7-Star Emboar Tera Raid Solo Strategies

Announced a 7-star Tera Raid featuring a Tera: Electric Emboar. Begins at 0:00 UTC on June 14th.

Begins with its hidden ability: Reckless. Increases the power of moves with recoil damage by 20%. Expects them to have built around this. Leads you towards a moveset of Flare Blitz, Head Smash, Take Down/Double-Edge, and Wild Charge.

Leaves it open to Ground types, however. What could give them trouble? Has a pretty respectable Special stat (base 100). Possibly a Sunny Day + Solarbeam combo. Also knows Grass Knot, Trailblaze, and Scald, of all things. Drops the Normal move for one of these, most likely. Could also have something like Brick Break or Focus Blast too, given its Fighting type.

Probably avoids something like Bulk Up among its normal moves. Hits pretty hard with these moves and Reckless from the outset. May toss in a Bulk Up or even a Tail Whip at some point.

Appears to be a good chance for Kommo-o or Koraidon to shine. Resists Fire, Electric, Rock, Grass, and Water. May be able to get it done with Garchomp/Flygon too.

Do you have any strategies or Pokemon you plan to try?

Imagining Scald only shows up to cover for Rain Dance weather to lower its Flare Blitz damage. Thinking Close Combat for a Fighting move and multiple resets of its stats. Thinking Flare Blitz and Wild Charge will be the recoil moves of choice. Head Smash would be cool, but I don't think they will lean into the recoil moves that much.

Looked at Volt Absorb Pokémon and none of them had decent Defense to work with. Currently thinking about Rhyperior. It wouldn't care about Electric or Fire attacks naturally, and with high Defenses and Iron Defense move could do well setting up against Fighting-type moves except for a possible Focus Blast. Not a fan of using legendaries for these raids, but Gouging Fire seems really strong. Guaranteed burns, even through shields, using Burning Bulwark and Breaking Swipe for defense.

Released the raid.

Emboar (Tera: Electric)
Nature: Brave
Ability: Reckless
Moves: Flare Blitz, Drain Punch, Wild Charge, and Head Smash
Out-of-turn moves: Heat Crash, Bulk Up x2. (Used the Bulk-Ups pretty much back-to-back around when the shield broke.)
Buff clears: 1 (about three turns in)
Debuff clears: 2 (one maybe five turns in, one maybe around half health?)

Beat it with Garchomp on the second try (not counting resets). Brought Emboar down to red health with half the time left on the first attempt and still lost. Blasted Garchomp with a +2 Flare Blitz, which it could not take (barely?). Fired off two attacks too, which were tough to survive. Could not risk a Swords Dance. Ran out of Earthquakes at the end.

Could have won with a critical on any of the last three attacks. Also could have won then if Weavile used Leer once after the shield broke. Admittedly had the misfortune to blindly stack 3 Swords Dances, only to have them immediately cleared while trying to hit Earthquake.

Definitely favors buffing yourself, as well as Special Attackers. Did not bring anything to punish Ground-types, surprisingly.

Edit: Finally scored a win for the shiny sand castle.

Skill Swapped Reckless off of Emboar on Turn 1. Grabbed Dudunsparce's Serene Grace on Turn 2. Healed and buffed to +6 Defense. Spammed Earth Power after that. Never fainted. Dropped to 10 hitpoints after a critical early-ish on.

Had the perfect team for this.
  • Drifblim: Shadow Ball for Special Defense drops (and probably non-neglible damage between Wild Charge recoil and Aftermath).
  • Dudunsparce: Serene Grace for better Special Defense drops on Earth Power (10% -> 20%). Needs these drops because of no means to boost Palossand's offense...well, save Curse as Tera: Ground or AncientPower.
  • Staraptor: Intimidate. Faints easier than the others.

Would have given Toxapex for Merciless a shot too. Likely clashes with Drifblim's Will-o-Wisps, though. Stole Haxorus's Rivalry on a prior attempt. Actually hurt Palossand's damage. Whoops.

Just crushed the raid with my friend. I lent him the Rhyperior and I used the Gouging Fire. Key NPCs from the two raids we ran were Sylveon with Charm in the first raid, and Arboliva with her Grassy Terrain in the second raid (even though I think she almost made us fail the second raid from nerfing Earthquake damage). Would probably switch to Shell Bell for solo attempts. Settled on Mud-Slap for Rhyperior over Drill Run as well.
