I've had two friends tell me they knew they were gay before they even hit puberty, just as I had another figure out he was gay after he entered college (and damn, he was scared). When it comes to the way you swing, you could be 7 or 27 when you figure it out.
Of course if Ash is gay or straight, he probably won't figure it out for years to come. Poor boy's life doesn't want time for anything but friends and fighting.
I dunno, that young age doesn't seem right to me. Maybe it wasn't the right feelings they were getting, could've been something else, but then being "gay" is the "thing to do" right now so they openly admit that's it. It could've been a number of things.
