Interviews with you: Confused Piplup Edition

    Spoiler:

    Interview:

FCG: Hello everyone! Fact Checking Gardevoir here! I am online with a fellow moderator of PokéCommunity, who takes care of PokéCommunity Daily, The Clubhouse and Pokémon Switch Games sections: Confused Piplup!

    CP: Hi!

FCG: So, Confused Piplup, how have you got into Pokémon?

CP: It all started when I was a child. I loved animals and I aspired to become a veterinarian.

One Christmas, when I was 7/8, my parents bought me a DS Lite with a game called Dolphin Island, which was about taking care of some animals in an aquatic zoo. It was quite a nice game!

My older cousin had a DS Lite as well and he was playing Pokémon Diamond. I was looking at him and I was really amazed by the game. He told me that we could have played together, if I had bought the game. So, not much time later, my parents gifted me Pokémon Diamond. I didn't really choose between the games, since my cousin told me to get the same version he owned, as he wasn't sure we could have played together otherwise. Ever since those first years in high school, I haven't stopped playing games in the Pokémon series.

FCG: A fitting job for a kind soul like yours! And a DS Lite? Such a nice gift! I will always remember the day my own family offered me a Pocket Gameboy with Pokémon Red in my younger years! Pity you did not acquire Pearl, but in uncertainty, better safe than sorry!

CP: After Pokémon X, I stopped playing and got back into the series in 2017 with Pokémon Ultra Moon. As I didn't have a Nintendo Switch for a few years, I mostly followed Pokémon without playing.

FCG: I can relate! While my interest for the games dropped quite a bit after Ruby, I never truly left and have been playing games, official and fan-made. There are a few pearls (pun intended!) among the fan-made projects!

CP: Other than that, I have always been into the franchise and most of its products. I wasn't fond of the card game or the anime, but I followed it anyways and I still kinda collected cards. As a child, I loved pretty much the fourth generation anime arc. I also liked the movies.

I have never had any interest in manga though. I have only read the part about the Diamond, Pearl and Platinum story some years ago, mainly out of curiosity. I was quite disappointed, to be honest.

FCG: We might have more in common than I thought! I have never had much interest in the card game and manga either. I enjoyed, and I still enjoy, watching the movies!

What are your highlights in experiencing Pokémon?

CP: They are quite a lot! Firstly, all the friends I could make thanks to it. As a child, I came to know many people that played Pokémon as well and I have always been seen as a true expert lol. I helped many people with the games and I had a lot of fun. If a kid had a DS, I would most likely become their friends lol. When I was a child, it was one of the best tools for socializing!

FCG: Hehe! The same thing happened to me sometimes! I once was asked for help by a parent, to help their child in catching Mewtwo without using the Master Ball in the first generation. I wrote the way to do so on a paper and gave it to them, and the parent later confirmed their child's success! It was such a craze, when the Blue and Red games arrived... they were everywhere!

    What did you do next?

CP: Growing up, the interest in the game changed, focusing more on the story rather than just playing with friends.
And that's the other point: the variety of the games! Playing Pokémon, I have fun in many different ways. The story, the Pokédex and the competitive part are all really enjoyable and they definitely make the games longer and more interesting.

Talking about experience, I have learnt a lot of things thanks to Pokémon. I used the computer a lot, so I learned how to search things on the web, I developed some basic strategic abilities, got into some statistics and I also think it boosted my creativity!

FCG: I am happy to hear it helped you learn a lot of things! This truly is one of Pokémon's main strength: accessible to casual gamers who want to have light fun, while also offering complexity for the competitive gamers who want the best teams. With all the Natures, EVs, IVs and such... I have to admit I am more into casual gaming, but to each their own, right?

    CP: Sure!

FCG: Now, how have you got in PokéCommunity and end up in its moderator team?

CP: Well, it was the time of the pandemic and I started using the computer and chat rooms a lot. I used to that even before, but for other reasons and I had both good and bad experiences. However, I used those tools mainly to know people.

At some point, quite randomly, I became extremely tired of the usual websites and I wondered if there was a place for people who enjoyed Pokémon just like me: it would have made things easier for me! Finding someone to finally share my biggest passion with sounded really good to me.

So, I found PokéCommunity. I wasn't used to forums at all, in fact I felt a bit lost at first. I knew what a forum was because I had often found precious answers there before, but I had never joined one.

