[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13

Badge?

( Since you didn't type Brock giving me a badge, I'm assuming you want me to. I don't want to make a mistake again like last time. -__-; )

During all of the celebrating Rini never noticed Brock walk up to her and grasp her hand.

"Huh?" she looked up, blushing deeply. She then felt something placed into her open palm. "What?"

"As gym leader of Pewter City I hearby give you Rini the Boulder badge. Congrats." Brock smiled warmly. "And to you as well Metapod."

Metapod tackled Brock in her over-eagerness.

Rini giggled lightly, then laughed all out. "Yes!" she tossed the badge into the air, and caught it behind her back. "One Boulder Badge!"

Oddish huffed lightly and Pidgey smiled.

Rini walked over to help Brock up and remove her hyper Metapod. "Metapod return! You too Pidgey!"

Oddish sniffled lightly, and Brock pointed over the girl's shoulder.

"Huh?" Rini glanced back. "What's up Oddish?"

Oddish began to wail loudly.

Rini rushed over and picked her starter up. "Are you ok? Your not sick are you?"

"I think Oddish may be a little jelious and upset you didn't use her in our match." Brock suggested.

"Maybe...." Rini wondered, then she stroaked Oddish's leafs. "But I have super big plans for you at the next gym Oddish. I heard that gym leader uses water types. You'd be great there."

Oddish sniffled one final time then smiled.

"But before that, we have some major training to do. I want to make sure we're gonna be ready for all the tasks ahead." Rini pulled out a bluish like headband and wrapped it around the top of her head, after fastening her badge on first.

"Speaking of tasks ahead." Brock looked nervious. "I was talking to Officer Jenny earlier, and she gave me this to give you."

Rini took the offical looking paper from Brock and unfolded it.

Her eyes widened in shock. "Community service for distruction of public property......Great." she sighed.

Oddish snickered.

"I think you may have been around Metapod too much..."

@Rii - Nice post... community service. Ouch

Note - the title specifying the rarity of a pokémon refers to how hard a pokémon is to catch. i.e. a much better post is required to catch an uncommon pokémon than to catch a common pokémon.
How I level the pokémon you're catching will depend on how good your post is. When you're trying to catch a pokémon, you cannot decide if you catch it. When trying to catch a pokémon you have to finish your post off when you throw the pokéball and wait for my response telling you if the capture was successful or not. You cannot continue until you know that it was caught. In battles, I will level up your pokémon depending on the quality of your battle post.

OOC: sorry to nitpick, but you seem to have put up Spearow's moves for Pidgey.

"Okay, guys, what's the plan?"
"Poli, poli!"
"Beeeed..."
"Mankey, man"
Warren sighed. This was the problem with getting your Pokémon to strategise for you.
"Well, the way I've figured it out, we are screwed" His Pokémon looked at him despondently. But Warren grinned.
"So, we need someone new, right? Someone with an advantage over those Water types? Electric or Grass spring to mind, right?" His Pokemon exchanged glances, then nodded in unison. Warren clapped his hands.
"So, let's get hunting, then!"

"Pipi?" Warren growled, spinning around.
"Why are there so many fricking Pidgey around here?" he shouted to no one in particular. This expedition was meant to be helping, but so far all he'd managed to do was infuriate himself.
"Sprout?"
"GO AWAY!" Warren screamed, turning to the newcomer. But this wasn't a Pidgey. Instead, standing there was a walking plant. A Bellsprout. A Grass Type.
"Its finally time, Mankey!" he shouted, "Use Scratch!" The monkey leapt forwards and slashed at Bellsprout with its sharp claws, striking it across the face. The plant stumbled backwards, but righted itself and lashed out with a green vine that erupted from its right leaf. Mankey barely leapt over it as it struck out, but was snagged as Bellsprout whipped it back and wrapped it around Mankey's foot. Screaming, Mankey was thrown into the air but managed to grab a tree branch on the way up and quickly hid itself amongst the foliage. Bellsprout looked around nervously, but Warren just grinned.
"Low kick!" he shouted and Mankey flew down from a tree, landed silently behind Bellsprout, then swept away the unsuspecting plant's legs. It landed hard on its back and Warren smiled.
"Alright, Pokeball, GO!" he shouted, hurling the small sphere towards the Pokémon. It clicked open on contact and Bellsprout was sucked in with a flash of red light. Warren grinned as the Pokeball rocked from side to side. If he caught this Bellsprout, he'd be back at the gym in a flash to wallop Misty...

