For mathematical reasons:
TLDR: there is no number x such that x * 0 = 1, means there is no inverse to 0; in other words, you cannot divide by 0.

R is the field of all real numbers. It cannonically comes with two operations: addition + and multiplication *. To be called a field means that the addition and multiplication come with some properties that follow the usual rules of calculus that you already know.
In particular, the addition and the multiplication respectively come with a unit, that is "neutral" to these operations. The unit of the addition is 0 (because any number + zero gives that number) and the unit of the multiplication is 1 (because any number times one gives that number).
Another rule, is that addition and multiplication have inverse operations, namely substraction and division. This means that for any number, there is another number (called opposite) such that the sum of them gives 0 (the unit of the addition). For example, the opposite of 3 is -3 (because 3 + (- 3) = 0). The same applies to multiplication: for any number (except 0), there is another number (called inverse) such that the multiplication of them gives 1 (the unit of the multiplication). For example, the inverse of 3 is 1/3 (because 3 * (1/3) = 1).
By extension, substraction by 5 means that you add -5, and division by 5 means that you multiply by 1/5. So you substract and you divide only if the opposite or inverse exist.
So why is it that that you can't divide by zero? There is a theorem that says that every time you have addition and multiplication with units and inverse operations, the unit 0 always has the property that the multiplication of 0 with any other number is 0. In particular, that means that there is no number x such that x * 0 = 1, means there is no inverse to 0; in other words, you cannot divide by 0.