When I got into PokéCommunity, I felt at home: I could finally discuss with someone about one of the things I enjoy the most. It was one of the best feelings ever! I think that what got me into mod team was being persistent with replies and showing particular interest in the game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Indeed, I was chosen as a mod for that section!

When I was asked to be a mod, it was pretty unexpected for me, but I happily accepted because I was really excited for the game and because it could have been a nice opportunity to talk to other people too.

FCG: Same! I have never truly been into forums either, before. PokéCommunity's forums are the first ones in which I realized I wanted to stay and in which I enjoyed being active. The offer to join the moderators was a surprise for me too! When I started, I was far from thinking I would become so involved!

CP: I am not a super social person, but very slowly I managed to make nice friendships.

After I became a mod, I was still a bit lost because I wasn't familiar with all the forum sections yet and I had been missing for a while before being asked to mod.

So, I started exploring the main sections and learned more things about PC and even made some other friends. I was quite active in the Trivia section and in the Forum Games one, other than the usual ones where I discussed about the games. I even started exploring other parts of the Forum as well: Challenges, Travel journals and even the hack ROM section. That's when I worked on Pokémon Lucian Diamond, which was basically Pokémon Diamond, but I had to play as Lucian. It was both a character challenge and a monotype challenge.

I also worked on the DS Rom to make it possible to use Lucian as the main sprite. It was nothing too crazy, but it was still pretty fun.

Then, I discovered Pokémon Daily and since they were looking for new members and since I used to write some articles for this quite big Italian website about Pokémon, I decided to apply. I think the Pokémon Daily team is awesome and I have always had fun and an incredible satisfaction every time I have written an article!

FCG: Again, I can relate! PC forums sure have a good number of nice - no, wonderful - users, and staff members, to befriend!

Same thing for the articles! Co-writing interviews with my new friends and sharing with them the excitement of seeing it published filled me with so much joy!

CP: I had to take a break because I felt the need to organize my days in a more efficient way. I started being less active in Trivia, but more active on Forum Games and the Clubhouse, which is a place on the forums that I have always loved. It's such a good idea to let people have a space where they can express and discuss about all the other passions they have. I feel like it's a great way to know each other even better!

I soon got involved in many clubs, because I have many interests. After a while, I advanced the idea of making an Animal Crossing fan club because I love the games and because I knew some people liked them as well. Despite the initial challenge of keeping the club active enough, it was still rewarded as "club of the season", which made me really happy!

Just recently, I was asked to become a mod of the Clubhouse and I decided to accept because it's one of my favorite sections in the entire forum and because the other mods are super lovely!

FCG: I am happy for you!

What is your situation in PC, now?

CP: Nowadays, I still try to do the same things: being active and exploring other sections!

I am currently trying to advance in some challenges I started this summer, I am keeping up the Animal Crossing fan club, I have some plans for other sections too and lastly, I am working on a new project called Pokémon Classical Platinum, which aims to change almost all the music in the original game with classical pieces. Just recently, version 0.1 was launched, containing new music for all the cities and towns. It's indeed the first big step for the project and it's real fun working on it!

I love PokéCommunity because it's a place where I can express myself and all the different interests I have. I like trying and experimenting most of the things the Forum has to offer.

FCG: Another thing I wanted to ask you is: What are your favourite games and Pokémon?

CP: This might not be a surprise to many people. I am a huge fan of the fourth generation games: Diamond/Pearl and Platinum.

The story, the lore, the gameplay, the characters, the designs, the music and obviously all the memories make those games the best ones for me.

Following those, there is indeed Pokémon Emerald. It has amazing music, incredibly good Pokémon designs, a very unique geography, a nice gameplay and so on. What I didn't quite like was the story, but that's another matter lol. I love a good amount of spin-offs as well, like Pokémon Colosseum, the Mystery Dungeon and the Ranger series.

About my favorite Pokémon, it's not a big secret to many people as well lol.
Without any doubt, Piplup and Empoleon are my favorite Pokémon and are at the number 1 spot together. That's because of my choice in Pokémon Diamond. I trained my Empoleon to level 100, which required a lot of time and so much effort! I share a lot of good memories with my Empoleon, so he definitely has a special place in my heart. I remember playing with a friend against his level 70 Torterra and, in the end, my Empoleon won against his Torterra by using Surf, which was the move I usually spammed. Since then, my friends recognized how strong me and my Empoleon were.

