5th Gen Aloe

She's ugly ... >3
It seems quite odd to include a black person. I [[[think]]] that it'll be censored and made white for the US version...
I thing GF never made something alike because they were afraid of racism and stuff. /o\

I didn't know they made Brock white too.

Hmm I don't know but I'd say a Champion with the royalty room.

What? Why would they "censor" her to white? lol Makes no sense.

From what I know, aloe is a plant, so, if she is a Gym Leader, she could be a Grass Gym Leader.

Maybe there are Plant specimens behind the glass cases then ;) Then that would explain the lack of plants compared to Erika and Gardenia's gyms...

I only hope she's better than Erika (Gardenia always beats me in the first battle because I always choose Piplup).

Well I defeated her in my first try with my Piplup and Staravia :P.
Yeah Erika was a push over...

You stupid? Theirs more racial diversity in America then just about any other country. Caucasians (AKA White People) were in the minority of births this year.

Barlow wasn't censored and he was a black person.

EDIT: This message was directed to 560cool.

Barlow is a main character in Pokémon Ranger Shadows of Almia.

Oh. well, I dont like that series ...

Anyway ...

Aloe hasnt been translated yet, so if she is a Gym Leader, dont take it to mean anything quite yet.

In the japanese games they also name the Gym Leaders according to type. Example: Erika's name comes from a japanese word that means pear blossom.

Okay, well in the new promotion video for bw on pokebeach there is a trainer named Aloe, unlike most trainers in the Pokemon games, she is black. Now Pokemon doesn't regularly include characters that are not white or tan, so this is quite odd. She seems to me like a healer, as there are many healers and witch doctors on the continent of africa
That was very stereotypical and maybe even a bit racist. :|

Spoiler:

No offense, but this is just plain stupid. The reason that black people are sometimes censored in dubs of anime is solely because they are usually portrayed in a somewhat offensive manner (IE big lips, pitch black skin, etc.) As you can see, making them lighter doesn't really offend anyone at all. Aloe won't offend anyone except white prejudices, she's just a normal anime-styled character, with a darker skin tone. Usually all five of the black people in Japanese media look exactly the same.

We have Aloe, we have the football player, we have Iris in the anime…

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Still, a teal afro seems like a silly colour for her hair, but it's interesting to see different skin colours nonetheless.
They have darker skin, so what?

This might actually be more powerful than a lot of you may think. Showing people with different skin tones is a great thing. Pokemon is insanely popular with children worldwide, and this has potential to build tolerance amongst many of them, especially with the age group that doesn't even notice "races". It's wonderful that Game Freak is making an attempt not to exclude people of different skin tones, without making them seem like "token" characters. With Pokemon being as popular as it is, this could possibly make black people become more common in anime, manga, and video games. There's a new generation of media creators coming up in Japan, and many of them are growing up with Pokemon.

And no one forget Barlow.

As for her role in the game, for some reason I don't think she's a gym leader. I like the idea of her being Iris's mother. We do have that rumor that says Iris is based on an in-game character.

That's kind of racist of you to say that...
Well they didn't censored Yorichi from Bleach (though this is not related to GF but it still serves my point), so I doubt they will censor her in the US version...

And they didn't censor Barret from Final Fantasy VII.
