Suggestion: About notifications

1: Implement the '"Like" Notification' setting into the new notification system, ie. if one has it set to 'no' it shouldn't add to the count of notifications at the top of the page... right? To be honest I've forgotten what it does (or did) when set to 'yes'.

2: Include posts made in subscribed threads in the new notification system (E-mail updates are still the only option for that(!)), with one notification per thread that has been updated (as opposed to one per post made; that would get silly). Then make an appropriate yes/no setting for it like the one discussed above; and you should probably group it with the above setting like how the 'Visible Post Elements' settings are all in one box.

It's weird me adding to this since I should be able to do it myself but i have no idea how so - can we stop quote notifications re-adding themselves when someone edits their post? I've come online a few times and had like six notifications all for edits to the same post.

Don't know if this belongs here, but the messages notification has me set to 12 new ones when my box is empty, as I needed to PM myself all of my posts in there, any way to fix it? I looked in the stored and so what boxes and nothing.

Are you saying that you PM'ed yourself and then 12 new notifications popped up? Because if you PM'ed yourself through your own account, you should get a notification for that.

I'm not sure why people keep asking to have the notification system notify you when a subscribed thread has new posts when you can just click on your Control Panel and see which of your subscribed threads has new posts in it (and then go right to that thread).

I do want it to stop giving you multiple notifications for the same edited post though.

We can also go to the thread and see if there's any new posts, or we could check our email. What people want is to be notified as soon as there's a new post in that thread, without having to go to a specific page on the forum. I for one would really appreciate it if this were added.

I would also appreciate it if I never again recieved 3 notifications just because someone edited their post a few times.

I copied and pasted posts from my thread and PM'ed them to my self, once I got my thread fixed the way I wanted, I deleted the 8 PM's I sent my self, when I clicked back to the home page the message notification said I had 12 new messages, but to get the 8 PM's deleted, I deleted the whole box so it should have been 0 up there. I even clicked on the notice to see if it would disappear and it pops up a message that says the link is invalid and to contact an admin.

Only threads with posts made since your last visit are displayed there. I don't want to, nor can I very well remember to check that page every time I open my browser. At the very least, the updated threads should only disappear from the list when they have been explicitly checked, or else they should have to be acknowledged manually like notifications.

    My thoughts exactly!

There are so many threads that I'm interested in, but I only get notifications when someone quotes me or likes my post. While I'm thankful for that functionality I'd rather get a notification when the thread has a new post. (One notification for each thread that has new posts, not one notification for each post in a subscribed thread)

And as far as edits go, it's quite cumbersome when I check my notifications and see 4 of the exact same notification because someone did repeated grammatical fixes consecutively after quoting my post.

Personally I would love the option to have the old notifications system back, with the addition of quotes. The way it is now feels disjointed and messy. I personally don't receive so many notifications that I need them to be split up into two groups. I would merely like the old system to be an option (one drop down menu), along with the addition of quotes and the avatar/preview styling. Along with the bug fixes/additions mentioned above.