FCG: We both have fond memories of our friendly battles with friends. One which stands out for me is the moment I sent my Charizard against a friend's Blastoise, both Level 100. I went close to take it down by spamming Dig, but then, its Hydro Cannon hit my Pokémon... I stared with increasing fear as my Pokémon's HP kept decreasing... then, everyone who was watching this screamed in excitement when Charizard's HP stopped on one hit point! ONE!

    CP: Haha!
I even got a lot of ribbons with Empoleon, so yeah, he was also a star, lol. Other Pokémon I like are mainly Water type Pokémon! I love Lumineon for its colours, Milotic, Kingdra, Lapras. I have many more, to be honest. In general, I would say my favourite Pokémon are almost all from the third and the fourth generation. As for the Legendaries, I am predictable as usual, since I really love Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Arceus and Cresselia.

In addition to them, I also like Manaphy, Phione and Shaymin. Other Legendaries I love are definitely Rayquaza, Kyogre, Xerneas and Reshiram. Miraidon looks really cool and while I am still a bit mixed on it, I am pretty sure it will be one of my top five all time Legendary favorites!

FCG: I love Lapras, Milotic, Giratina, Rayquaza, Dialga and Cresselia, too! They have been part of my some of my teams, be it in official or in fan made games. I am certainly curious about what Scarlet/Violet games will bring us!

Your strong Empoleon reminds me of my Swampert in Ruby... So strong that it singlehandedly plowed through the whole game, League included! At the end, it was like one move, one KO! Hehe!

    CP: Lol!

FCG: Thank you, Confused Piplup, for your time!

CP: And thank you too, FCG!

FCG: And that's it for today, everyone! See you later, for our next interview! Stay tuned!

  • Good to see another one of these!

You can remove the initial space between colons everywhere (e.g. FCG : -> FCG:), and reminder game titles should be in italics. This includes examples in sentences, e.g.:
This truly is one of Pokémon's main strength : Accessible to casual gamers
CP : After Pokémon X, I stopped playing and got back into the series in 2017 with Pokémon Ultramoon.
    Ultra Moon (in italics).
to help their child in catching Mewtwo without using the Masterball in the first generation.
    Master Ball

  • Changes bolded and in Daily Orange.

FCG: Hello everyone! Fact Checking Gardevoir here, online with a fellow moderator of PokéCommunity, who takes care of PokéCommunity Daily, The Clubhouse and Pokémon Switch Games' sections : Confused Piplup!

The apostrophe after "Games" is not needed here. Also there does not need to be a space between "sections" and the colon. I would also consider avoiding the comma splice by maybe placing full stop after your intro, so something like:

Hello everyone, Fact Checking Gardevoir here! I am online with a fellow moderator...

CP: My older cousin had a DS Lite as well and he was playing Pokémon Diamond. I was looking at him and I was really amazed by the game. He told me that we could have played together, if I had bought the game. So, not much time later, my parents gifted me Pokémon Diamond. I didn't really choose between the games since my cousin told me to get the same version he owned, as he wasn't sure we could have played together otherwise. Since then, I haven't really stopped playing the games of the series at all, if not during my first years in high school.

I would firstly place a comma after "between the games" here. I would change the last sentence a little, as it just reads a bit off-kilter. Maybe something like:

Ever since those first years in high school, I haven't stopped playing games in the Pokémon series.

Just a bit more concise and doesn't have the confusing part at the end signifying the time.

FCG: A fitting job for a kind soul like yours! And a DS Lite ? Such a nice gift! I will always remember the day my own family offered me a Pocket Gameboy with Pokémon Red in my younger years! Pity you did not acquire Pearl, but in uncertainty, better safe than sorry!

Just remember once more to not have spaces after punctuation marks such as a ?

CP: After Pokémon X, I stopped playing and got back into the series in 2017 with Pokémon Ultra Moon. Since I haven't had a Nintendo Switch for years, I mostly followed Pokémon without playing.

Just be careful with tenses here and such, as this reads that you DID have a Switch and haven't anymore and that you were following Pokémon but maybe not now. I'd perhaps rewrite to something like:

As I didn't have a Nintendo Switch for a few years, I mostly followed Pokémon without playing.

