    Anime Contract Challenge 4

    It's the beginning of a new month, which means it's time for a new Contract Challenge. For those of you who aren't yet familiar with these events, don't worry it's easy to participate in and very casual. As an added bonus, it's a great way to find new anime to watch and new people to talk to.

    The way this works is pretty straightforward. If you want to join, you simply comment in this thread to say so. Then, after about a week has gone by, everyone who has joined goes into an RNG to be paired with another participant. You and your pair give each other a series to watch and enter into a contract to watch the series during the month and then come back here and review it.

    There's no pressure though! Whilst you're encouraged to try, you don't actually need to finish the series you get. The idea is just to try something new and see how you like it. If you don't, that's totally fine you get write a scathing review at the end ;).

    Some helpful tips going into this, a month can creep up on you surprisingly fast so it's a good idea to start the series you get as soon as you can. It's also helpful to give your partner for this month a link to your MAL (or something similar) or to tell them the sort of things you're into - it makes their job easier.

    Alright, it's been five days which is approximately when I've started the last two and since sign-ups have slowed right down I figure it makes sense to start now whilst we have an even number. The pairs for this month are as follows

    I just finished Psycho-Pass which was quite the ride. I loved pretty much everything about this series. There were interesting and complex characters with real development. Almost all of the main cast were really well developed and even those who were a little lacking in development still left an impression.

    The animation/art was fantastic too with fluid scenes and appealing designs. I really like the sort of gloomy atmosphere of the city too. There's something very telling in the art and music there from the get go, that despite Sibyl supposedly creating a sort of utopia there's a lot of shady shit going on behind the scenes.

    Finally, the story was magnificent and also very well executed. the first few episodes made it look like it would be very episodic in nature, but as the big picture started coming together and everything was tied in it became clear a very well constructed overall plot had been constructed. My only complaint here is that the relationship between the characters, the Sibyl system and the events surrounding it was not explored to its fullest extent. However, as there is a sequel I'm willing to not drop my rating for that depending on how the sequel handles the aftermath of this season.

    So Psycho-Pass gets a tentative 10/10 for me that might drop to a 9/10 if things with Sibyl aren't properly resolved in the sequel.