Kairi couldn't think of what to do next there wasn't too many places to catch her attantion here in Cerluen City. She was walking out of the Pokemon Center with Pikachu at her side when she ran into a man with a fishing rod,"Hey where did you get that fishing rod?" She asked him. The man pointed at the Pokemon Mart,"Cool, they have rods in there?" She asked.

The man nodded his head. Kairi decided that maybe it would be fun to go out on Route 24 and go fishing. She went and brought a fishing rod, and some bait and put all her fishing things in one of those boxes she brought that's used for storing fishing stuff.

Kairi then went down Route 24. She stayed there for hours, there was no bite,"What's going on here! Why aren't there any water Pokemon on this route!" Kairi started getting kinda mad, and just gave up on fishing. She decided to work on her Contest moves. She started with Pikachu.

"Ok, Pikachu a killer move for the battle part of the Contest. You'd be moving so fast that your foe won't have time to move. But first I must level you up high enough to learn Volt Tackle and Quick Attack. See, that's my plan Pikachu to conbind Quick Attack and Volt Tackle together, to make an unstoppable move," Kairi explained. Pikachu nodded it's head.

"Ok, we need to have a battle that would be very hard to win. Like that Shiny Bellsprout over there," Kairi said pointing,"Would be too hard to catch, but were not catching it. Were just going to battle it."

"Bell?" The Shiny Bellsprout woke from it's nap. She had been sleeping and didn't like being woken up. Bellsprout sent a Vine Whip towards Pikachu. "Pikachu! Watch out!" Kairi screamed. Pikachu ran around the vines.

"Good. Now tackle it!" Kairi called. Pikachu tackled the Shiny Bellsprout into the ground. She just leaned over, grabbed Pikachu with her vines and just body slammed him into the ground. Even though it didn't know Body Slam it was sure slamming Pikachu around a lot.

"Pikachu! No!" Kairi screamed. She had no choice, she threw a Poke ball hoping to catch it. The Shiny Bellsprout just slapped it away. The Poke ball fell into the water.

"Pikachu quick use Thundershock!" Kairi called. Pikachu screamed out. Thundershock didn't do anything as the Shiny Bellsprout was a grass type. Kairi didn't know that though. "Thunderwave!" She called. Pikachu used Thunder Wave. Still nothing happened.

Kairi kept changing between Thundershock and Thunder Wave. Pretty soon Pikachu was starting to get tried. Kairi then tried what she had done to catch her Nidoran. She threw water onto the Shiny Bellsprout. But that just made her stronger.

Just then though, her Pikachu started acting kinda weird. He had sparks coming from his cheecks and his face was all red,"Pikachu? Are you ok?" She asked him. Pikachu turned to Kairi, giving a evil look, it's eyes turned orange and it released a lot of very huge orange looking volts of lightning, shocking the Shiny Bellsprout over and over again,"Stop it Pikachu! You'll kill Bellsprout!" Kairi begged, tears coming out of her eyes. She ran forwards to stop Pikachu but a Poke Ball rolled out of her bag and hit the Shiny Bellsprout who by now was bleeding very badly and almost dead. She went into the ball, the ball started shaking,"NO!" Kairi screamed,"I didn't want to catch it. I just wanted to save it from being killed. I don't want a Bellsprout, even if it is a Shiny Bellsprout." Kairi watched the ball as she thought,'Please don't catch it. Please don't catch it.'

Eggs are for the Birds

Rini sighed as she stumbled into her room at the Pokemon Center. She felt dead tired.... Literally.

Officer Jenny first had her clean the playground for the kiddies, then take tickets at a local police fund raiser, babysit a few unrualy baby pokemon for Nurse Joy, and finally pick up lunch for the Pewter City police station.

She collapsed onto her bed, and pulled her bag to her. Thinking it over she pulled the egg from her bag and looked it over.

