Acquisitions

Whilst not an uncommon thing in business, we have seen some VERY radical shifts in the dynamics in the video game industry over recent months with several high profile acquisitions - in this year alone we've had the two largest ever made, with Microsoft's infamous acquisition of Activision Blizzard being the largest ever by a country mile, but we've also seen Take-Two acquire Zynga as the second largest. Sony have acquired Bungie, and Embracer Group have acquired part of Square Enix, as two others that made headlines and turned heads.

How do you feel about acquisitions like this? Do you think this will be a positive change for the industry, or will things such as platform exclusivity and possible creative differences/disagreements mean this could be a more negative factor? Are there any companies you would like to see bought out by other companies, or any you think will happen in the near future?

Honestly, unless it comes up super visibly on Twitter or something and piques my curiosity, I don't really pay attention to this stuff very much. I probably should, but its rarely something that seems interesting. Now that I see Square Enix has had part of it bought out though... well I hope it doesn't hurt their quality in the long run.

I'm not really a fan of acquisitions and mergers. Capitalism is a system that is solely about funneling as much wealth as possible into as few hands as possible, and that is exactly what acquisitions/mergers are about. Competition is good for the average person.
