The Exalted Ones
GMed by Vintage ArachnidIC THREAD | RATED M | SIGN UPS ARE OPEN
THE OVERVIEW:

In the year 874 After Evolution (AE) the world entered into a time of war for the first time in almost a hundred years. For years, Onzor had unsuccessfully tried to unite the world under one rule - their rule. Each time Kalbion declined tension rose, and those who governed Onzor felt insulted by the constant unwillingness of Kalbion to make the world a better place. When words failed to move Kalbion, Onzor launched a full-scale barrage onto the lands of Kalbion, decimating cities as well as sending in troops to clear out anyone they had missed. Women, men, and children of Kalbion were all considered enemies of Onzor and were eliminated without hesitation.
The surprise attack had caught Kalbion off guard and they scrambled to retaliate. By the time they were able Onzor had obliterated a majority of the cities that produced their weapons, technology, and soldiers. Soon Kalbion fought back, regained their lands, and drove Onzor's forces out. War has raged on for ten years, blows and bombs being exchanged between the two. Throughout the entire war, Kalbion has not fared well. They are in desperate need of something to turn the tides in their favor, as they have exhausted all other options. Except one: Magic.
Now a lost craft, magic was once thought of as a blessing and a high honor to have in the Before Evolution (BE) era. Many called those that had the ability the Exalted Ones. No one is quite certain how magic came to be, some speculate that deities gifted mankind this endowment, others say that it is what made the world. Gaon flourished with magic for quite some time. The world was at peace, people were happy, and life was enjoyable. Until the year 1054 BE, when something happened to those with magic. The Exalted Ones began dying off, the reasoning behind their deaths was unknown. Like a plague it swept across the planet, and thousands upon thousands perished.
That ushered the world into the After Evolution (AE) era. Pushed forward by those without magic, who had begun taking more powerful positions in society while the Exalted Ones were busy aiding their dying kin. Technology was shoved to the forefront; it was easier and faster to learn while magic took concentration and practice. The usage of magic had become a danger to society and, most importantly, the world. That led to its inevitable outlaw, first in the lands of Onzor and then eventually Kalbion. Exalted Ones, healthy or not, rose up to fight against those who made the decision, which resulted in a civil war.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) war only proved technology was far superior and thus magic had officially become outdated. Stricter laws were enacted causing a time period where mere accusations that someone had magic was enough to criminalize them. Time had not been friendly to the Exalted Ones, and their presence diminished more and more each year. Those few that remained constantly lived in fear, scared to use their magic and scared for their life. A cure for the plague was never discovered and thus it still affected them. Eventually, they had all died out, and magic was as good as extinct.

YOUR PARTICIPATION:
It is the year 884, war rages on and neither side is willing to cease-fire. One scientist, Dr. Ethan Sieben, has spent a remarkable amount of time and resources to prove that magic will help Kalbion win this war once and for all. His research has all been done in secret afforded to him by his rank and reputation. Having run enough trials, he is ready to take his results to those heading the war. However with the subject of magic being taboo and a stain on the histories of both Kalbion and Onzor, he has chosen to travel down a different path. It is one that will guarantee him success in his future aspirations. War has a way of creating talented individuals, ones that can do their job and do it well, and Dr. Sieben seeks them.
You are a highly ranked individual in the Kalbionan Army, whether that be as a soldier, medic, scientist, engineer, scout, or spy. You have braved the war and dedicated your life to stopping the efforts of the enemy, making you a perfect subject for a demonstration to show how truly capable magic is. Kalbion needs you and so you have been summoned to the capital city, Summer Grove, where you are to attend a meeting to discuss the war further, unknown to the dangers that hide in plain sight.

MAGIC:

Nothing good will ever come from talking aloud about magic. Most will confront the subject will the same animosity that they were taught it with. It has been so long since magic has been seen publicly that some wonder if it ever truly existed. For the most part, text that describe magic and all its practices have been destroyed and are forbidden to be given to the public.
According to these found text all magic is energy based. It has to be summoned from within through concentration and thought and will give off a certain color when used. Magic is said to take on different properties and attributes. There are mentions of six classes of magic and within each class there are mentions of three different subclasses (either Attack, Defense, Health, Special Attack, Speed, or Status). Once a user goes down a certain path (a subclass) it is permanent. The names and descriptions of each class and subclass have been translated into modern words below:

Kalbion:
Spoiler:
Flag: A metal shield on a checkered white and sky blue background.
Colors: White and Sky Blue
Motto: "Resilient against all odds."
Language(s): Kalbionan
Demonym: Kalbionan
Current Leaders: President Norman Graye
Government: Kalbion has never strayed from its path as a democracy. A single person, their President, who has and always will be elected by its people, leads the lands of Kalbion. However, in times of war the President becomes more of a figurehead that the citizens can look to for answers and direction. Military makes all the necessary executive decisions regarding the war, but the public believes its the President doing right by the nation.
Culture: When it comes to Kalbion, most like to call it homogenous in nature that is not always the case. In Kalbion there are only city borders; it isn't split into different territories that a specific set of people have domain over like a state or a zone, all of that is said to divide the country. Everyone who lives in Kalbion is to be considered of equal standing; money doesn't buy much when people are much more invested in honesty, fairness, and integrity. While Kalbionans aren't as influential to Onzor now, they once were. Kalbionans participated and/or helped with agriculture, machinery, weaponry, and other goods, and their influence grew so great that Kalbionan is the second-most spoken language in Onzor. Kalbion have become second best in the ways of technology and science. Religion was not banned alongside magic in Kalbion and so plenty of its citizens still practice one religion or another, though all religions containing the mention of deities thought to be born from magic were forsaken. The one thing that is forbidden above all else, is magic. If talked about, it is in disdain or even abhorrence, and the topic is changed without a second thought.

