I have a thead about my new type idea, but instead of reviving it, I'm making this new one
& hopefully it'll be more interesting.
Up-dated as of Aug 2, 2014
The new type:
Beast
Why?:
This was orignally going to be the Monster-type, impired by the Monster
egg group. However, the word "Monster" proved to be too generic...
A pile of toxic goo with eyes?
MONSTER!!!
A horribly misshapen person?
MONSTER!!!
A perfectly formed person that is cruel?
MONSTER!!!
Anything massive?
MONSTER!!!
By now, you should get my point...
But Beast is FAR more specfic & upon reflection, is more of what I've been imagening
for this type...
Here is the dictonary defention I found of "Beast":
Any 4-footed animal, which may be used for labor, food or sport:
distinguished from birds, insects, fishes & man, & appiled especially
to large animals.
Pokemon of the Beast-type won't be monstly limited to the Monster egg group as I
orignally wanted, but it should be MUCH clearer of which pokemon could be this type.
Specfically, larger mammal-like pokemon with 4 legs, like Tauros & Entei would be Beast-type
& pokemon like Donphan & Beartic, of which are obiviously based off of large, 4-legged
mammals would be Beast-typed.
Pokemon like Persian, Zoroark, Chesnaught, Etc., would all be exculded for being based off of small animals.
(I thought it'd be cool to focus this type on the mammal-like pokemon, as Dragon focuses on
reptilan pokemon, many Water-types are fishes, insects have a type all their own in Bug & many
Flying-types being birds.)
The type match-ups:
Attacks Super-Effective Vs.:
Fire, Water, Dragon, Steel
Attacks not very effective Vs.:
Grass, Psychic, Beast
Attacks has no effect Vs.:
Ice
Pokemon resists:
Ground, Dragon, Beast
Pokemon weak to:
Grass, Bug, Psychic
Why does the type work this way?:
The only way I know of to try to further balance the type chart is to look at each indiviual types.
Fire & Water each has twice the resistances than they do weakness, so I made the Beast-type
super effective. However, Beast will not be resistant to them, as Fire & Water already has
equal number of types that their attacks are & are not effective against.
Dragons has 4 resistances & 3 weakness, but one of which can back-fire. (if using another Dragon
rather than being smart & using a different typed pokemon with a Dragon attack.)
Beast will provide an another reliable counter, as their attacks will be super-effective
& will resist Dragon attacks due to their VERY wide netual coverage.
(if looking at netual coverage, Dragon is the best attacking type, with only 3 of the
19 type in this case resisting or being immune.)
Steel is given the Beast-type weakness, as it has more resistances than it does
types that hits it for netual or super-effective damage. (& it has a immunity to boot!)
But Beast won't have a Steel resistance, as there is one more type that resists Steel
than there are types that are weak to it.
Beast attacks will be useless against the Ice-type, as it is without a doubt, the
WORST defensive type (so STOP making defeinsive Ice-Types, TrollFreak!)
& Ice has an equal number of types that are weak/resistant to it, so Beast
won't be weak to it.
Ground & Fighting are tied for being the best attacking types in the terms of having the greatest
super effective coverage, but Ground has a better netual coverage, so that's why Beast will
resist Ground & not Fighting.
Grass & Bug are super effective against Beast for the same reason:
They have 7 types that resists them while only 3 are weak to them.
The reason that Grass has Beast resistance while Bug doesn't is because Grass has more
weaknesses than resistances while the Bug-type has an equal number of weaknesses & resistances.
With the Psychic type being super effective & resistant against Beasts,
they'll then have a equal number of types that are super-effective, not very effective,
resistant & weak to them.
Beast resists their own attacks, so in this way, the Beast type is super-effective against
4 types, not effective against 4, resists 3 & are weak to 3.
If any of you see anything wrong with how this type works, be sure to tell me
what's wrong with it & why.
What older attacks would become Beast-type?
The more animalistic Normal-type ones, like Horn Attack, Crush Claw, Roar,
Noble Roar, Howl, Etc.
Which of the older pokemon will be Beast-type? (new)
In alphabetcial order, all of the currently existing pokemon I'd retype:
Arcanine (Fire/Beast), Arceus (with Feral Plate), Beartic (Ice/Beast), Bouffalant (Nomal/Beast),
Cubchoo (Ice/Beast), Donphan (Ground/Beast), Entei (Fire/Beast), Growlithe (Fire/Beast),
Hippopotas (Ground/Beast), Hippowdon (Ground/Beast), Luxio (Electric/Beast), Luxray (Electrc/Beast),
Milktank (Normal/Beast), Phanpy (Ground/Beast), Raikou (Electric/Beast), Shinx (Electric/Beast),
Suicune (Water/Beast), Tauros (Beast), Teddiursa (Beast), Ursaring (Beast).
& hopefully it'll be more interesting.
