Anyone else miss a strong water type move in the department stores?

Does anyone other than me miss a strong water type move in the department stores?

Yes, I know that you can buy Blizzard and teach it to most water type Pokémon, but I wouldn't mind to buy Hydro Pump as a TM.

This discussion is aimed for the games before Black and White since the TMs are unlimited in Black and White.

I never minded a lack of water type TMs not in stores because the likes of Surf and Waterfall are more than fine enough for me. Not very partial to Hydro Pump either; I'm not a great fan of moves that can miss and the low PP is a turnoff too.

I agree, Water Pulse has a power of 60 and that's just average, you have to wait several Gyms until you can obtain Surf which is a great water move IMO, I'd love for there to be a Water Move with a power of 75 early on in the game and same goes for a Grass type move.

Wouldn't that arguably make the games too easy though? Part of the fun for some is the challenge and having access to overpowered moves early on seems odd imo; should be weaker moves for the weaker Pokemon early on and then an increasein power as the game goes on steadily.

I guess I've always been surprised that Hydro Pump has never been a TM. You've got the Fire/Ice/Electric equivalents, and it's a shame that Hydro Pump can't join its ranks. But I believe a lot of water Pokemon eventually learn that move, as opposed to Fire Blast/Blizzard/Thunder etc. So, because of this, there's less of a demand for the move as a TM. I guess the completist in me would like to see it for no other reason than to complete the 'set' of TMs, if you will.

But I don't 'miss' it, personally. Indeed, even if it was turned into a TM, I probably wouldn't use it, as I love Surf too much. I love its accuracy and its power. Much moreso than Hydro Pump, I'm afraid.

With Surf and Waterfall as HMs, I don't think Hydro Pump and friends really need to be a TM.

Ya, I agree with most of the people in this thread; Surf is a pretty amazing move, especially for an HM, so I don't thing Hydro Pump is really super important

That being said, I would use it, for sure, cause I really like the animation. I'd have to use a PMax on it though

I for one would like to see it made into a TM, I always wondered why they never set it up alongside Thunder, Fire Blast, and Solarbeam

Huh. I didn't even notice that Hydro Pump wasn't available as a TM. I guess it's because it's not a move I like using in-game because of its low PP and accuracy. Also, as others have noted, there are already great Water-type HMs available in the forms of Surf and Waterfall, so I don't mind waiting a little bit longer to get access to those instead of picking up a TM along the way.

I don't think Hydro Pump needs to be a TM. We already have Waterfall and Surf, which do reliable damage and don't have pitiful accuracy.

Not to mention Gen V also gave us Scald, which also has reliable damage and can burn the foe.

I think it's fine not being a TM and tbh I've never really noticed the absence of a water type TM because by the time you'd need one you already have Surf and/or Waterfall.
