Well, we have the Staff Feedback Topic. I think it'd be awesome to have a Member Feedback Topic.
People can praise the members that helped them out with a lot of things and just say overall good things. I know a lot of you may think this could also cause a lot of negative drama and turn into a popularity contest, but it seems to me that these phases changed years ago and we've had a pretty awesome year so far that has very minor conflict. I think it'd just be an easy way for even the higher staff members see who is doing a good job and would be worthy of a promotion, because sometimes it's hard to see exactly what is going on. It'd make things easier, imo.

No, I know. You can always thank someone. But it's like in real life. I work at a Grocery Store. I could help out 1,000 people and get 1,000 thank yous, but the manager may not notice. However, if people are going to the manager and telling them how much I helped and stuff, it might give me more gratitude, a raise, a promotion, who knows. The thread would be more for telling people how helpful that person is, so maybe other people know who to ask for help for similar situations, so that members of a higher prestige and can 'put their name on the list', etc.

We do the same things for the regular moderators in the forum anyways. We have a topic to say some things they need to improve as well as the things they do well. I don't see why we can't have a topic that focuses on the positives of the members.

In Chit Chat Cafe there was a member appreciation thread where you could give shout outs to members for doing great things of if you just wanted to honor them in general. It may be dead now, but it was perfect for this! I just don't think an all out member feedback thread is the best route to go down haha. Not a bad idea, but just wouldn't be practical.

I think the thing about this is that it'll bog down to giving a shout out to a person for their attitude in their post rather than the quality of it.

Personally, the one person I'd like to give a shout out to is someone I actually argue and disagree with occasionally, but I do recognize the quality in their arguments and posts.

Also the thing about staff feedback is that it's good for a member to get to know the staff that run this place and how they work. I'd like to see some proper criticism in that thread though, since I almost always see high praise. Plus members are intimidated by staff to directly VM/PM them which I'll never, ever understand.
I don't see the benefit in having a member equivalent. A PM/VM could do just fine if you want to show your appreciation, but it seems your main argument is that it could be used as a reference to see who is worthy for a promotion? That's flawed, because it means that at the end of the day random members influence the decision, and as mentioned it'll boil down to promote someone for their attitude, not the quality of their posts or their knowledge. Then again, I don't agree with staff decision in these cases because that's pretty much how it is right now anyway, so I dunno.

The point of post comments is to be able to give a measure of feedback to a member, hopefully positive. An entire thread for it seems redundant to me, given that there's a multitude of other ways you can leave someone feedback, and the potential for it to turn into a spampit/flamepit is too great, I think.

Wait, you can get/give post comments?

Ah, thank you Doctor! That was exactly the thread I wanted to post in here. As long as it doesn't get any more serious than this, I don't see the problem in having a shout out thread for all members.

Yeah...Go into your UserCP -> Edit Options and enable them. You can leave them anonymously, if you so choose, or you can "sign it" at the end with your username. That, and the likes feature, are the preferred options really, if you want to leave feedback on a post.

Yeah I knew that. I have mine's disabled after a particularly egregious one that told me that I could stop posting in a thread. :|

Anyways, I really don't think we need a thread like this particularly because of the reasons above, and because it will most likely turn into a popularity contest. :/

Well, this sounds like a good idea, but there are soooooo many was that this could go wrong, It's impractical. I mean It'll probably turn into another "Dear Anonymous" thread. Dear Anonymous was ingenious but turned into a flame pit.

Honestly I've never see anybody use post comments before.

You guys do know the Member Appreciation thread went really well right? It's a shame it's not active still. I'd love to see it back. I don't think members deserve negative feedback, so I'd rather keep it just positive and appreciative things, not really "feedback" per se. Staff get a feedback thread because we're running this place. We need to know what we're doing well and what we can improve on. Members don't really need to hear that, especially when that can turn into a mess. Staff feedback can become a mess too, but I wouldn't want to subject members to negative feedback like staff can sometimes get.

Basically, I'm all for member appreciation thread to return.

Edit: I personally hate post comments. People think that because they're anonymous in them, they can be rude and I've gotten nasty things in the past to the point where I got Razor Leaf to disable mine. I may be staff, but I have feelings and it gives no one the right to leave crap in my post comments, nor do I want anyone treated that way regardless of rank. So I really don't want these enabled for everyone.

My feelings on post comments: anonymity will be abused.

Last I was using it, they were anon...shows how long I've had them disabled I guess.

Yeah members were anon then. I just enabled post comments because I only found out from here that they weren't really gone and I'm seeing the usernames of everyone who made a post comment.

You can choose when commenting if you want to be anonymous or not.

I always felt the idea of 'A Member Appreciation' thread was rather obsolete. The reason being is you can just talk to someone or thank them by VM/PM/IM. By having a thread dedicated to it, I always feel it will drum up more jealousy and bad vibes than doing good. Having a staff version is warranted though, as we all know the good it does.
