6th Gen A parallel universe, where Mega Evolution is unkown

So, as we learn from Zinnia in this game, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire take place in an alternate dimension from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. This is a pretty big shake-up to the entire main series timeline, as it raises all kinds of questions about where (and even if) ORAS fits contemporaneously into the timeline of the rest of the games. In addition to that, it's still unclear as to whether or not any of the previous generation's games take place in this universe or the R/S/E universe.

So, I'm curious, what are your thoughts on ORAS taking place in a parallel universe to R/S/E? And do you have any theories on which of the other games take place in the ORAS universe, and which ones take place in the R/S/E universe?

All games probably take place in the same universe as the other core series games in the same generation. After all, Black 2 and White 2 took place in the same world as Black and White, just several years after.

My worry is that they're never going to expand on this, although it would be amazing to use it as a basis for a Hoopa/Gen4 reboot. Given the insane powers of Dialga and Palkia in a world of fantastic creatures, I'm not particularly surprised by her comment. I love that they took the leap and included it though, it expands the possibilities and intersections the series could have moving forward.

I'll admit that I didn't like the whole parallel universes thing at first. I know it's the only way they could explain the fact that Hoenn has Mega Evolution in ORAS where it didn't in RSE, but still, I felt like it complicated the continuity a bit too much.

But I'd actually be okay with it if they went more in depth about it. Maybe it was created by Dialga and Palkia, like you said, or maybe it's even the result of all of Hoopa's hyperspace shenanigans. There's a lot they could do with it and it'd be disappointing if they never explained it at all.

Also, I think X&Y take place in the same universe, since Zinnia mentions that the ultimate weapon was created in this universe, but wasn't created in the other one.

I know that one of the developers actually released his own timeline with the separate universes on Twitter, but I can't seem the find the image anywhere, especially since Google results just show a bunch of fanmade theories. :(

From what I remember though, it goes something along the lines of Gen I and II being their own universe (I guess they just differ because of connectivity issues, idk lol), I believe Gen III - V was all one universe, and then Gen VI is a new universe.

That's my hope, though. I feel as though they're going to release a more complex storyline at some point (like how Unova/Gen V was crafted over a longer period of time). They certainly have the material to do so, but with the more "we're making this more child-friendly" responses in the interviews, I worry. :(

And Hikari if only you could find it! Shucks. I get lost in all the fan-made theories, too, unfortunately.

They had to get themselves out of the corner they wrote themselves into in X/Y somehow. I still don't understand why they made it seem like Mega Evolution was a Kalos exclusive thing in X/Y when Mega Evolution was by far the most hyped new feature of the games and they had to have known they were gonna keep using it for years to come in all future games, including remakes.

I don't really mind it though. As much as I'm into game lore, the Pokemon timeline is not something I care what they do with much.

I remember the image of the tweet you're talking about. I wouldn't know how to find it, but it basically went like this:

-the stories of Kanto (Red/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen) and Hoenn (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) take place at the same time
-the stories of Johto (Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver) and Sinnoh (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) take place at the same time but after Kanto+Hoenn
-Black/White takes place after Johto+Sinnoh
-Black2/White2 and X/Y take place at the same time but after B/W

All in the same universe. And this was pre-ORAS. ORAS is the only main series game right now that takes place in a different universe, but I assume that at least all future remakes will take place in the same universe as ORAS.

I don't mind it that much. In a way, every version takes place in a dimension of its own, with the points of divergence between Ruby and Sapphire, and between OR and AS being much more recent that the ones between Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and OR/AS.
