Chit-Chat: Back to the Grind(stone)

I'm on a game browsing (not downloading) spree despite having Shadow of Mordor in. Then again, since i have future plans for my laptop and desktops (reformatting and new rigs hopefully in the near future), i might as well think ahead.

Doujinstyle. I think this would ring a bell to some VG people here. Speaking of Doujinstyle, i think Steam has a group dedicated for them Japanese indie game creators.. and i used to have a hundred of these kinds of games with an old WinXP Desktop, which by the way makes my current laptop a piece of Alienware Tech, compared to said WinXP Desktop i had years ago.

Speaking of Doujin soft games... I think i found what could be the best after my personal favorite in Full Metal Sister Marilu (btw, get that game you guys. Its the best)

As a European pleb, I hope to god the digital version is at least considered. I need more Maya.
Aw, def would have preferred a surprise reveal.

Really don't like the cast-centric nature of gaming today. It's like there's just no stock in surprises anymore. It was always kinda a thing, some games handling it better than others, but nowadays it's used for advertisement, which can makes sense, but goddamn is it annoying. Disappointing, even.

Having the full cast revealed before the game is even out does rob the game of a little of the magic of discovery - which many games these days don't have - is a bit annoying, I'll admit. I've gotten used to it, though.

I just don't look at any news that isn't an announcement or a release date. I know my own tastes well enough by now to not waste my money on games I won't like (mostly, I do have occasional slip-ups like Mugen Souls, Time and Eternity, and Dungeon Travelers 2) so I don't need all this unnecessary spoilerific information designed to get me hyped up enough to buy the game.

Like, you've got my money already, guys. Now shut up unless you're going to announce something important - like a release date - and let me get on with things, y'know?

...oh, but if Yuri Lowenthal is going to feature prominently in your dub voice cast, do let me know. I need to mentally prepare myself for that kind of torment.

Well its not the fault of these game companies that they have to advertise their cast of characters amirite? We all have to accept that this is the way things are to be conducted since people today are the kinds of people who like being "hyped up" even moreso than it was a decade or two ago.

Personally, I'd like to have another MGS 2 moment where we play as the main franchise star, only to have our hero replaced by some pretty boy protag.

We got that with Apollo, only he was advertised. Imagine if they advertised the gake instead with the first half of Case 4, we only had any idea of 18 year old gavin and then out of nowhere the box has this new guy, the game is named after him and then 10 hours later, you finally play that case.

I rather have that than what happened with Megaman X7.

For people who don't know about MMX7:

Well, its pretty simple. Megaman X is the star of the franchise. Heck the boxart shoves it in our face that he's the star, yet when you play the game..

Spoiler:

I'm totally fine with Maya's appearance being revealed. I was concerned if she'll appear or not (despite some subtle evidence), but now it's confirmed she'll be in it so I'm very happy. Besides, there's still a lot more stuff concerning aa6 we're unsure yet.

This is more or less how I feel about Maya's reveal. She was one of my favorite characters in the first AA soooo... I'm happy.

I have a question for VG Dcc, would you play a game where instead of fighting Nazis, you are an SS Nazi Stormtrooper under the command of Adolf Hitler and your mission is to obliterate the Allied Forces Scum and let the 3rd Reich take over the world, or would you still prefer to play as MURICA and kill every single Nazi you see including Nazi dogs, Nazi SS Female officers, Nazi professors, and even Nazi children since the only good Nazi is a dead one?

I think I'd prefer to play a JRPG. xD

That said, I think it could be interesting, playing on the opposite side of the fence for a change. I typically gravitate towards villains in games, so playing as someone who is typically cast as a villain is appealing to me.

...and let's face it, things weren't as black and white back then as they are portrayed in the games. I expect playing as a Nazi would be a much more interesting and thought-provoking (and historically accurate) experience, because you can bet any developer who took THAT on would have to be phenomenally careful with it to minimise the backlash they'd inevitably suffer.

A Third Reich JRPG? Yo Square-Enix, you have an idea over here. Please notice.

I still remember that EDGY segment in CoD: World at War where the player has to partake in a heartless slaughter of German citizens by playing as a Red Army Grunt under the command of Stalin. It was a rare moment where i actually felt sorry for those poor Germans.

You want Square Enix to handle it?! Why not get Konami to make one whilst you're at it? xD

One of the main reasons I dislike war games is because of their very black-and-white mentality; they distort and sensationalise the very thing they're trying to portray. Yeah, I guess it's only a game and shouldn't be taken seriously, but...well, just seeing the other side for a change, or not having slaughter glorified, or even just being a little morally grey, would be nice.

I've not played a CoD game in a while, though...but I think they've moved on to more modern, fictional stories rather than famous battles from the last century, right?

Trigger Warning: Rant mode activated. Killing too much orcs has its nasty side effects and at the same time killing Nazis in Brutal Wolfenstein D:

Pretty much. CoD moved from its WWII roots down to the modern soldier simulator fest starting with CoD4. The funny thing is that many of the games that had their WWII roots moved down the same path. Battlefield and even Medal of Honor. Yes. Even Medal of Honor, one of my classic faves moved there with MoH Warfighter...

Honestly though as much people love to bash on CoD for oversaturating the market, along with its style of gameplay affecting many other shooters, a lot of people tend to forget that the CoD games and their single player campaigns are still pretty good and provide a nice little story for those not interested in owning the crap out of 13 year old boys in multiplayer.

Then again, that's what happens when we have to deal with several fandoms and tribes of people. I honestly get sick of reading comments on yewtube of people using CoD as their anti-benchmark whenver they are commenting on some videos of old games, like whenever I'm looking at some of the PSX games of old. We get it anti-CoD boys (yes i have the right to call these people "boys"). CoD according to your narrow minded brains is bad. CoD oversaturated the market. Activision is whipping the CoD Dev teams to release a game every 2 years and with streamlining. We get it. That doesn't mean you have to use CoD as your typical anti-benchmark just to spark youtube flamewars that end up being my daily dose of laughing material.

Heck the whole aiming down sights mechanic was introduced to FPS games years before CoD came into existence. Viet Cong mother-flowers.

Actually yeah forget square-enix. They probably put a Lightning Expy as a female SS Elite guard for the main hero's "love interest". Kojima productions should do it. A Third Reich themed JRPG directed by Hideo Kojima. I can only dream.

Iiiii'm not really a fan of either. o>

What did you not like about one of the best PS3 games? :P
...you are kidding, right? The combat was a glitchy mess, the soundtrack and voice acting was horrendous, and the story was too cliche and bland even for me. Absolutely stunning visuals, but otherwise it was complete trash!

> Next Call Of Duty may be called Bloodlines

I'll save you all some money and let you know how it will be -> the same as every other Call of Duty ever released: BORING.

Calling it: a soldier travels back in time to WWII and fights all the way to modern day warfare through the lives of his family lineage. ISN'T THAT JUST SO EXCITING?!?!
