I saw you a couple times squattin' on the stairs of Town Hall. You tried to sell pet rocks. Kid, digging up some loose cobblestone around the town square fountain and calling them pets won't make you any money. Heck, I already paid for those rocks with my taxes! Now you might be saying, 'But Verne, you sell bags of dirt!' But let me tell you, I sell the richest, loamiest dirt you ever thought to see on God's green earth. It's the kind of stuff that one big blue reindeer with the fairy lights on them antlers would look at and go 'Whooey! I wanna snack on that when I turn back into a tree!' That's what you need. You need a top quality product. Even if it isn't top quality, you need to sell it like it is, kid. Listen, there ain't nothin' new under the sun, but if you can find yourself a niche--something you're good at and knowledgeable of, have a passion for, and can fill a want or need in the general public around you--you've got yourself the right foundation already. It all comes down to what your good or service is, how well you know it, and how to properly market your product in your business' location. For me, it was easy: Everybody needs some help with yard work, whether it's your backyard garden or the mayor needs the park landscaped. But I also make sure that my service is the best it can be, my employees are trained under the same guidelines and held to the same standards, that I accept all customer feedback and take what they have to say into consideration so that next time we're on top of our game, and I encourage other customers to refer their friends to our business if they think we did a good job! I mean, I don't have any competition in Jubilee yet, but it's best to cement my reputation as rustic and reliable before my title's poached."

VERNE: "Speaking of competition, yeah, Castiel and Amaryllis, right? Yeah, everybody knows about their feud. It's been going on for a couple years now, and this town ain't but three years old, neither. It got to the point that when Castiel came over for Movie Night, I had to phone Mary so she could call it off. Now Mary only comes on the first and third Friday nights, and Castiel comes every other time. It's a real shame that I can't even watch Galaxy Maritime: The Comet Cadets with all my friends because those two are so bitter about the way things turned out. I don't usually tell 'mon this but because you look like a nice kid, you not joining up with either store right now is probably for the best."

Jaunt is both the GM and MC of this roleplay, enthusiastically summarizing what has already happened

SO NOW I DON'T HAVE TO READ, NEH-HEH-HEH (jk)

I'm leaning towards planning out a "fanfic" of Rina mingling with her friend group or family members. I was only, at first, willing to do it if I felt I never got to elaborate on the relationships she has with friends and family outside of her job; that may still be the case, idk.

Well dang. Looks like everybody's doing this fanfiction thing. I refuse to jump on the wagon because that takes the mystery out of my characters. Best believe!

I thought fanfictions are usually not taken as canon, so why it would ruin the mystery for anyone? Also, shouldn't people write fanfics for other characters rather than writing it for their own? I mean, I'm not sure if it's considered fanfiction if you're exclusively expanding content for your own OC. If anything, that seems like it's just providing expedition through a "behind the scenes" tour, as to avoid clogging up the RP with so much text. Wouldn't fanfictions for this RP be like an intruder like me, who's not even part of the IC, haphazardly wrote a saucy ten paged piece that explicitly details the relationship between Spora and her beloved lump of dust mites and dead skin cells? Not that I... I'm going to do that or anything, I already have my hands full with other things. Maybe I'm taking the term too literally and it's just a joke that flew over my head, but still.

(I wonder if this RP is going to get a list of accolades, considering its success has gotten to the point where it is now garnering fanfiction. And why is this not on the Pokemon Community Wiki for the Roleplay section?)

Also, Spora's "I don't give a psyduck" attitude makes me laugh so much; I don't remember if I ever said this, I'm pretty sure I did, but I'll say it again, Spora is the most accurate representation of a typical employee in modern society. I wonder if the fact that she's a literal zombie alludes to some sort of twisted analogy for workers that are forced to abide by capitalism.

  • ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ That Spora post was goddamn rich

I think Jaunt was rather trying to say spinoff/lore, rather than fanfiction. Though I'm pretty sure what people have been writing is canon, though.

Post should be coming soon, I'm honestly just waiting for things to pick up the pace and customers to come in (I'm a shallow man, I need something to drive me) which should hopefully be soon.

Also Jaunt you should change the color on the boss' dialogue now that the background is light, it's sort of hard to read
