"You might have taken out Bibarel," Danny called, "But I think we're going to surprise you! Me and Mankey have been doing some extra training since last time and it's really paid off! Mankey! Show them your new Aerial Ace!" Warren gasped as the primate leapt into the air, flying forwards with incredible speed. Venonat didn't even have time to squeak before Mankey collided with it, throwing backwards to land at its trainer's feet. Sighing, Warren returned the unconscious pokemon, looking at Rattata.
"I guess its one-on-one now, runt..."
"Aerial Ace again!" Danny yelled, grinning wildly. But this time, Warren smirked too.
"Quick Attack!" Charging at an incredible speed, the rodent smashed into the airborne monkey before it had begun to move, throwing it backwards. Warren chuckled.
"Aerial Ace is speedy and it's one hundred percent accurate, but short of an Arcanine with Extremespeed, nothing's faster than a Quick Attack from this Rattata! Now, Hyper Fang and finish with Tackle!" Mankey struggled to its feet as the rodent sprung forwards, latching her teeth onto her enemy's prominent nose. The pig monkey screamed and grabbed Rattata, throwing her indiscriminately into the air. Screeching with delight, the rat flew downwards, using the momentum to fuel a powerful Tackle. Mankey stumbled as Rattata connected with its skull, then slowly fell over, defeated.
"Alright! Nice work, Rattata!" Danny and Liv sighed as Mankey was returned and Warren walked over.
"Hey you did pretty well, y'know," Liv raised an eyebrow.
"What are you talking about? You completely destroyed us." Warren laughed nervously.
"Well, I wouldn't say that...just that I defeated you humiliatingly." The siblings rolled their eyes in perfect unison, then Liv stepped over to the side of the boat.
"Hey, you can see Cinnabar. We should be docking in less than an hour...nice Venonat, by the way. You must have been pretty lucky to get a shiny. I wouldn't have thought you'd want two bug types on the same team, though. Or did you box Beedrill?" Warren lowered his eyes as Liv rambled on. Suddenly, her chatter stopped.
"What? Did I say something?" Warren sighed.
"Well...as I was on the way to Fuschia, me and Beedrill got ambushed by this huge Grimer. I came out okay...but he didn't." Liv gasped as Warren continued.
"To top it off, I'm pretty sure that the Grimer belonged to someone, and that means that someone sent it after me."
"You mean Guy?"
"Guy...or possibly Misty. Maybe even the random biker who I'd beaten the crap out of Cycling Road." In spite of herself, Liv smiled.
"You really do make a lot of friends, don't you?"
"At least I don't go everywhere with my little brother!"
"Hey, guys!" The pair turned to Danny, who was standing over by the stairs.
"Once you've finished bickering, there's food downstairs and I'm hungry." Warren rolled his eyes.
"Fine, let's go. I guess the team could do with a bite to eat as well."
"All right guys, time for some food!" Poliwag, Rattata, Gastly, Cubone, Venonat and Bellsprout all appeared. Warren frowned as he noticed the strange expression on the grass-type's face.
"Hey, Bellsprout, what's up?" it looked up, confused, then grinned. Warren gasped as slowly it began to glow, becoming brighter and brighter until it was a shining white light sitting on the table. Everyone else had stopped to watch. In front of their eyes, Bellsprout's head grew, becoming larger and larger until it was larger than the rest of its body. Next, its body shrunk, shortening to a tiny stem on top of its head and the two leaves moved down to the sides of its face, growing broader and longer. Finally, the glow faded, revealing a new pokemon.
"Weepinbell?" Warren gasped, looking at the thing sitting in front of him. It was, to be honest, quite hideous. Nevertheless, it was clearly a lot bigger and stronger than before.
"Bell, bell?" It questioned in its new, deeper voice as the other diners returned to eating. Warren shook his head, understanding instantly.
"No, once you evolve to Victreebel, you can't learn as many moves. If you stay as a Weepinbell for a little longer, it will benefit you in the long run." The plant nodded sagely, though a little sadly. Suddenly, a loud voice came over the tannoy.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we will be docking in Cinnabar in approximately twenty minutes. The canteen will now be closed. Can all passengers please gather their belongings and prepare to disembark." Warren groaned.
"I didn't even get a chance to eat!" Liv laughed.
"Our parents live on Cinnabar, actually. If you want, we could go scrounge some food off them." Warren grinned.
"I like the way you think!"
