But seriously mods, I sent that stupid VM because you guys were really detracting from my experience here on PC. I needed answers, because that bright-blue thing was really annoying, and my eyes hurted.

And Went if you happen to read this this is exactly the reason why I did the censor bypass. By about 9 PM I was FISHED (because what is another but a censor bypass infraction) and I just had to let my anger out someway.

Yeah, some new members will have been lost or scared off or whatever, but that's something that comes with most AF pranks. Granted, this was a bigger one than usual, but it's a small loss next to the rest of the year and we (mostly!) had a bit of fun so on the whole I guess it evens out.

Still a bit of a shame though.

Man, I must say, this has got to be one of the biggest April Fools pranks I've ever seen here! I thought all day yesterday that the takeover was either the biggest April Fools prank around or it was for real (thinking both almost simultaneously). (I was kind of thinking this was all for real since Lerroux had been around for a bit of time, and I seem to remember seeing his name in the Site Admin color quite awhile before the 1st.)

This takeover looked to me like an accelerated version of when Howard Hughes took over RKO Radio Pictures, with the studio declining rapidly under his watch into the 1950s (which led to Walt Disney breaking off his distribution deal with them and setting up Buena Vista Distribution). Hughes eventually sold RKO to General Tire and Rubber, but by then the damage was irreversible.

All that demodding reek'd of when SJL Broadcasting re-purchased WTVG 13 in Toledo, OH and WJRT-TV 12 in Flint, MI from ABC/Disney (SJL had owned both stations previously, but sold them to what was then Capital Cities/ABC in 1995, after the big Fox affiliate shakeup the year before), after the sale of these two stations closed (which, coincidentally, happened on April Fools Day 2011), SJL claimed that there would be no staff cuts at either station. Then, all of a sudden, just a few days later, around 20 or more staffers from each station were fired. While WTVG's firings were all behind-the-scenes people, cuts at WJRT also included longtime news anchors Bill Harris and Joel Feick (both having been there when SJL owned the station before). In addition, around the time of the sale, WJRT's news director Jim Bleicher and General Manager Tom Bryson (both also having been there when SJL owned the station previously) both retired. (Both Bill and Joel have since been picked up by cross-town NBC affiliate WEYI-TV 25.)

I had also drawn another parallel to the early 1980s, when a man named Al Kessel bought some Kroger stores in the Flint and Saginaw areas of Michigan, renamed them "Kessel Food Markets", and busted the unions out of them. Some of the employees at the Krogers that were taken over were able to reapply for their old jobs, but with reduced wages and no benefits, while others lost their jobs altogether. (Kessel has since sold his chain back to Kroger, resulting in some locations going Kroger>Kessel>Kroger.)
