I've never seen the anime or manga so I have no idea of the lore, but by playing this game, I realized that Brendan is such a nice friend. Brendan always tries to help you out and gave you a lot of important items. Even in the end, he tried to catch you and give you advice on how to beat the champion, all qualities of a great friend. And the game ended up slamming the door on his face again and again. Screw the hall of fame, you should just walk away and hang out with Brendan for the day.

xD Actually, Brendan was the first bad rival imo. Well, Brendan/May depending on what gender you chose to play as yourself. They were just buddybuddy and annoyingly helpful all the time and you never really felt that you wanted to battle and best them fiercely, like with Green/Blue and Silver. I mean, those gen I/II guys were downright mean at times. Rivals, really. Brendan/May were just... there. "Hello I'll give you this! Oh, you defeated me, wow! Let's all be friends!" It wasn't that exciting after a while.

So I probably wouldn't invite Brendan to dinner, well, at least I'd make him pay as payback for all the times he stopped and annoyed me with his dorky smile on the journey xD

I do like Brendan, but I wouldn't invite him for dinner. If anything, I would hang out with May if she was a real life character.

I agree that Brendan was more of a friend than a rival. If anything, Wally was the underdog who became your true rival by the end of the game. He was my hardest battle besides from the Champion, Steven. When given a rival in a Pokemon game, I want a tough rival who believes he is better than you until you kick his butt at the very end of the game. Still from that point on they try to get better and defeat you as Champion, similar to how Blue was in Generation 1. To me, that constitutes as a rival.

If I had a rival, I more than likely wouldn't want to hang out with him. Therefore, I would invite Brendan to hang out because I don't see him as a threat at well. He is a nice guy that gave me good advice throughout m adventure. he was more liked than feared.

Somewhere in the game it says May/Brendon was a childhood friend. I always felt bad for beating him xD If he was a little more about being a friendly rival who is ready to give you a good challenge but at the same time isn't quite a "Gary" or "Silver" it might of been a tad less awkward. I also hated the fact they could not join you in the hall of fame. .w. I felt like a jerk <.<
Wally on the other hand always made me feel horrible for beating him. The poor kid ;w; His losses made him stronger though, which I suppose was the point. I'd of liked to see him win something though, even if you had to sit through him battling a passing by Gym Leader or something XD
