NPC Companions are an integral part of the video game experience. After all, who wants to play as a character who never interacts with anybody? That would be pretty dull. Anyways, these characters can enhance gameplay for players, providing an emotional link to the story and at times even helping in combat.

The problem is that sometimes, for whatever reason, companions can just be downright annoying. Whether they're bombarding you with side quests, interfering in a fight, or JUST WON'T SHUT UP (sorry), I have found myself at times wanting to shoot my own partners rather than the enemy.

So, what do you think? Do you have any "annoying" companion stories?

When it comes to annoying companions, I have mentioned that the Adoring Fan from The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is really annoying. If you do a search for the Adoring Fan on YouTube, there is a lot of videos showing him getting killed in various ways. I recall I once killed him inside an Oblivion Gate. Plus, the fan nickname for him is the Annoying Fan.

Pretty much every Zelda companion ever, except for the slightly less intrusive than usual Midna...although even her laugh grated on my nerves after a while. She and Fi both get points for being relevant plot devices, but Fi annoyed me almost as much as Navi did.

Ashley in Resident Evil 4 was infuriatingly useless, as well. When she wasn't getting kidnapped, she was babbling incessantly despite the fact that she's in the middle of a horde of angry farmers/cultists. It was awesome having her wear a suit of armour, but...ugh, my god.

Also, Adam Malkovitch, in both Metroid Fusion and Other M. In Fusion he's just an irritating dictator with no real use besides telling you where to go next or what to do. In Other M he's the worst kind of superior officer there is, and he's not even Samus' superior anymore as she's outside of the military!

Am I the only one who actually liked Navi? XD
And I just loved Midna!!! She's my favorite Zelda character ^_^

I've never really liked Fi.. I don't know, she just wasn't a good character as Midna and Navi (IMO).

I usually don't like companions in my games since they have a tendency to get in the way and not be helpful. I also like to do things at my own pace or in my own way but you can't really do that with companions cuz they tend to do things how they want and not how you want. Especially in Bethesda games. Always avoid having someone tag along if possible. The best is when you're fighting a dragon or something near a town and your blade just happens to nick a guard or a guard suddenly decides to get in the way or your arrow and then the entire fucking town guard is trying to kill you after the dragon dies T_T

Best one though was this one time in Oblivion where I was supposed to save this duke's idiot son who ventured into an Oblivion gate. I finally catch up to him, see him fighting some daedra on a bridge, so I hurry over to help him. And while fighting the daedra I accidentally whacked him. And then he starts swinging at me. So I sheath my weapon and starting running around hoping that he'll calm down. But then he falls off the bridge and into the lava below. So I had to jump down and almost kill myself trying to retrieve his signet ring so I at least could finish the quest. -_-

The one good time was that one Companions mission in Skyrim where you go to Dustman's Cairn with Farkas. That last room man, the one with like 30 dragur in it, Farkas and I were doing some work yo

As for other games, some companions are good, some are shit.

I don't think I'm in a minority of people who like Navi anymore, thankfully. Ever since Skyward Sword, people have shifted their attention to hating Fi, which I get but...don't get. She's quirky and has a huge sense of depth to not only Skyward Sword, but to the series as a whole. She's technically with you in every game that gives you a Master Sword. I also love Midna, but I think that's most peoples' favorite Zelda companion. I've never heard much of a complaint about her except for her laughing and yawning being a bit annoying, but it never bothered me much. Tatl is pretty underrated as a partner as well. ...This thread is supposed to be about annoying companions right?

Anyway, Rui/Anca from Pokemon Colosseum is a bit of a pain. I get that she's relevant because she can see the dark auras of Shadow Pokemon, but I find her a bit intrusive physically, like when I'm trying to go back from where I came and she's RIGHT THERE in my way. I love Agate though, because you can ditch her if you place her a certain way and then walk off. It feels so free to be walking as one person during the time she's stuck on a hill. So glorious.

Donald in Kingdom Hearts I/II is a bit annoying too. I don't know anyone else that runs into battle screaming "I GOT IT!!" and then dying shortly after making that declaration. Yes, I'm aware you can change his settings and make him not terrible, but let's be real, he's totally let you down before even though he thinks he's got it.

Immediately the game that comes to mind is Kingdom Hearts. Donald and Goofy are the most irritating companions I can think of.
It's honestly the reason I think I enjoyed BBS and Days better than 1 & 2. I just get so irritated with their noises and antics. :P

    "SORAAAAA!!"
    "I got it!"
"Boya!!!" (idk that sound goofy makes)
"AHHHHHhhhhhHhHHhHhHHHHHh -in a quacky smoker voice idk-"

Yeah, I'll take Ven being on his own saying "See ya!!" a million times over Donald's "I GOT IT!!!" lol I'm like, "DONALD. NO. YOU DON'T GOT IT. YOU AIN'T GOT SHIT. GO HOME."

I guess mine is more of a technical thing, as I really only hate it when games give you companions that have their own health you have to worry about, like you'll fail a mission if they die or something. And it's a bigger problem when their AI is not smart enough to follow you without getting hurt, so you always have to check up on them to make sure they're not stuck behind a wall or walking through enemy fire, while trying to complete your main objective.

That was every companion in Saint's Row The Third. I failed the last trafficking mission so many times because of Zimos' dumb AI it's not even funny. He kept getting into burning cars and exploding even though I was already waiting for him in a car that's not on fire. ಠ_ಠ

Oh, I forgot. Airy from Bravely Default is really annoying. I don't know if she counts as a companion per se, but I'm including her since she's supposed to be Agnes' guide and such. But her voice is really annoying as is her pushiness. It's almost scary how pushy she is in getting the crystals awakened. But if you've finished the game, then you know why she's relevant in the first place.

    Navi.

For me Navi honestly hindered the experience a bit. I literally enjoyed the game less because of the character. She told you everything about the game and then made sure to remind you of it a few times. I know this was the first time Zelda was in 3D, so they wanted to be sure that fans knew what was going on in the game, but this is simply annoying. (Not to mention that there are other, and better, ways to explain your game's mechanics other then just outright telling them.)

    Also Slippy. Just... Slippy.

This. I can't even tell you how much this drives me insane. It's even worse when the character in question has no combat abilities whatsoever, yet insists on running into every darn enemy on the map.