FCG: I can relate! While my interest for the games dropped quite a bit after Ruby, I never truly left and has been playing games, official and fan made - there are a few pearls (pun intended!) among these!

Again just be careful with tenses and conjugation. Replace the "has been" with "have been" and I think the last part needs to be separated into two sentences and tidied up accordingly, something like:

...both official and fan-made. There are a few pearls (pun intended!) among the fan-made projects!

CP: Other than that, I have always been a lot into the franchise and most of its products. I wasn't fond of the card game or the anime, but I followed it anyways and I still kinda collected cards. As a child, I loved pretty much the fourth generation anime arch. I also liked the movies.

I have never had any interest in manga though. I have only read the part about the Diamond, Pearl and Platinum story some years ago, mainly out of curiosity. I was quite disappointed, to be honest.

I would just remove the "a lot" in the first sentence here. Also change "arch" to "arc".

FCG: We might have more common points than I thought! I have never had much interest in the card game and manga either. I enjoyed, and I still enjoy watching, the movies!

Next question : What are your highlights in experiencing Pokémon?

I would change "common points" to "in common" here, just as that's the phrase normally used in this context. I'm unsure on this sudden inclusion of actually writing out the next question prompt, as you haven't been doing that the whole time. I'd either change the article to include that for every question, or change this to be part of the conversation as you have with most of the others

FCG: I am happy to hear it helped you learn a lot of things! This truly is one of Pokémon's main strength : Accessible to casual gamers who want to have light fun, while also offering complexity for the competitive gamers who want the best teams, with all the Natures, EV, IV, ... I have to admit I am more into casual gaming, but to each player their own fun, right?

Make sure to remove that space next to the colon and therefore change "Accessible" to "accessible". We've got another run-on sentence here, so we need to break it up a little. Something like:

...while also offering complexity for the competitive gamers who want the best teams. With all the Natures, EVs, IVs and such...I have to admit I am more into casual gaming, but to each their own, right?

CP: I had to take a break because I felt the need to organize my days in a more efficient way. I started being less active on Trivia, but more active on Forum Games and the Clubhouse, which is a place on the forums that I have always loved.

Just make sure when you are talking about the sections you are less active in, to change those "on" to "in". I'd also definitely link the fan club here!!!

I love PokéCommunity because it's a place where I can express myself and all the different interests I have. I like trying and experimenting most of the things the Forum has to offer.

    Again, link that project!!!

CP: This might not be a surprise to many people. I am a huge fan of the fourth generation games: both Diamond / Pearl and Platinum.

What didn't get me about the game is the story, but that's another matter lol.

I would probaly just remove the specification of "both" games, when you have in fact listed three games. "What didn't get me about the game is the story" needs to be tweaked a little, I'd probably change to What I didn't quite like was the story.

Then, everyone who was watching this screamed in excitement when Charizard's HP stopped on one HP! ONE!

Just remove the capital from "Then" here. I'd also change the one HP to 1HP or expand the HP to hit point.

FCG: I love Lapras, Milotic, Giratina, Rayquaza, Dialga and Cresselia, too! They have been part of my some of my teams, be it in official or in fan made games. I am certainly curious about what Scarlet / Violet games will bring us!

Your strong Empoleon reminds me of my Swampert in Ruby... So strong that it singlehandedly plowed through the whole game, League included! At the end, it was like one move, one KO! Hehe!

Just remove the spaces around the / here (Scarlet/Violet).

FCG: ... And that's it for today, everyone! See you later, for our next interview! Stay tuned!

Just remove the space from the ... and therefore change "And" to "and".

Also a reminder to italicise all game titles!

  • And here is the next interview (no worries, I would not post it before next tuesday. No rush! ^^).
An interview with a certain Amethyst.

    Spoiler:

    --

FCG: Hello everyone! Fact Checking Gardevoir here, online with... none other than Amethyst, creator of Pokémon Reborn!

    Amethyst: Hello!

FCG: So, Amethyst, can you introduce yourself?

Amethyst: My name is Amethyst. I started working on Pokémon Reborn on a complete whim in 2012, expecting to get bored and drop it, but in the end, I didn't! We finally finished it last year and I'm very proud of the game and the community around it.

