Bad usernames.

This. Ugh, they're the worst.

I think that the username should be memorable or personal to the user rather than to anyone else. If that person has a bright personality and is just a great friend all around, then I think you'd remember them even if their username was terrible. So it's like saying, "Your name is as great as you make it."

I agree on both points. Special characters just makes things more difficult, for the user and others who may need to type out that username. I also agree about the uniqueness of a name. Sometimes the most simplest of words or names can be great and unique in their own way. Sheep, Adventure, Strawberry, and Went all come to mind.

Point -- I was kinda meaning that but failed completely to explain. :(

I remember when having 'i' as in like iPod behind a name (eg. iMadShotZ) was popular. Man I'm glad I didn't buy into that trend when I made my PSN account.

This reminds me of my Neopets days and how picky I was with usernames.. :( But here is my list:

1) Usually not a fan of numbers but they can be pretty okay.
2) I've always disliked names with double i's.. not sure why. So a name like Liin would make me cringe hngg.
3) Underscores kill me. We're beyond the times of spaces not being allowed in usernames (for the most part?) so let us stick with spaces instead!
4) Names like ice pokemon trainer123. That just screams laziness or rushing to sign up.

And other things. I wouldn't ever judge a person by their username but if we're going off of usernames alone then the above are what I think~ I also used to be obsessed with Japanese names but nowadays they're kind of boring to me.

Well, this could be a while. I'm going to explain what I always judge via Xbox 360 when I play online:

1) Clan names: I don't mind them, but they have to be neat. For example, if I were playing Team Flag in Halo 4 with the following: PC Mac, PC Castform, PC Axeliira, PC Sheep, PC Sector. Then that clan is legit with the names. But if they went by: PC M4C, PC xCaStFoRm, PC Axeliira90, PC xoxSheepxox, PC S e c t o r. Then I'd have to say your creativity sucks with the names. That's just my view.

2) I dislike usernames with numbers, PERIOD. Sorry to [supporter]Castform[/supporter], but [supporter]jellicentfan1[/supporter] simply wasn't that good ;) I understand all the names that you like might be taken, but be creative with something else. You might like it better, be well known with that. Another thing, I see more kids with numbers in their names like that, such as BrianIsPro53 or whatever, on Xbox Live. I was formerly Yami Slifer, before I made a change to [supporter]Sector Revenge[/supporter]. When I made the transition, my nephew then started using my name(I'm a role model to my nephews because of my gaming success, apparently). On PS3 however, he had the name Yami Slifer7. See a number?

3) I don't like names that don't have a rhythm to it. For example: Revenge Sector. Does that look right or even feel right when you say/think it? Yeah. I like names are original or are good with the rhythm that can be looked/treated as a first and last name, hence [supporter]Sector Revenge[/supporter]. I prefer a space between them, but because you cannot space on some sites or places, its okay with an _ or nothing in between xD I think its stupid though, but whatever.

4) Like many have said before, the x's, like xxxBlahISuckxxx or XxXBlahISuck or xXxBlahISuckxXx or xoxBlahISuckxox, etc. While it can look cool for some usernames, I think its a pointless thing. I rather it be Blah I Suck or BlahISuck

5) Mispelling words (BlahISuk or BlahISux even, slangs are lame) or words scrambled together, like Esper said previous about hithereimjack, have spaces between every letters in your username (Example: S e c t o r) or names in ALL capitalized, such as ESPER, looks like you're just careless about the name & want to get to the point what you signed up for or in a rush for something.

Yeah, there's my 2 cents. Enjoy.

The only real problem I have with online usernames, is the xXx(InsertCoolName)xXx pattern that I see in some games. What's even worse, is when people go ahead and use numbers for letters in that same name. Now, don't get me wrong; sometimes, it happens to just work out and look great. But you've got to be original with it.

If I had a dollar for every variation of xXxD4ng13sL1k3D4t5yukxXx (DanglesLikeDatsyuk) or xXx5cor35L1k3Bur3xXx (ScoresLikeBure) that I've seen while playing NHL online, I'd have enough to buy myself a real NHL "fr4nch1s3".

I generally think bad usernames are just names that were made very quickly with little to no thought put into them. These are usually names with lots of random letters and numbers used just so you could join a website and have little intentions to sticking around. For example, [supporter]jellicentfan1[/supporter] is a horrible username and why would anyone use it?

I don't mind numbers, but if you have too many in the name then that would be considered overdoing it. The only reason I stuck the 10 in my name in the first place was because the name was already taken so I improvised plus these days I usually just get referred to as "Hikari" (without the numbers) and I eventually plan to change to a name here that I use on the battle server because this name is almost 3 years old, and with the recent return of the name change function I think it'd be time I adopt a new identity to coincide with my 3rd PCversary next March.

Plus, this is the only place I'm currently active on where I have numbers in my name. On most other sites I'm on, my username usually has references to Oshawott (heck even my EGC username/one of my server names is it's final evos' Japanese name).

I can't stand those with numbers in. At all. I can just about tolerate underscores and hyphens/dashes, but only because I have to use them when websites don't allow clean spaces.

Also, any that are just like 'Sora246235012511' or 'XxxilovesoraxxX', etc. Just, people need to be more original. So many these days just grab a main/favourite character from a series, and tack numbers on the end.

I could never stand names with a bazillion underscores or x's. Sometimes it can't be helped with XBL/PSN and Twitter with character limits and how sparse things are to use an underscore in the front and in the back, but it just seems lazy

Numbers are acceptable in certain contexts...but not sloppily tacked on the beginning or end of the name. Sector1 where "Sector One, SectorOne or Sector_One" wouldn't work is fine. Likewise "jellicentfan1" isn't too tacky or unacceptable, since there's only one number, not just a random string of numbers.

xXx, XxX, Xx, and xX are somewhat sloppy, but they have certain meanings. If those make sense, they're fine, but usually they don't. I've actually only seen one username where they were used correctly and they were acceptable.

Similarly, ~*~, *~*, and other symbol groups or decorations are tacky, but are occasionally acceptable in some contexts.

Together, all of the above would be unacceptable.
Example:
~xXCuteBby193Xx~" would be a horrendous username, while something like "CutieBaby1974", "xXCutieBabyXx", or "~CutieBaby~" might be less tacky, though "CutieBaby" would be a better choice for a name. Better yet, an entirely different name like "DearBaby" would be best if the desired username, "CutieBaby", IS taken and ISN'T inactive. If the old user is gone, then maybe a "CutieBaby1", "CutieBby" or "KyutieBaby" might be acceptable.

In essence, the offense of a username lies not in the characters used, but the intent of it's usage. Are they turfing in on a taken username? Does ANYONE else have a very similar username?

Anything that makes the username hard to read. So fillers, multiple numbers, lack of capitalization/spaces, etc. If I can glance at your username, read it, and understand it quickly, then it's good enough for me.

P.S: Shoutout to andrew for taking my name and never posting :( Lol

Sadly, he posted once and then never returned. If I were you though, I'd request the name change to Andrew any way and just put he made one post way back but hasn't returned in over eight years. You might just get your request!

That'd be great! But I don't exactly meet the requirements set for changing an inactive user's name (1 year since I joined and 1000+ posts). Oh well, can't hurt to ask I guess xP

Oh damn I forgot about that :( I'm sorry bro! Just keep being active and you should get it, capice?

Don't worry about it :) I didn't even realize name changes were allowed again, so at least now I know have I have a shot at getting the name! I'll just have to work for it :) Thanks!

Yeah! They turned them on a few weeks ago (the 26th of November, IIRC). Thanks to our lovely new server and Audy's tinkering!