"Let's see.... to hatch an egg needs warmth, it needs to be around active pokemon, and lots of care and gentleness. Hmmm.....I've been sleeping with it every night. I eat breakfast with it as well. And Metapod and Pidgey are hyper enough for a whole herd of Taros."

While she was mulling this over, she placed the egg on the bed and stared at it. She didn't notice when Pidgey let himself out of his pokeball.

"What to do...?" Rini mumbled, laying her head to the side.

Pidgey chirped and plopped himself atop the egg.

Rini stared, then burst out laughing. "You look like a proud papa Pidgey."

Pidgey chirped and got comfortable on the egg, deciding to take it upon himself to hatch it.

@Rii - Thats actually a really clever idea, hadn't thought of that. Good post.

@Konekodemon - Okay here goes:

'Kairi couldn't watch as the pokeball shook from side to side, so she turned away and noticed her pokeball floating down the river. She chased after it and picked it up. When she turned back around, she saw the shiny Bellsprout lying on the ground breathing heavily, and Kairi's Pikachu standing menacingly over it. Pikachu turned around and gave Kairi a look that caused her to drop the pokeball she was holding in shock. When the ball hit the ground a bright light was released, which eventually formed into the shape of a medium sized , sparkling, golden fish.

"How...?" Kairi asked surprised."'

"It's....it's a Magikarp. But it's a golden color. It's so cute," she said hugging it.

Magikarp kinda blushed a little,"Karp," he said with a grin. Pikachu was about to finish off the Shiny Bellsprout. Kairi recalled, her Shiny Magikarp, and ran over taking the shocks as they came and grabbed the Shiny Bellsprout just in time, saving her life,"Bell?" She asked confused. A human who wasn't even it's trainer had saved it's life. The Shiny Bellsprout was very greatful. To show how greatful she was she released one last Vine Whip just as Kairi was about to be shocked again and knocked Pikachu out.

Kairi put Pikachu in his Pokeball saying,"Sorry about this Pikachu."

She then turned to the Shiny Bellsprout to thank her, but she was knocked out and breathing very bad,"Bellsprout!" Kairi screamed. She hurried and took them both to the Pokemon Center. She found out that Pikachu had a bad fever from using too much electricty.

The Bellsprout was no better off. No one knew if it would live or not. Kairi gave it a Sirtus Berry,"I hope this works," she said. Bellsprout opened her eyes. She was all better. Then she was released outside.

***

By morning Pikachu was all better, and told Kairi that he was sorry for what he did,"That's ok Pikachu. It was my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you so hard," Kairi said hugging Pikachu. She and Pikachu then left the Pokemon Center.

The Shiny Bellsprout was waiting for her outside. She got on Kairi's shoulder and grinned,"I'm sorry but I don't want you Bellsprout. Your a nice Pokemon and all but your too weak," Kairi told her.

The Shiny Bellsprout showed a few tears as Kairi started walking away. It then followed her. Kairi turned around,"I said go home Bellsprout! Now leave!" She told her. "Bell!" The Shiny Bellsprout grinned as she continued following her. Kairi and Pikachu started running. The Shiny Bellsprout was right behind them

A bird and his trainer

Rini yawned, then turned to Pidgey. "You mind keeping an eye on the egg for me while I take a shower?"

Pidgey gave her a look that seemed to imply, 'Need you ask?'

Rini then tucked the sheets on her bed close to the egg, to add further warmth. She then picked it up. "Night, night eggy-poo." she kissed it's hard surface, and made a face as she realized what she had done.

Pidgy snickered fom his place on the bed where he'd hopped down after his trainer picked up the egg.

"I just gave an egg a good-night kiss. What's wrong with me?" She laughed and tucked the egg back into place, which Pidgey happily hopped back upon.

Rini then grabbed her bath supplies, her blue and yellow star pj's, and her berry scented shampoo. "Let's see..... Oh towel." she grabbed that too, slinging it over her shoulder.

A short time later. ( an hour ) Rini was finished with her shower and sit in a chair facing the window, brushing her hair out. "Tomorrow we're gonna be really busy Pidgey. Because I did so well with my community service Officer Jenny decided to let me off of the other two days."

