The Sinnoh Elite Four [From left to right]: Aaron, Bertha, Flint and Lucian.
The Elite Four (Japanese: 四天王 Four Heavenly Kings)

The Sinnoh Elite Four. The four most powerful trainers (aside from Cynthia, the Champion herself) of Sinnoh.
What were your thoughts of them? Did they provide enough of a challenge in Diamond/Pearl? What about in Platinum? Did you like their updated teams and room designs? Which is your favourite?

As you can see, my favourite is obviously Aaron. I love his determined attitude and demeanour. While his team didn't prove much of a challenge for my party, I enjoyed battling with him nonetheless. Not to mention his Platinum battlefield is stunning. There's also a crapton of amazing fan art which admittedly has swayed me in his favour.

    What about you? Discuss!

  • They weren't much of challenge for me, since I've leveled my Pokemon to 75's. My favorite is Flint because Fire types obviously, he has also Pokemon starter in his team, which is very rare for Gym Leaders/E4 to have one.

  • On the topic of Flint; I've got to say I was quite disappointed with his team in Diamond and Pearl, considering only two of his Pokemon were fire types. The other three...just made no sense, even if hardly any new fire types were introduced in Gen IV. I'm definitely glad they gave him a hardy fire team in Platinum.

  • Overally I think the Platinum E4 has the best and "most challenging" type combination in Pokemon, I didn't like the previous gen E4 much in comparision to gen 4.

Hmm...in D/P they were...adequate. Lucian, Flint's Infernape and Bertha's Hippowdon, were the only real challenges before Cynthia. Although I was still a fan of Flint even though his team was naff.

In Platinum the upgraded teams were a great bonus. Aaron gaining a Scizor and Yanmega made him a lot more fearsome than a Beautifly. Bertha's Gliscor and Rhyperior were great additions, as were the powerful Espeon and Gallade to Lucian's team. But Flint was definitely brought up to a more appropriate standard for an Elite Four member. Flareon, Houndoom and Magmortar were much more enjoyable to face than Lopunny, Steelix and Drifblim. Him and Volkner definitely needed their added Eeveelutions and Magmortar / Electivire.

The decoration of their rooms in Platinum was a nice added touch too. And when I didn't know about their level gains when I went back for a re-match...I think I was dead in the water by the time I got to Lucian :)

  • They weren't much of a challenge, but still greater than the R/S/E and B/W E4 in my opinion.

I have no feelings toward the character design on many of them or their personality as I usually don't care about the actual members of the Elite Four, I just care about beating them. Gym leaders actually interest me sometimes though which is odd.

  • I have to admit these guys were pretty hard, but after all they are the Elite Four. In Diamond & Pearl I admit their teams looked lame, especially Flint's because his Pokemon were not all Fire-types. At least Platinum gave them all some awesome Pokemon like Yanmega, Gliscor, Gallade, Magmortar and such, and the new room designs were really badass too.

As for which member I like best, probably Lucian cos I do have a liking towards Psychic-type specialists.

  • I liked the Elite Four. As with what you would expect, they weren't pushovers (except Flint in D/P, he only had 2 Fire-types...), and provided a good challenge. My favourite Elite Four member has to be Lucian, because his team is full of strong Pokemon like Espeon, Gallade and Alakazam. They were a bit easier in Diamond and Pearl, as some of them had Pokemon that were a bit on the weak side (Aaron having Dustox and Beautifly, Berta's Quagsire, Flint's Flareon and Lucian's Bronzong), but that's just me.

To me, they were hard when you didn't have an overpowered Uber mon (glaring at you, Garchomp), since Garchomp gets moves that basically defeat all of them (Dragon Claw/Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Fang and Crunch is all you essentially needed to run the E4 into the ground), but in my 1st Platinum playthrough, it was a fun challenge.

I remember rebattling Flint in Platinum with a three man team, was the most painful battle of my life. The first time however, I didn't struggle with anyone in particular since I had done some grinding in Victory Road the day before. It's hard to pick a favourite, but I'd have to say I actually kind of favour Lucian. Aaron was pretty badass with the jump from the sky, but I have to say I like Lucian's style. He's clever, he thinks about his moves and how they'll affect the outcome of the battle, in general he's an interesting character. Although at first I mistook him as a girl, he has a pretty bizarre design. Aaron and Flint would tie for my second favourite though. Overall I didn't find the Sinnoh Elite Four that challenging but personality-wise they were all great in their own ways.

They were all meh. BUT SWEET JEZUS CYNTHIA WAS BOSS! Man she's so awesome. She almost beat me, if it wasn't for my level 75 Salamance rushing in and destroying her Garchomp. Oh yeah did I mention that she's the best boss ever? Did I? She's so awesome... Did I mention she's the best?....

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone here and say that Flint was really annoying in D/P, with the whole Lopunny, Drifblim, etc. thing. Aaaaaand they were more challenging in Platinum then in Diamond. Also, i really like Flint's room, also the fact that he has a FLAREON is boss. so yeah.
My favorite one is Lucian, because of his hair. like seriously guys. also, i like psychic pokemon.
but i think Cynthia is my favorite champion out of all games. I don't know, I just really like how she's strong and stuff.

  • Maybe it was just me, but I felt like the Elite Four was basically a walk in the park, even in Platinum. The first time I went through, my Empoleon was basically on par with the other Pokemon's levels, but it literally swept Aaron, Bertha and Flint on its own. Lucian was a little more difficult, but even then, I never worried about losing at any point in the battle. Cynthia, though, was one of the toughest battles I can ever remember having.

And I almost forgot that Flint only had a Rapidash and Infernape in terms of Fire Pokemon in D/P. Sure, it was fixed by Platinum, but it almost would've been better if they either had him train a different type to begin with, or just replace him all together.

The first times around, they were challenging because my Pokemon were under-leveled. They aren't all that difficult to beat with a decent team, though.

That Drifblim's aftermath was annoying, though. And Quagsire's Double Team.