FCG: You sure can be! This game certainly is among the very best. I cannot imagine how much time and efforts you and your team devoted in making this wonderful game and developing its story, its characters, its AI and its puzzles!
How about your beginning? When have you discovered Pokémon?

Amethyst: I first learned about Pokémon back in 1998 when it was released stateside, but actually, I was a hipster six years old and hated the games entirely because the franchise was too popular, so I thought it was stupid and bad. Then, the next summer, my friend came over and let me play his Blue version and catch a Pikachu, and I decided that, maybe, this game pretty good, so I demanded my dad to go out and get it for me that same night.

FCG: Hehe! We could say your opinion on Pokémon made a U-turn! I also remember the day I got my own game. A memory which will never fade!

So! When did you get into Pokémon's fandom and fan content?

Amethyst: I think I hunted around PokéCommunity for ROM hacks when I was 11 or so. I was on some online forums back then - I think it was around 2003 - and I had already played Ruby to death. I needed more! I remember playing Quartz, Brown, and a Naranja hack, but I didn't get involved with the community at the time.

When Diamond and Pearl's Wi-Fi feature came out a few years later, I made my own forum to gahter all of my friends who played Pokémon from across Internet. It was only about 12-15 of us at first, but that was how Reborn's present community started!

FCG: I am glad to hear you had so much fun and shared it with your friends! Indeed, sometimes the best things start small before growing big!

How did the idea for Reborn take shape?

Amethyst: I made the online league as a challenge for a former friend. We played Emerald together a lot and we thought it would have been fun if the gym leaders had human-like AI. He never played the league, so I made it available to some other friends, and it grew from there.

FCG: So, it started with the enhanced AI and top level battles! Saying I had a hard time vanquishing Reborn's trainers, gym leaders, ... would be quite an understatement!

Amethyst: Eventually people wondered what our online Reborn league would look like as a region, and, at the same time, someone in the community was drawing a comic based on the league in a post-apocalyptic setting.

So I drew an elaborate map to determine what it would have looked like as a region. The map is included with game downloads today! When I finished this map, I really had no intention to go make a game based off of it, but then someone else in our community wanted to. They said they were going to use RMXP to make the game, and I grew up on RPG Maker forums, so I was suddenly very interested. I took over the project, and released the first episode in two weeks.

FCG: A very interesting region! I really enjoyed exploring every corner of its desert, its forest, its HUGE city, ... So many places to see!

What was your part in the game's creation?

Amethyst: As a lead developer and project manager, I pride myself in being able to adequately perform any role necessary, including writing, spriting, art, music, mapping, programming and animation. The game was a solo project up until Episode 13 (fighting Charlotte). After that, I began to open up to the idea of allowing others to help. I should've done so a lot sooner... oops. By the end of post-game I mainly did mapping, dialogue, and coding events with the team working very hard to fill in around me.

FCG: I have no doubt you did a great job! But making such game does require a lot of work and time, and getting more people to contribute certainly paid off, making an already great game to an awesome one!

Which brings us to the next question: Who joined you to develop the game until its completion with Episode 19?

Amethyst: We've had a handful of folks come and go over the years, all of whom are credited as wished in the Readme file.
But to give a brief rundown of our team at the Episode 19's release, it was:

    - Myself
    - cass and Marcell: programming, writing
    - toothpastefairy: programming
    - Azzie: writing
    - smeargletail: sprites, animations
    - VulpesDraconis and Autumn: animations
    - And crimson: mapping, eventing, spriting, ...

FCG: I have recently stumbled into the video of an animated teaser called Reborn: Monarch. Is it true that an animated series on Reborn's story is on the way?

Amethyst: So I hear. I am not at all involved with that project, so I'm not the person to ask about its status. I think it would be amazing if they could finish it, but animation is very time-consuming, pain-staking, and Reborn is a very long game. I greatly appreciate the passion of the folks who want to go out and animate it all, which is really incredible, but I would also worry about their well-being, if they were to see it through! 😅

FCG: Then, let's wish them the best of luck to bring it to completion! I will certainly be there to watch the result with great excitement!

... I also personally wanted to thank you, Amethyst, as well as the rest of the team who worked on the project, and a certain user of Reborn's forums, for making this wonderful game, but also for creating a character which became my number one favourite in all fan games: Gossip Gardevoir! Her scenes, her personality, her lady-like behaviour and her interview intermissions are what inspired me to join PokéCommunity forums and become an active member of this wonderful community!