Pidgey yawned, and chirped. He was only half listening, as he was almost asleep.

"I've decided we're gonna do some major training in Veridian forest before we head off to Cerilian City." Rini finished brushing her hair and fixed it back in a ponytail to sleep in.

Pidgey started slightly as Rini lifted him from his place. She then pulled both the egg and the bird under the covers with her. "Busy.... we have to work hard...everyone...." Rini barely managed to reach out to turn out the switch, located near the bottom bunk where she slept.

She was out in minutes.

(Laura's first successful capture will be on the next post. Well, as long as it's a good enough post, I mean)

Location: Route 2

Laura and Vulpix were continuing their way to Viridian Forest when a purple blur shot out of the tall grass, knocking Vulpix off her feet. "Aaahh! Another Rattata!" she screamed as she recognized the little Pokemon, but when she looked around, the Rattata mob wasn't anywhere to be seen.

"Hand over your Vulpix if you don't want her hurt!" a voice called in the direction the Rattata had come from. Turning her head, Laura saw a blonde women with a large 'R' across the front of her shirt.

Laura angrily accused, "You just had that Rattata attack Vulpix when she wasn't looking. That's cheating!"

"Well, duh! How else am I going to steal your Pokemon? You need to wake up, girl! Rattata, use Tackle before it can recover!" The purple rodent charged at Vulpix at full speed.

"Dodge and use Ember! Show them that they picked a fight with the wrong Pokemon!" Vulpix rolled to the side to avoid the Tackle, and as Rattata came back for another strike, she scorched it with a volley of fireballs, and it collapsed in a heap, a tiny flicker of flame of its head that made it look kind of like a candle.

"Oh, come on! Don't let that little wimp take you down!" the women yelled. "Use Quick Attack and Bite!" Rattata jumped back to his feet and menacingly opened his mouth to emphasis his sharp, gleaming teeth. He bolted toward Vulpix, his pace growing quicker with ever step until he was nothing but a streak of purple.

"Vulpix, stand your ground and use Roar!" Laura hastily ordered. It worked before so it could work again... Putting on her fiercest expression, Vulpix squarely planted her feet and rose her growl to deafening levels. Sliding to a stop a few feet from her, Rattata gave her one last nervous glance before running back to his trainer and hiding behind her legs.

"Get back in there, Rattata!" The woman picked up the rodent and prepared to through it back into the battle.

"Chase them off with one more Ember!" This time both Rattata and the trainer's head were engulfed in the flames, and when the smoke cleared, the Pokemon was out of commission and the woman's hair was on fire.

"Aaaaaa! My hair!" she screamed, running back in the direction of Viridian City, Rattata still in her arms.

"Be sure to use plenty of cream on those burns!" Laura called after her, but she was already out of sight. "Great job, Vulpix." After patting her proud Pokemon on the head, they entered Viridian Forest together, unaware that someone had witnessed their battle....

Early training

The next morning Rini awoke early, quickly dressed, and took care when placing her egg into her bag.

Pidgey took off into her bag after the egg, once she placed it in.

"Pidgey?" Rini thought it over for a second. "Nevermind, you stay in there and watch the egg."

Her bookbag.... err Pidgey chirped in response.

On the way out of the Pokemon Center Rini stopped in the cafe. She bought a quick breakfast of a berry and cream cheese bagle and a small glass of juice.

She then left for Veridian forest to do some more training. She knew the road ahead would only grow more difficult, so she had to prepare.

Rini stepped into the forest and looked around. There were signs of pokemon everywhere, though she saw none at the moment.

"Now where could a promising battle be?" Rini wondered as she came to a fork in the path. First she looked off to the right then the left. "Wow, I hope I don't get lost again." you could hear the sarcasim dripping in her tone.

Finally after much thought, and a coin toss. Rini decided on the left path. She walked in silence as she thought over what pokemon she might encounter once she left for Cerilian.

"Metapod!"

Rini almost walked past the wild pokemon who issued the challange, then she backtracked and grinned.

"About time I ran into something." she grinned, and thought over her choice. "Go Metapod!"

"Metapod!"

"Alright use tackle!" Rini pointed.

