'basic member' avatars

is there any particular reason the 'base members' (those not belonging to any other usergroups like supporters or staff) have an utterly abysmal avatar size which is rather unfair on them
or is it kept that way to try entice donations

In my opinion this, mainly because it's a driving force of why I personally believe people donate to the site. Just a perk because there aren't a lot of perks that could actually be given to supporters (based on discussions I've been a part of in the past.)

It's a flawed system to say the least.

i just don't think it's too much to ask for a base member to have 150x150 and then donate from there

I can see where you're coming from, 130x130 is unfathomably small for a basic avatar size but I think the likely reason why it's there is to encourage donating for supporters' perks such as the bigger avatars.

I feel the need to remind you all that the general staff never sees a penny of donation money so it's pretty flawed logic thinking that we're bent on soliciting donations. 8| It's a consideration sometimes but we're not as money-grabbing as we've been made out to be recently.

130x is barely "abysmal" imo but regardless, we're discussing it right now (started a couple of days ago with the other thread in here). I wanna say though that I find it a little bit bizarre that supporters are always the ones complaining about this when I've never actually seen a regular user ask for bigger avatar sizes.

i'm sorry if it's been implied that staff gain a reward from donations that's certainly not what i've ever thought

I don't believe we ever stated that the staff is making a profit off of the donated money /: I believe the topic is moreover just suggesting "hey, this is the current starting size for normal users - let's see if we can change the baseline to a larger dimension size."

The "entice donations" part is moreover to convince people to support the site and pay for it's maintenance costs, not the $$ staff part you wrote. Bit of a misunderstanding I think ): Unless I missed something in my absence where people are really out to get staff because they believe staff actually gets paid lol - that's unfortunate if people actually think that.