Cities/Geography:
Capital City:
Summer Grove - The biggest and most populated city in the entire country, and by far the most technologically advanced - evident by the amount of skyscrapers, power grids, transportation systems, and lights there are. It is known by most as "The Dome" due to the force field that covers the entire city, which protects it from any threats as well as detecting them before they get too close. The President and the highest military officials all meet and live in this city.
Cities of Importance:
High Land - An easternmost city that hasn't fared well in comparison to the other cities. War destroyed essentially everything there was, and unfortunately it was a lot. It had always been one of Kalbion's richest cities and a nice enough place to escape to. High Land was the first of many cities that Onzor forces decimated and having had little chance to rebuild it High Land has remained in its delicate, pitiful state, mostly used as an example to show what Onzorians are capable of doing.
Pixley - To the west lays this city, which is located right on the coastline. It is a bustling port city, ships and submarines used in the war are launched from its coastline. A grand majority of the navy live, train, and are relocated here to engage the enemy.
Aluma - A full-on military city way up north that is strategically important to Kalbion's war efforts. It's the biggest producing and houser of all the major technology and/or machinery that is used in the war. This is where the largest location of soldiers for the army is stationed. It has barely been touched by the enemy's attack due to its incredible defenses, making it a formidable stronghold.
Cities of Lesser Importance: Rowan, Hendrum, Penbrook, Seguin, Mystic, Capistrano, Labish Village, Pocono Pines, Oville, Satanta, Terrace, Clearfield, Clements, Honey Brook, Fort Pache, Lebec, Homewood Canyon, Cromberg, Pinowne, New Concord, West Sullivan, Prairie Home, Grand Saline, and Carroll.

Onzor:
Spoiler:
Flag: Six golden lines coming together to form a golden "O" on a steel gray background.
Colors: Steel Gray and Gold
Motto: "Unity brings Strength."
Language(s): Onzorian and Kalbionan
Demonym: Onzorian
Current Leaders: Council Member Eddea Augustine, Council Member Yoruba Abeni, Council Member Ilyas Ruwa, Council Member Eli Kobbf, Council Member Iono Decha, and Council Member Abbott Baltheer.
Government: Onzor's government developed into an oligarchy as the world entered the After Evolution era and has remained that way ever since. Its ruled by The Council of Six. One council member rules over one of the six zones that Onzor is split into. The Council is all equally powerful, they each have control over the military in their respective zone, and must have a ⅔ majority vote to make laws and go to war. The Council of Six convene in the capital, Hellin, every six months, but will and can more frequently in times of war.
Culture: A variety of practices and culture find itself within Onzor's territory, which is divided into six different zones. Having each zone under a different rule has given birth to a wide range of living. Technology and science are the top priority among the people of Onzor. It is the closest thing to religion they have, as religion scarcely exists in the lands of Onzor, having been long since abandoned, like magic. This has caused their society to have technological advancements that Kalbion have not even begun to think about. Its inhabitants are proud citizens of Onzor and respect those in power, however, they are rarely tolerable of those that live in other zones. Hostility naturally erupts when multiple members from each zone are near one another and as a result most travel to and from zones have been prohibited. Though, Onzorians are loyal to their nation above all else and seek unity, and if one thing can bond Onzorians its their extreme hatred of magic. All zones are very strict with their laws, most carry out severe crimes with the penalty of death. Most, if not all, zones are militant and conservative in nature, not willing to change their ways. Due to Kalbion's former influence, before Onzor cut ties with them, most of their people speak Kalbionan fluently while the reverse is rarely true.

Zone 2 - Nicknamed "The Hot Spot" because there's always something war-related going on within, to outsiders its mistakenly thought it received the nickname because of its high temperatures and climates. Council Member Yoruba Abeni rules it and its capital city is Pargia.
Zone 3 - Nicknamed "Power Palace" as a better part of those that reside in this zone are people of noble and powerful status. A place where spouses, significant others, families, and children wait for their loved one to come back from the war. Council Member Ilyas Ruwa rules it and its capital city is Elmas.
Zone 4. - Nicknamed "The Pit" because of its tough terrain, tough people, and once you're in, it's hard to get out. Only those of strong-will can survive to live in The Pit. Council Member Eli Kobbf rules it and its capital city is Brull.
Zone 5. - Nicknamed "The Kingdom" not only because of its durability, but because of the manner each Council Member has ruled it, an iron thumb. War has never touched its land, as its defenses are second to none. Council Member Iono Decha rules it and its capital city is Monterosi.
Zone 6. - Nicknamed "Dominion" a name forged in irony, as this is the zone that is known for its lack of control and respect toward authority. Those who live in Dominion tend not to wander around during the night, as crime as increased over the years despite the death penalty being forcibly insisted upon. Council Member Abbott Baltheer rules it and its capital is Kaifa.