And that's it for today, everyone! See you later, for our next interview! Stay tuned!

  • Hi! Here's some things I'd change:

FCG: Hello everyone! Fact Checking Gardevoir here, online with... none other than Amethyst, creator of Pokémon Reborn!

Don't forget to use Italics for the word "Pokémon" too!

Amethyst: My name is Amethyst. I started working on Reborn on a complete whim in 2012, expecting to get bored and drop it, and didn't! We finally finished it last year and I'm very proud of the game and community around it.

This is just a suggestion, but I'd add "Pokèmon" to Reborn, just to clarify
. And maybe even link the project! Then, I would also change "and didn't!" to "but, in the end, I didn't!" because I feel like it's an opposing clause more than a connective one. Lastly, add the article "the" before "community".

FCG: You sure can be! This game certainly is among the very best. I cannot imagine how much time and efforts you and your team devoted in making this wonderful game and developping its story, its characters, its AI, its puzzles!

This one is really just a suggestion and something up to you: "cannot" to "can't" as it might feel too formal. Also, saying "I can't even imagine..." would work too. "Developing". I'd change the last comma and add an "and" before "puzzles".

Amethyst: I first learned about Pokémon back in 1998 when they came stateside, but actually I was a hipster six year and and hated them entirely because the franchise was too popular so I thought it was stupid and bad. Then, the next summer, my friend came over and actually let me play his Blue version and catch a Pikachu, and I decided, actually maybe this game is pretty good, so I demanded my dad go out and get it for me that night.

"They came stateside" to "it was released stateside", as the subject is singular and I feel that the verb "to be released" fits more here. "Hipster six year old", I guess. Also: "hated them" to "hated the games". Drop the "actually" before "let me play".
Some changes in the last sentence: "... Pikachu, and I realized that maybe...", "my dad to go out", I'd change to "that same night", to highlight the meaning of the sentence.

FCG: Hehe! We could say your opinion on Pokémon made a U-turn! I also remember the day I got my own game. A memory who will never fade!

I'd use Italics on "U-turn" to empathize the joke. (very funny btw lol). Also "which" instead of "who", because it's a thing and not a person.

Amethyst: I think I hunted around PokéCommunity for ROM hacks as early as 11 or 12 or so. I was on online forums then, it would've been around 2003, I think, and I had already played Ruby to death. I needed more! I remember playing Quartz, Brown, and a Naranja hack, but I didn't get involved with the community at the time.

When Diamond and Pearl's wifi feature came out a few years later, I made my own forum to collect all of my friends who played Pokémon from across Internet. It was only about 12-15 of us at first, but that was how Reborn's present community started!

I'd rewrite it like this: "... ROM hacks when I was 11 or so. I was on some online forums back then - I think it was around 2003 - and I had already..."
Change to "Wi-Fi". I would also say "gather my friends" rather than "collect all of my friends"

Amethyst: I made the online league as a challenge for a former friend. We played Emerald together a lot and thought it would be fun if the gym leaders could have human-like AI. He never played the league, so I made it available to some other friends, and it grew from there.

FCG: So, it started with the enhanced AI and top level battles! To say I had a hard time vanquishing Reborn's trainers, gym leaders, ... would be quite an understatement!

"... and we thought...", also I'd change the tense of the sentence: "it would have been fun if the gym leaders had a human-like AI". Also, "Saying" instead of "to say".

Amethyst: Eventually people wondered what our online Reborn league would look like as a region, and someone in the community was drawing a comic based on the league in a post-apocalyptic setting.

So I drew an elaborate map to determine what it looked like. The map is included with game downloads today! When I finished the map, I really had no intention to go make a game based off of it, but then someone else in our community wanted to. They said they were going to use RMXP to make the game, and I grew up on RPG Maker forums, so I was suddenly very interested, took over the project, and released the first episode in two weeks.

FCG: A very interesting region! I really enjoyed exploring every corner of its desert, its forest, its HUGE city, ... So many places to see!

From there, what was your part in the game's creation?

