[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13

Sam stood up after his rest. They still needed to keep moving. He had a gym to get to before sun down. He walking forward, he wondered how much longer he'd be waiting. The gym was about 2 miles away. About 2 hours walk at the rate Sam felt like going. He'd get there soon enough. He was still moving when he saw something. Sludge. Sam felt a little bit of barf move up in his throat. That was disgusting. Still, it looked like it was killing the enviroment. Sam walked that way to stop whatever it was. Sure enough, he saw them. 4 Grimer in his way. They split up and headed in seperate directions, meaning Sam would have to track them all seperately. "Great..." Sam said, walking after the first. It was hittng a Koffing with pound when Sam caught up. The Koffing had floated away as Sam said, "Okay! Let's do it, Pidg!" Pidg came out of its pokeball and flapped its wings, kicking up some dust. The Grimer turned around and shot mud at Pidg, who was hit squarely in the wing. "Pidgo!" Pidg yelled, charging in with Aerial Ace before Sam could say anything. Sam was pretty sure Pidg was mad at the thing. "Calm down, Pidg. Now, use your Quick Attack!" Sam said, causing Pidg to stop its attack. "Pidgo!" Pidg cried, charging faster this time. Grimer tried to use Pound again, but it was too late. Pidg hit it perfectly. Grimer flew backwards, but not much. It seemed a little annoyed at this point. "GRIMAAAH!!!" Grimer yelled, slapping lots of mud up at Pidg's face. Pidg was hit and seemed really annoyed. Its keen eye ability stopped it from losing accuracy, so not much happened here. "Go for it! Aerial Ace!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew down, hitting Grimer on the side. It started to shrink until Sam couldn't see it. Pure sludge, now. "Good work, Pidg!" Sam said, petting Pidg's feathers.

Sam then followed another path until he saw another Grimer, sitting in a river. Probably the only one for miles. This was no good. It was probably destroying the water's freshness with its disgusting sludge. Still, if anyone could take it, it was him. "Go! Gyara!" Sam yelled.
The Grimer turned around, surprised at the large pokemon behind it. "Go for it! Dragon Rage!" Sam yelled. Gyara shot a small purple laser from its mouth, hitting Grimer. It flinched in pain, but nothing more. "GRIMERR!" Grimer cried, hitting Gyara with a pound attack. Gyara looked down at it. It hadn't hurt him at all. "Wow...Gyara's gotten strong! Thrash!" Sam yelled. Gyara smiled for a second, then charged in, hitting the Grimer with a lot of force. Grimer flew, but Gyara kept going. He hit it again and again, but then stopped. It took Sam a second to register what had happened before he remembered. Thrash confused the pokemon after some time. "Dang...bad move on my part. Well, we'll wait...WHOA!" Sam said, surprised by what had happened. Grimer had easily gotten up and kicked a mound of dirt at Gyara's face. Gyara had turned away, still flailing about, only to be hit by a cloud of purple gas. "Huh. Not bad for a Grimer. Gyara! Snap out of it and use your Tackle, then Bite!" Sam yelled. Gyara shook his head and lunged forward. It was still looking dizzy, but Sam knew it could keep it up. Grimer was hit, then crushed by Gyara's large fangs. "Grim! GRRRIIIIIIMMMMEEE!" Grimer screeched, obviously injured by the damage Sam had already done. "Yeah! Good job, Gyara!" Sam congratulated. Gyara smiled, but that wasn't the end of Grimer. It got up. "Gyara! Look...NO!" Sam yelled. But it was too late. Grimer had jumped up and pulled Gyara to the ground, and was now pounding it. "Grr! Last chance! Thrash, once more!" Sam yelled. Gyara understood. Throwing its weight about, it finally threw Grimer off. With a few more round of smashing it, Gyara was confused again. Sam as going to yell to make it snap out of it, but then he noticed something. Grimer was down, knocked out, and a fair distance from the river. "Good job!" Sam yelled, petting Gyara. Returning it to its pokeball, Sam went looking for the next one. This was really getting time consuming...

