June CoroCoro - Four New Pokémon and Characters!

This month's edition of CoroCoro is starting to leak and although the majority of it will probably cover what we've already discovered from E3, it could give us some in-depth details about this information! I will post the scans to this post as they start to come through.

Highlighted points

  • The starting town is called Vaniville Town and has three new characters that includes Sana, Tieruno & Toroba. You've just moved into this new Town.
  • The First Gym Leader is called Viola who is a Bug Type gym leader in Santalune City
  • The female protagonist is called Serena
  • The male protagonist is called Calem
  • There is a Rhyhorn that you own and it lives in your front yard

Scan #1 Shows what appears to be the artwork for female character who follows you in the early game, her name is Sana. Could this be one of the Multiple Rivals that the developers were talking about?
Spoiler:

Scan #2 Another image (below) shows a character named Alexa who will be seen in the anime with a Go-Goat - this airs 18th July, and the second character is named Viola who is the first gym leader! She specialists in Bug Types. It appears that she owns the gym we saw in the very first trailer where the player lands on a web, cool!
This issue says that your journey into Kalos will begin with these three characters along with 'Sere', who we assume is a fourth character.
Spoiler:

Scan #3 Vivillon's evolutionary line is as follows: Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa which finally evolves into Vivillon as seen in the scan below.
Spoiler:

Scan #4 Displays two new Pokémon one named Litleo who is the lion cub Pokémon, it is Fire/Normal and knows the new move War Cry. The Flower Pokémon is named Flabébé who is another Fairy type Pokémon! It knows the move Fairy Wind.
Spoiler:

Scan #5 Shows Three characters Tierno, Trevor & Shauna (From left to right respectively) these three start your adventure with you and act as rivals throughout the game, as well as the protagonist you did not choose so Calem if you chose Serena and Serena if you chose Calem. You can see the five of them sitting around a table talking below.

Fire Shinx! Shishiko's really cute and so are Vivilon's pre-evos.
Furabebe is a little odd, and I don't really like it's art much. I might have to get used to it. As long as the flower is just part of the art and not the Pokemon it'self I'm fine with that.
Viola's the one with the camera right? She looks cute, and there's finally a Gym Leader who's a photographer! I'm interested in photography so she is interesting. I wonder what type Viola will have? Maybe she's our Fairy type Gym Leader?

Sana's really cute too. Though her shorts seem kind of short for someone's looks like she's like 10? I don't know but she's adorable!

Serena and Callum is not what I expected the protagonist to be named. Serena's Latin and Callum is Gaelic so it seems odd if that's really their English names. Selena Gomez is French for "Moon goddess." apparently and works for some reason. I still want their English names to be Xavier and Yvonne and those are two names used in the the PSS battle thing during the Developer's Roundtable last night. Those names seem more fitting. We'll just wait and see though. Hopefully Pansy has a better name in English. That just sounds like she's really weak like in a "pansy".

Also: "A Rhydon lives in the player's front garden." O____O WHAT WHO WOULD HAVE A RHYDON IN THEIR FRONT YARD???

Shishiko:
"This Pokemon has a temper, is quick to fight, and lives in packs. When they become stronger, they leave their packs to go live alone. The red bang on its head emits heat."

I like the applications that they are giving to hordes. Still, I don't really like its design. Furabebe and Vivillon's pre-evos are a bit 'meh' imo...

It's about time we have a lion pokemon! I know we have shinx but I don't think its based off of a lion. The female should be faster than the male /lionnerdrighthere

There is nothing French about "Gomez." It's obviously hispanic. Selena is Greek for Sky. Its male counterpart in Latin is Caelum - see: "Callum" - and equally means Sky or Heaven.

Selena meaning "Moon Goddess" may be derived from, y'know, Sailor Moon, or simply the other way around. Regardless, the Latin meaning holds more relevance to the series - "Sky" or "Heaven" see: Yveltal - than "Moon Goddess" does.

On the second scan I saw some kind of anime shot or something. Looks interesting.

The rivals don't really look like... rivals. They look too much like kids; in the past games at least the rivals looked like trainers but if that's how they will dress for the rest of the game I can't really think of them as Pokemon Trainers in the first place aha

Serena means Calm, serenity. It different from Selena dispite the close spelling.
Also I double checked Callum (which I recognized as latin) and it means "dove" a symbol of Peace. Just like DPP had Light, and BW had strength, the XY name theme is Peace.

Should've named her "Irene" then :v that's Greek for "peace" and apparently some Grecian diety, too... As well as a handful of Christian martyrs and other figures.

>> that may or may not be my name... which may or may not be the reason I suggest it.

I love the name Irene, so I wouldn't have mind if that was her name.
Serena's also a pretty name. Gen 5 still has my least favorite and Gen 6 has my favorite followed by G4,G3,G1,G2

I meant to put Gomez in a strikeout (you know this) but PC was going through downtime so I couldn't help it. D: So I didn't meant that part to be serious. It was a joke! XD *edits post quickly*

Selena means "Moon Goddess" in French nonetheless.

I don't like the design of the rivals, but I do like the Gym Leaders.

Since that Hilda-shorts-wannabe Sana is obviously our mysterious stalker from the trailers, perhaps the reason why she's following you is because you need to help her catch her starter? (like Wally in gen 3) Since there's you, 3 "rivals," and the unselected protagonist, and only 3 starters, it seems like that's the only reasonable way for everyone to actually get a Pokémon.

That would make some sense...though wouldn't it need to be two of them you help catch Pokémon? Because there's three starters, and you get one, unless one of the others get's the same one as you only stronger...which was one of the fake rumors...

If Furabebe is going to stick with that flower then I hope it's at least Fairy/Grass

If one of the rivals gets "the same as you only stronger," that would mean the professor would have 2 of the Pokémon you selected. If that's the case, shouldn't they also have multiple of the others? Then you'd have two of the same Pokémon used twice amongst the group. While that's possible, I don't know if that would really be the best option. The point of having multiple rivals is having a variety of trainers to fight, and if they're using the same Pokémon as each other, then it just gets boring (that's why no one likes Bug Catchers, lol).

That's a good point. But I think the Pokémon is the little fairy creature itself, and it just sort of...sits on the flower xD Like the flower isn't a part of it, just a decoration.

I am really interested in the evo form of the lion cub. I hope he has a mane of fire. I also love the fact that we will have even more rivals in this game.

Also, serebi says one of the women, Pansy, will be in the Anime on July 18th. That is why you saw the Anime shot.

Well some fairies allowed themselves to be carried around by the wind by holding onto a flower...so that's proably the basis for the design or at least the explanation they'll proably give. This also explains why Sylveon is so light as they have a relation to wind, and also one to the night (explain Sylveon's signature move, and Jigglypuff being part fairy).

I know, that's proably why we'll need to help two of them catch their's, or home they get unique starters...may one get's an Eevee and the other a Pichu? A reference to Pokémon Yellow.
