Battle facilities

Trainer Tower, Battle Frontier, Pokemon World Tournament... Throughout the series there have been a lot of places where you can compete in in-game competitive battles. A lot of these scale down Pokemon level to 50 or offer Open Level challenges, where the opponent is matched with your highest-leveled Pokemon. Additionally, such facilities reward a winning player with a currency known as Battle Points (BP) which can be traded for items often unavailable anywhere else in the game.

What do you think of battle facilities? Do you like to participate in them a lot? What was the largest amount of BP you've ever saved up? And do you find it to be a reasonable offline alternative to online battling?

I am. Atrocious. At battle facilities. But I loved Emerald's Frontier like. It was interesting and a refreshing system after finishing the main game with traditional play. I've not found anything that was quite so exciting as Eme's Frontier. Maybe now that I know more about the metagame I'll have more fun with postgame facilities but I'll actually have to finish a game with one of them again to find out lmao.

I've only ever participated in them to earn BP so I can buy items that have competitive uses such as Weakness policy and items for EV training like the Power Bracers. They're a fun way to kill time and it lets you practice your competitive strategies to some extent but the AI isn't very smart and its nowhere near as good as a good player can be. That being said, it's a darn lot better than the people out there who use six legendaries without any sort of EV training because "they look cool" :P

Don't worry, so am I. It's more because most people at any battle facility are cheating bastards but still, I haven't really gotten anywhere on anything except the Battle Maison in OR/AS where I have a whole team of IV/EV trained pokémon that wreck everything.

The only real use I did with battle facilities was grinding up BP to buy TMs and items. I am someone who can't stand the constantly cheating AI though.

I have a lot of fun with them! Especially the Battle Frontier in Emerald. I think my favorite had to be the Battle Pyramid. Not really sure why, I just really liked the sense of adventure that one had.

Yeah, the Pyramid was my favorite as well. I think it was the hardest out of all the seven facilities because you had no healing interval and make use of what items you find; whether to battle trainers or to avoid them was your decision to make too. But the feeling that you get when you finally reach the top is very rewarding, and only entices you to take the challenge again.

I don't care for them at all. I tried the Battle subway once, but the trainers Oshawott held a wacan berry. So I gave up there. And who at Game Freak thought it was a good idea to activate more post game content in Pokemon X and Y by participating in the Battle maison? I hope they do not do this again in Gen 7

I've participated in a few battle facilities before, and even managed to gather a couple of symbols, but unfortunately, like some of us here, I've never been too big on them, as they didn't manage to draw my interest too much.

For the most part the various battle facilities across the games have felt very dry and boring to me. The only exception to this ins in BW2. I loved the PWT and Black Tower/White Treehollow! The PWT was just so amazing, being able to battle my way through gym leaders from all generations and then face the best of the best (the champions). I will seriously never forget playing the champion tournament. Not to mention all the cool remixed battle themes you get to hear! And the Black Tower, while somewhat boring, did manage to hold my interest because of how useful it was as a training mechanism. I couldn't tell you the number of times I walked through that thing training various Pokémon.

But let's be real for the most part these things tend to suck. ORAS I'm lookin' at you.

I've never been hugely into them, mostly because I'm not very good at them, but that's beginning to change (the being interested part not the being good part)! I've recently begun to explore and research the different facilities and I really like what I'm finding. I have to say the Battle Frontier is rather impressive and I get why people long for it to return now! I'd like the PWT to return and updated with gen 6 characters and real life winners.

I like battle facilities, since they give me a good challenge, especially the ones in Platinum, HG/SS, and Emerald.

Actually I just thought, wouldn't it be cool to have the PWT as a standalone spinoff game? Probably an eShop title only, but it could be fleshed out and updated with each gen and after each real life World Championships!

A Stadium/Revolution-style system would be the best fit for a spin-off game like that! It sounds pretty neat; you could even have battle formats ("modes") that mirror those of the Battle Frontier facilities (ie. randomized options like rental Pokemon or the ability to set up your own 'mons) and use your BP to unlock more features or special Pokemon. To top it all off, it can have online multiplayer where you battle against others in chosen formats .