"...would have looked like as a region". Then, I seem to understand that at the same time someone was drawing a comic. If that's the case, then I'd change to "...region, and, at the same time, someone...".
"This map" sounds better. " I took over the project..."
Remove the comma and add "and" before "huge city".
I would also get rid of the expression "from there" and directly start from the question.

I should've done so a lot sooner... oops. By the end of postgame I mainly did mapping, dialogue, and eventing with the team working very hard to fill in around me.

I think "post-game" is more correct. What do they mean by "eventing"?

FCG: I have no doubt you did a great job! But making such game does require a lot of work and time, and getting more people to contribute certainly paid off, turning an already great game an awesome one!

I'd remove the "but" before "making" and "great game to an awesome one"

Amethyst: We've had a handful of folks come and go over the years, all of whom are credited as wished in the Readme file.
But to give a brief rundown of our team at the Episode 19's release, it was:

    - Myself,
    - cass and Marcell: programming, writing,
    - toothpastefairy: programming,
    - Azzie: writing,
    - smeargletail: sprites, animations,
    - VulpesDraconis and Autumn: animations,
    - And crimson: mapping, eventing, spriting, ...

I would use Italics on "Readme". Also, in the list I'd remove the final commas, as you're already making a list.

FCG: I have recently stumbled into the video of an animated teaser called Reborn: Monarch. Is it true that an animated series on Reborn's story is on the way?

Amethyst: So I hear. I am not at all involved with that project, so I'm not the person to ask about its status. I think it would be amazing if it were able to be finished, but animation is very time-consuming and pain-staking, and Reborn is a very long game. I greatly appreciate the passion of the folks who want to go out and animate it all, that's really incredible - but i would also worry about their wellbeing if they were to see it through! 😅

I would make the sentence a little easier: "... would be amazing if they could finish it...". I would also remove "and" before "pain-staking".
I would make the last sentence like this: "... which is really incredible, but I would also worry about their well-being, if they were..."

... I also personally wanted to thank you, Amethyst, as well as all of Reborn's team, and a certain user of Reborn's forums! For making this wonderful game, but also for creating a character which became my number one favourite in all fan games: Gossip Gardevoir! Her scenes, her personality, her lady-like behaviour, her interview intermissions are what inspired me to join PokéCommunity forums and become an active member of this wonderful community!

The first sentence sounds pretty repetitive. I'd rewrite it in this way: "...Amethyst, as well as the rest of the team who worked on the project, and a certain user of Reborn's forums for making this ..."
Remove the comma and add "and" before "her interview intermissions".

  • Hello!
I am submitting a new interview, of a member of Insurgence's developers team!

    Here is the header image:
    Spoiler:

    And here is the interview!

FCG: Hello everyone! Fact Checking Gardevoir here, online with MrSinger186, lead musician of the developers' team of Pokémon Insurgence!

    MS: Hello!

    FCG: Can you introduce yourself?

MS: I am MrSinger186, and I am the lead music director for Insurgence. I was brought onto the team right at the end of Zeta-Omicron's lifespan ("prequels" to Insurgence) in 2012-2013 and I got right to work making music.

FCG: So! I would like to ask about how it started. When did you get into Pokémon's fandom and fan content?

MS: I've been playing Pokémon since 2001 when I got to borrow my dad's Game Boy Color and Pokémon Crystal. I've been hooked ever since, and I started exploring fan made content in probably 2010-2011 with some of the old classics like Pokémon Quartz, Brown, and Naranja. Zeta-Omicron was my first real foray into fan games as opposed to ROM Hacks, and I was so utterly impressed with what RPG Maker could do to elevate the franchise that I love so much.

FCG: It is funny, I first played Pokémon when Red and Blue arrived. It was the craze back then! But I only discovered the fans' side of it a few years ago, starting with Insurgence. One of my best fan games experiences so far!

Now, how did you become the musician for this great game?

MS: I alluded to it above, but it was really a case of being in the right place at the right time. I submitted a track to the Zeta-Omicron's Subreddit and Suze, the first lead developer, just happened to see it. The team really liked it, and wanted me to start making music for them for their new game, which turned into Insurgence.

FCG: And it is a good thing that they did! I played Omicron too, a great game as well! What is this track you made?

MS: I made the Jirachi/Mew battle theme, it was only added in right at the end of the lifespan of active development, so, not many people heard it in-game. But it's available along with all of the other Insurgence tracks on my bandcamp.