Metapod glanced back at her in confusion.

"What?" Rini asked.

Metapod rolled her eyes, and sighed.

"Oh yea, right...." she pulled another pokeball from her pocket. "Metapod return! Go Oddish!"

"Oddish, oddish!" the green plant chirped in eagerness, and turned to face her opponent.

"Attack with Sweet Scent!"

Oddish wafted the sweet smelling scent at Metapod who relaxed and looked almost dreamy.

"Now use Acid!" Rini called next.

"Oddish!" Oddish spit a strong acid like substance all over Metapod, who writhed slightly in pain.

Metapod then seemed to snap out of it and hardened it's shell.

"Now Absorb!" Rini yelled out her next command. "Keep that up til it faints."

A few absorbs and several shell hardens by Metapod and the bug finally had it and fell over. Rini walked over and placed the unconscious Metapod against the tree.

"There, you should be okay in a bit." Rini smiled and recalled Oddish. "What next?"

@namora - Nice post.

Congratulations Vulipx grew to Level 12

@Rii - Congratulations Oddish grew to Level 10

Once, on Route 5, Kairi decided to train her newly, caught Magikarp. She went to a pond on the route and said,"Come on out Magikarp!" Releasing the Shiny Magikarp into the water. "Now Magikarp go look for a water Pokemon, to fight."

Magikarp nodded his head and started swining down below. Kairi and Pikachu waited on shore, for Magikarp to re suface. It came back up with a weird looking egg. The egg was white and had strange markings on it. The markings were red and blue triangles.

The egg looked like this:
[PokeCommunity.com] [Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13
(The white one not the yellow one)

"What kind of egg is this. I better ask Professor Maple. Plus if I wanna keep it with me, I'm going to have to send one of my Pokemon back. But which one? I'll ask her that too?" Kairi then took the egg from Magikarp, recalled him into his ball, and walked back to Cerulen City.

Once at the Pokemon Center she called Professor Maple on the phone,"Hey, Professor I just found a Pokemon egg, with weird markings on it. I wanna keep it but I already have six Pokemon with me. I don't know which one I should send to you. I have Pikachu, Spearow, Nidoran♀, Butterfree, Jigglypuff and a Shiny Magikarp. Which one should I send to you? Anyone but my Pikachu." Kairi thought about it long and hard while Professor Maple sit there waiting for her to decide,"I know. I'll send you my Spearow." Kairi put Spearow's ball into the transfer. It then disappeared, and reappeared in Professor Maple's lab,"Ok, now that, that's taken care of, is there anything you can tell me about this egg, Professor?"

@Konekodemon - "Pokemon eggs... I'm sorry, but their not my area of specialty. All I can say is make sure you take really good care of that egg. Any damage to the egg could damage the baby pokemon inside, and stunt its growth. Also, remembaer that when the egg hatches, the pokemon will be a baby and can't be expected to battle right away. You will need to raise it a bit and let it grow before you battle it. Oooh, I can't wait to see what it hatches into. Make sure you call me when it does hatch. Okay?"

(Didn't say anything about the markings on it)

"Ok, bye Professor," Kairi said hanging up. She put the egg in her bag. Nure Joy walked up to her. I just heard. Here this will keep the egg warm," Nurse Joy said handing her a tob with a heater unit inside it.

"Thanks Nurse Joy," Kairi said. She took the egg out and put it in the tob, and turned the heater light on,"Hurry up and hatch little one," she said grinning at the egg.

She put it in her bag thinking,'I hope you'll be a cute Pokemon.' Kairi had always loved cute things. She then went back to do somemore training on Route 5. She no more then walked onto the route when a Meowth popped out,"Let's have our battle by the water ok," she told it.

The Meowth was a little confused, but oh well it didn't really care where it faught at.

Kairi then sent out her Shiny Magikarp, and the Meowth started to get why she wanted to battle near the water, cause a Magikarp can't move around on land. The battle then started.

"Magikarp Tackle attack!" Kairi called. Magikarp jumped out of the water into the air at Meowth. The Meowth jumped up as well and scratched the Magikarp's skin. That was a mistake, Meowth broke his claws on Magikarp's hard skin. Kairi got an idea,"Magikarp quick use Splash while your out of the water to bound up and down on top of Meowth!"