Sam followed yet another path, looking for the third. This one wasn't being all that bad. It wasn't doing anything to any pokemon Sam saw. Still...the thing looked...different from the others. It already looked injured. Almost...battled already. Looking around, Sam figured it out. A trainer was standing nearby, laughing. "No...pathetic. It wasn't worth the fight. Still. It doesn't look like...oh! Never mind. Found him. Yeah. I'm out. Dealing with him now," the trainer said, putting away a cell phone. "What did you do to that thing?" Sam asked. "Ha. I defeated it, that's what. You. You're Sam Sarube. They're looking for you. I'm here to take you back," the boy said, pulling out a pokeball. "Let's see how you do, then! Go Umbre!" Sam yelled, throwing out Umbre's pokeball. "Umbreon!" Umbre cried, coming out. "Damn. Kadabra! Take it. He looks strong, though, so beware," the trainer said. A Kadabra came out of his pokeball, looking strong. "Hm...Umbre! Use Shadow Ball!" Sam yelled. Umbre shot a black blob at Kadabra. "Use Confusion on yourself to get over it!" the boy yelled. Kadabra lifted its spoon and traveled over Umbre's attack, while its trainer laughed at Sam's attack. "You think you can beat me? Ha! You're pathetic! You should just give up and go home...what?!" he yelled, as he realized what Sam had been doing. While he sat there monolouging, Sam was moving his hand. This gave Umbre the command to move forward and hit Kadabra with Iron Tail. Kadabra, also laughing, was hit easily by the powerful attack, causing it to fly backwards. "Yeah! Now Pursuit!" Sam yelled, as Umbre charged, tackling Kadabra. "Grr! Stupid Umbreon! Eat this! Charge Beam!" the guy yelled. Kadabra shot a yellow-white beam of electricity at Umbre, who flinched. Kadabra then charged forward, firing it again. "Grr! Umbre! Use Quick Attack to get around it, then Shadow Ball, followed up by Iron tail!" Sam yelled. Umbre quickly ran around the attack and shot a black blob at Kadabra, who was hit and flew backwards at a rock, only to be smashed by Umbre's follow up attack. Sam smiled as Kadabra fell to the ground, now knocked out.

"Stupid kid...you're pathetic, I tell you! PATHETIC!" the guy yelled, sending out a Machoke. Sam quickly returned Umbre to its pokeball and sent out Pika. Pika sparked the air around it and quickly charged at Machoke. "Karate Chop!" the boy yelled. Machoke brought its hand down on Pika, who screeched in pain. Sam was sure Machoke would go for a follow up, but it seemed to stop. "What? Go! HIT IT!" the boy yelled. Machoke did nothing. "MOVE DAMN IT!" he yelled loudly. "You know...I think I just figured it out! Pika has an ability called Static. It sometimes paralyzes your pokemon...but only when they go for physical attacks. Like this! Slam!" Sam yelled. Pika leaned forward and knocked over Machoke, who was still having trouble moving. "Finish it quick! Thundershock!" Sam yelled. Pika released a small bolt of lightening. Machoke was zapped and fell over. "Wow...it still can't move? Time to hurry up and finish it off!" Sam yelled. Pika understood. It jumped backwards behind a rock. "Go for it!" the guy yelled, as Machoke finally got over the paralysis. It went in for another Karate Chop, cutting the rock in half. Sam smirked. This guy didn't see it coming. "Where's the Pikachu?" the guy yelled. "Hahahahahaha! Now! Spark Drive!" Sam yelled. Pika was covered in electricity coming from its cheeks, and it was charging. Machoke was hit by the powerful attack, causing it to fly backwards into a rock, knocking it out. "Damn it! You win. Just remember, Sam. I will defeat you and take you home. Remember my name, which is Kevin!" the guy yelled, running back towards town. "Okaay...odd. Well, I'm not far from the gym now," Sam said, walking forward. The gym was just over a hill. Walking forwards toward it, Sam saw just how hot that place was!

OOC: Is there any way I could teach Pika how to use Volt Tackle? It just seems like something he'd be able to use...

Kairi was just entering Cinnabar Island on the cruise ship that had sailed from Fushia City, getting her here. She had been on this journey for awhile now. Almost a year. She was now 13 years old. She was with Rose, her Gloom and Sparky her Pikachu. She heard that the gym uses fire type Pokemon. She figured maybe she'd be better off going with Star, her Staryu.

Anyway Kairi landed and decided to check out the Volcanic Path as she had to get though there to make it to the gym. She heard that a lot of wild Pokemon hang out there. And Ponytas have been known to be seen there as well. She wanted one of those very badly. It would make getting around a little bit easier. First she stopped by the PokeMart and brought some PokeBalls then went into Volcanic Path with her Pokemon. She'd have to be very careful though as the only Pokemon she had strong enough to take down a fire type was Star.

Kairi planned on using it to face down the Ponyta if she ran into one. Kairi let Star out of it's PokeBall to get it ready to take down any fire Pokemon they may run into. Kairi walked though Volcanic Path with her Pokemon following her. She wasn't watching where she was going and almost fell though a hole in the ground.

"Ah!" Kairi screamed. Star, Rose and Sparky pulled her back up,"Thanks you guys," Kairi sighed in relief. She then sit down on the ground for a few minutes to catch her breath from her near death experience. She then got up and continued on.

It started getting very hot. Kairi took out a towel and ran water on it, rubbing her face. Rose fainted from the heat, which only made since since she is a grass type. Kairi put her in her PokeBall so she wouldn't get hurt. She then continued on.

