I have to agree.

Although some don't mind about losing their postcount or rep, but others might find it hurtful to start from scratch again. Not to mention, like pika2000 said, you might get confused of being a newbie.

And besides, is it so hard to change a name? And if a name change thread is made, you can put a requirement that the person must put on his/her sig what was the old name. And also put a time-waiting period to change name again (For example, at SPPf, you must wait 2 months after a name change to have another).

I AM considering to change my name sometime on the future, but not by making a new account!

Those were my 2 cents.
I agree with every single word. Would'nt it better if each member only had one chance to change their name, or more?.

Pika2000, we do a lot of work around PC, so it shouldn't be a case of "ooh! let's find more work for the admins!" as you've posed in your argument..
The 10 of us who do have access cannot be on all the time due to other responsibilities outside of PC, especially when you consider that the number is cut due to limited time to visit by other admins..

Changing names is so much easier than having to change many hundreds of accounts (especially given that there are only 10 of us), just because the person doesn't want to lose their post count and reputation..post count and rep shouldn't matter to anyone, and if you really want to change your name then those factors should be the least of your worries. You only have to have your old username in your signature for a while if you want people to know who you are, which you would have to do anyway if you changed names.
Sorry, but for the sake of post count (which shouldn't be important anyway), making us change what could be hundreds of accounts would not be worth it.

I think it would be good if you could change your username, it would save all these accounts that nobody uses, and the amount of PMs the Admins must get "OMG change my un" and such, although I have never felt I wanted to change my username, I know alot have.

I'm just saying... you do it for some, then it's only fair to do it for all. =X

The only changes Ive seen are from members whove made a spelling mistake while signing up or who wanted some junky symbols removed from their names. (_ * ~) And I dont see those very often. One should think hard about coming up with their username to make sure their not going to get bored of it anytime soon. I use Lord Jaws wherever I go, unless youre not allowed spaces or something. Then it becomes LordJaws. My nick developed over a bit of time sure, but I ended up sticking with this because I liked it. So anywhere I was known as something else I just had to start again. Its part of the deal if you ask me.

Think of it this way everybody- we have around 8000 members at PC. If one person is allowed a name change, there's a potential 8000 people that will bug admins for a name change. Even though it won't be anything that close, it's still alot of work, and sets the stage for more drama than we need at PC. The Admins do alot of work at PC, and dealing with something as trivial as this is a waste of their time.

Andy, you know as well as I do that Jake is by no means the only one.

Claire- Once again, the time limit. x.x; Why not make the six-month limit apply to everyone?

Also, no offence or anything, but changing names is pretty easy. Just click the person's profile, click User Options, type the new name in the username field, and then click "Save". ^^;

A time limit? So they actually have to keep track of them when they ask for a change too?

How about you can change your name if you get 1000 or 1500 posts, change it againt with 2000 or 3000 and so on? No rep, because some people disable it and don't like it.

Maybe the staff should hire a few people dedicated to changing names and see how this goes, just give it a try.

Changing your name with count wouldn't work, it'd be more to keep track of for us.

Ty: Keeping track of when people have last changed, as well as changing them when needed, would be one major effort ^^;

Shinin: Some people post over 100 posts per day, so some people could change name every 10 days ^^;

Imakuni:It would be a heavy security breech to hire people just to change names >.<

Hey, I've got to agree with Ty & COM. I've been a sub-admin at another forums and changing user names is pretty easy. We should give that option to members who have atleast 500 posts. Also you can have a price. For Changing Names, you lose 100 posts and 500 Rep or something like that.

As ya all can see, I changed my username... And I dont miss my 7k postcount, neither my Reputation [which was disabled, but anyway]

I vote No. If ya want a new name, just make a new account, or stay with that one... Meh~

You could just give them permission to edit usernames. make a custom usergroup.

I think this would be good if someone made a mistake in there name and then tha admins could change it for them cuz theres no use starting with a new name XD

We do edit names Kimi. If someone joined and made a typo in their username then we do edit user names (if you did "rika_chan" where it should have been "Rika-Chan" we will edit it).

that would still mean admincp access, and the ability to change any details on the persons username, so it's still a breech ^^;

I voted no. o.o;; As already mentioned, if Admins decided to start changing peoples names instead of them re-registering, then 99% of PC would be pestering the Admins constantly begging for a name change. ~.~; Admins do enough work as it is. Besides, its not that hard to just re-register. o.o;;; If you're concerned about rep and post count, then dont be. ^^; They're just a bunch of numbers and stuff, and they dont really mean a thing. Just earn them back~ o.o

*goes to sleep*

It's not only rep and postcount, it's your posts in general, and join date.

We could enable usernotes for all members, and then have staff post in it when the member has a change. Easier to keep track of that way. It would also help when it comes to deciding bans/warnings/promotions for that particular member, instead of having to run an IP check, which might result in mistaking that member for somebody else. x.x;