"Karp!" Magikarp said. He started bounding up and down on top of Meowth slaming it into the ground. Kairi started laughing. That looked so funny. "Now one last Tackle!" Kairi called. Magikarp on the way back down tackled the Meowth knocking it out. Meowth was going to have one major headache when he woke up.

"Great job Magikarp!" Kairi called. Pikachu cheered,"Pika pika!"

( I thought Metapod would have leveled up 1 from that last battle too, that's why I sent her out first was to gain experence. O.O )

Rini now walked around looking for more battles. That last one wasn't too tough, but she was looking for something a bit more challenging.

Suddenly something squeaked off to her right, and Rini followed the sound to it's source.

Three Caterpie were feasting happily on some late morning dew. They looked happy. Rini was almost tempted not to disturb them.

Almost....

"Go Metapod!" she flung her pokemon into their midst.

The Caterpie first looked surprised, then angry. The three Caterpie closed in on Metapod, making litle angry noises.

It sounded more cute then scary..... but still.

"Metapod harden." Rini smiled.

Metapod nodded, and her body glowed green slightly as she hardened her shell to rais her defenses.

One of the Caterpie rammed her with a tackle, causing the cacoon to wince. The two other Caterpie looked like they were gonna attack next.

"Metapod. Keep harding your shell." Rini had an idea, here's hoping it would work.

The two Caterpie attacked as one, both slamming into Metapod at the same time. It looked like it hurt pretty good, but Metapod still managed to stay upright.

"Keep it up Metapod. Just a little more...."

The three Caterpie nodded at each other and dashed in for the attack.

"Wait for it....." Rini reached a hand up to chew on her thumb.

Metapod smirked. She wasn't born yesterday after all. She had a good idea what her trainer planned, and was all for it. Espically if it put her that much closer to Butterfree.

Once the Caterpie were right up on Metapod Rini smiled. "Metapod fall over."

Now normally this would have been a bad idea, but seeing as Metapod fell over on the Caterpie it worked out alright. Plus the added fact that Metapod had kept harding her shell helped a lot as well.

When Metapod rolled to the side there were three knocked out Caterpie in her wake.

Metapod grinned and wiggled around as she was recalled. Rini then left a handful of poke' chow on the ground for each of the Caterpie before she left.

Rini walked for a little more finally deciding to leave the forest when she spoted a lone trainer in the forest. He was a littler older then she by appearence, and was bent over tying his shoe.

He grinned when he saw Rini approach. "Oh hi. Are you a pokemon trainer by any chance?" he asked, as he pulled a pokeball from his waist.

Rini grinned as she saw a challange in the making. "Sure am! I'm gussing you want a battle then?"

"Go Weepinbell!" he said as way of answer.

"Cool." Rini looked interested as she pointed her pokedex at it.

"Weepinbell the bell shaped pokemon. This is the evolved form of Bellsprout. This pokemon has a potent acid it uses to digest prey, which is even stronger in the evolved form Victreebell."

"Cool, this sounds fun then." Rini remarked as she pulled a pokeball from her pocket. "Go Metapod!"

"Free....." Buterfree chirped as she emerged. Evedentaly she had chosen to evolve in her pokeball as an attempt to surprise her trainer. Well it worked.

"Buterfree!?" Rini's jaw dropped.

"Noow that is one awesome looking pokemon you've got there." the boy remarked. "I'm Chad by the way."

"Rini...." she responded, still in awe of the butterfly pokemon fluttering around in circles around her head.

Chad laughed at Rini's shocked face. "Let me guess. She just evolved right?"

Rini only nodded in response, her eyes shining with happiness. "Wow, Butterfree you look so.... so...... beautiful!" she finally gushed.

Butterfree chuckled lightly and turned her body first from one side to the other. Then she smacked Rini in the face with her wing and laughed evily.

"I should have known evolution wouldn't change that attitude of yours." Rini sighed. "Fine.... Butterfree get ready."

"Free!"

Butterfree and Weepinbell faced off, each waiting for their trainers to call a move.
