NaNoWriMo 2021

It's that time again. That's right, National Novel Writing Month is upon us!

For those that are hearing about NaNoWriMo the first time, it's a month long event where you write 50K words during that time. There's are two other spinoffs of that event in April and July.

This thread is for discussions of all things NaNoWriMo. You can talk about which projects you're working on, motivational trips, or just cheer each other along! 50K words too daunting? That's okay, you can actually set your own writing goal in the website (the disclaimer is you probably won't get the usual NaNo rewards on the site unless you aim for the 50K). I'll also be doing weekly check-ins to see how you guys are doing.

Also! The Writing Lounge mods are discussing a possible NaNoWriMo badge for those participating/met their goals, so stay tuned for that!

I've always wanted to try and write a Pokémon fic but I'm not sure where to even start without it sounding like the basic Pokémon Trainer kind of thing. It feels like anything I think of is just so over done and played out.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a basic trainer story, but you could always try focusing in on an element of the games or a type of character in them that doesn't get a lot of attention usually.

I don't think I'll ever do NaNoWriMo because I'm scared of getting recognized/getting recognition and being well known if in the very, very, very 0.00000000000000000000001% I did submit something and were to win. I've thought about it, though, but I just don't think I could handle any sort of fame, of any kind, and that includes entering a contest and possibly being shouted out.

I won't be doing NaNoWriMo because I just finished writing a book in a short amount of time, and I'm now in the editing process. I have no desire to do something that intense again so soon.

Here's a word of advice for anyone who is feeling crazy enough to go for it though: plan. It is so much easier to write quickly and efficiently when you're following a framework.

I've never participated in NaNo, though I have always wanted to. With how busy my life is atm, this won't be the year, either, but I can pretend it is and continue trying to up my daily word count.