FCG: Neat! I am especially fond of the theme at the end of the game, when we get to the Oort's Cloud. Coupled to that feeling of having reached the end of a great adventure... A moment I will never forget!

Can you introduce the other developers you worked with to make this wonderful fan game?

MS: I don't remember everyone's role but I worked closely with Suze, Deukhoofd, EchoTheThird and ZeroBreaker. I know there were some others, but for the life of me, I cannot remember who else. It's been way too long since active development, lol.

FCG: Suze was the first lead developer, but what were Deukhoofd, EchoTheThird and ZeroBreaker's roles in developing Insurgence?

MS: Deuk was the lead programmer if I recall correctly. EchoTheThird was the lead artist, and ZeroBreaker one of the artists.

FCG: Do you have some favourites in the tracks you composed, that you are especially proud of?

MS: It has to be Hell's Fury, which is the boss track for the Infernal Cult.

It was a track where I was able to figure out how to connect a live guitar to my machine and use it as a MIDI instrument, so the guitar track you hear is me actually shredding. It seems to be one of the most loved tracks from the community, so I'm glad that it translated so well!

FCG: So am I! It gives the track its own signature, I would say! Regarding Insurgence's other features, do you have a favourite Delta Pokémon?

MS: Delta Charizard is the fan favorite for a reason - it looks incredible. But outside of that one, I'm a big fan of Delta Aggron, Serperior, and Metagross.

FCG: Same! I called mine Shadowyrm! I also love that, when Mega-evolving, it gets the Noctem Ability, allowing it to use the Phantom Force, Lunar Cannon and Shadow Force moves every turn... A true wrecking ball! I love the others too. They look so cool!

Oh! I have seen there is a new project, Epsilon, in the works! Are you part of it?

MS: Unfortunately, I am not. I had to bow out of active development for awhile, around 2016-2017, due to my university courses ramping up and losing time to give music the care and love it deserved. I could feel myself making less and less stuff that I really felt good about, so for the sake of the game, I had to step back. But we left music in the care of – at least, last I checked – Pulvite, who is so much better of a producer than I could ever dream to be.

FCG: It is a shame... But don't sell yourself short, your music themes in Insurgence are amazing!

MS: Thank you! I'm hoping that I can get back into music. I've found that being in the real world has lowered my free time. I've moved onto some other endeavors, but I still make music every now and again.

FCG: I wish you the best of luck to have more free time, soon, to get back in making music for fan games and other things you love!

And that's it for today, everyone! See you later, for our next interview! Stay tuned! And if you're interested in taking part in an interview – or being the interviewer – let us know in the comments!

  • Looks good overall!

Cover image - I wonder if it might be better with just the top part without the text? Thinking of the thumbnail, and also the FCG text is left aligned which throws me off a bit...

Text: Reminder usernames should be in italics.

Regarding Insurgence's other features, do you have a favourite Delta Pokémon ?
Remove the space before the ?

Good there's a link to his bandcamp at the end. However, I think it would be neat if we could link an example of a song or two during the interview as well. Are any on Youtube? If not, then if there are specific links to the bandcamp I could try to see if one can embed those... at worst, a direct link to specific tracks when mentioned (e.g. Hell's Fury).

  • That looks wonderful! Tbh I only read the one with Fairy and MrSinger186, but that's because I was skipping through all the chat. It would kinda be nice to have a thread with only those 😅. Anyway, I really love it! I do, however, have a question: How do you pick who you're interviewing, and how do you interview them? Ok, that's kinda two questions…

I am very happy to hear you really enjoyed the read! ^^
In case you haven't seen my other post on the Meet and Greet section yet, you can find the interviews listed on the PC Daily's page (link at the top), then on the right just below the image header!
I have not grouped them on the forums because I thought best to put them in the sections they each belonged (arts, fan games, etc...).
As for your questions : I pick those I am interviewing depending on my interests at the moment, but everyone can also ask me for an interview. I am not picky! We then co-write a text based interview (with other things added depending on what they made), then update and shape it, back and forth until we are both pleased with the result!

I have started fixing, and waiting for the replies to the question about embed tracks. But what do you mean by just the top part without the text ? The map image without "Pokémon Insurgence" on top of it ? Or just the top part without the black rectangle below ?
