#17 Member Encyclopedia

i dont understand why it was closed to the public
getting to know only those with supporter access defeats the point of why it was made in the first place

it won't have much activity either way but it should be made public
if you're worried about those with little or no posts making threads then a 1000 post minimum perhaps

My thread has received absolutely no posts, so I'm not particularly attached to the section in any way.

I do think it could be well-served by being organized alphabetically by username and getting a custom interface of some sort to make your thread look like a polished wiki-style profile/biography/FAQ page. In addition, I believe it should be viewable by any active (has posted in last two months) member that has either a supporter status, 3000 posts, or over two years of membership.

If I recall shortly before I decided to take a DLOA, HQ had decided to lower the threshold of the VIP Member Encyclopedia access to around 300 posts, much more manageable than the requirements now. It's just a matter of the when it's going to be implicated.

An active staff member can confirm this, but I'm pretty sure my information is accurate.

Did this come into effect?

Although I know that I'm double posting/reviving/etc, I don't really care. Given that the forum is now deader than it's ever been before, what do you guys think needs to happen to fix it? Or is it simply a fruitless endeavour?

I'll check with HQ and get an answer as soon as possible.

As for the latter, it needs to have people take initiative to produce production here. Not just once in awhile, but every single day, and not just by one person but by a group of people. Consistency is key as it will gradually become more active with hard work. However, I feel that this should be done by the community and not done by mods specifically, mainly because 1.) Id rather not add more fuel to the fire for the stupid "staff centric" mentality and 2.) because it should be your - as in supporters - special place to chat and whatnot. Granted I think us staff would like to be part of the fun once and awhile but it should be something that supporters create for themselves, not staff.

I meant to respond to this a day or two ago, but the minimum requirement to view the Member Encyclopedia is 200 posts. That's what HQ told me.

Maybe that should be changed to up the posting initiative? More like they can view it but they can't post in it unless they have like 100 posts in it or something? Or they can't make a thread unless they have the 25 posts needed in that section plus the 200 from elsewhere.
Just a suggestion *Shrug*

I think it couldn't hurt to let people view it at 100 posts, instead of 200.

Being able to access that section earlier might convince some of the newer members to stay longer, you'll never know.

We actually just recently changed it to the current conditions, so there isn't really that much data to see if this is successful just yet. Having 200 posts and then making 25 posts in the ME isn't really that unreasonable though. Its not that hard to rack up 200 posts. If anything, it just needs to be more publicaly known that people who have 200 posts can access the area.

OH, I was assuming it had been like that for a while and change was needed -w-;
Mah bad.