Just then Kairi heard something running very fast. She then heard someone scream. It was a Ponyta chassing a young boy about her age. "Get behind me!" Kairi told the boy. He jumped behind her. Kairi shielded the boy from the rampaging Ponyta. "Star! Use Water Gun!"

Star jumped up and spined shooting out Water Gun at the Ponyta stopping it in it's tracks. The Ponyta glared at Star. The battle had begun. The Ponyta used Ember attack. Even though it was a fire move it hurt Star a whole lot,"Oh no! Use Recover, Star," Kairi told it. Star used Recover getting most of it's heath back. The Ponyta neighed and shoot out Flame Wheel next which was much stronger then the Ember attack.

"Star! No!" Kairi screamed. Her Pokemon had gotten burned from that attack,"Use Recover again." Star used Recover to, recover it's wounds. But it was no use. It's burn kept on sapping away at it's HP. Kairi had to finish this and fast. She didn't know what to do. She didn't have any burn heals with her. She'd just have to make do using Recover.

The Ponyta then ran at Star using Tackle attack,"Use Rapid Spin, Star!" Kairi called out. Even with it's burn hurting it, Star still managed to use Rapid Spin. Both Pokemon hit each other head on, getting sent flying backwards. Star had taken more damage though as the Ponyta was much larger then it.

"I'll show you that bigger isn't always better Ponyta! Star, use Water Gun with all your might!" Kairi screamed out shaking her fists. Star jumped up spinning,"Ha!" It screamed very loudly releasing Water Gun with all it's might at the Ponyta. The Ponyta screamed painfully as the water hit it. It then used Flame Wheel again, this time knocking out Star.

"No!" Kairi screamed. She returned Star and turned to Sparky,"I'm counting on you buddy," she told him,"Pika!" Sparky said, sparks flying from his cheeks. He then faced the Ponyta who was already starting to get tried.

"Use Double Team, Sparky!" Kairi called. Sparky used Double Team making a lot of copies of himself. The Ponyta couldn't tell which of the Pikachus was the real one so it just guessed using Tackle attack. It hit one of the clones. It had it's back to the real one,"Sparky use Thunder Wave to paralyze Ponyta so it can't move!" Kairi told him.

Sparky screamed, releasing Thunder Wave onto the unepecting Ponyta which had it's guard down. Ponyta got paralyzed. It tried to turn around and use Flame Wheel but it was fully paralyzed on the spot. "Ok, now use Thundershock!" Kairi commanded. Sparky jumped up into the air and screamed out,"Pikachuuuuuu!" Releasing electricity into the Ponyta's body. It screamed painfully.

The Ponyta was starting to look very weak now. It wouldn't be too much longer before it fainted. "Ok, Slam attack," Kairi repiled. She didn't realize what a mistake that was though. Sparky jumped up and slammed down on top of Ponyta. But as he slid off his tail caught on fire,"Pika!" Sparky screamed painfully running around in a circle with his tail on fire.

"Oh! I'm so sorry, Sparky. I forgot about the flames on Ponyta's back," Kairi said rubbing the back of her head. The Ponyta laughed as it watched Sparky running around. Pretty soon though the fire went out. But that little move had caused Sparky to get burned as well.

Sparky's tail was very sore from the burn. His HP started being sapped away from the burn. But Kairi noticed that, the Ponyta was about to fall over,"Hang in there Sparky! Use one more Thundershock!" Kairi called. Sparky was too weaken to jump up in the air this time so he just released Thundershock where he stood at.

The Ponyta screamed as it finally fainted to the ground. Sparky then fainted from his burn as well. "Sparky!" Kairi screamed. She ran over and picked him up in her arms,"Are you ok?" She asked him,"Pika," he said weakly pointing to the Ponyta, reminding Kairi to catch it before it woke up and ran away,"Oh right! The Ponyta!" Kairi pulled out a PokeBall and threw it at the fainted fire horse. It was sucked inside in a flash of red light. The PokeBall then started shaking and blinking with a red light. Kairi, Sparky and the boy watched and waited.

DING! The PokeBall stopped shaking, Kairi had caught the Ponyta. The PokeBall then disappeared going to Professor Maple's lab. "Are you ok?" Kairi asked the boy,"Thanks a lot," he said thanking Kairi,"Your welcome. Just be more careful from now on," she informed him. "I will," the boy said. He waved at Kairi as he walked off. Kairi then stopped for a while to let herself and her Pokemon rest, from that long battle with Ponyta. Sparky and Star were very tried. Kairi then had lunch. She gave her Pokemon there lunch as well. Kairi was now getting so hot she had to change into something cooler. She put on her bathing suit. It was blue with pretty flowers pictures on it. Kairi decided to leave and head back. After all she had to train some for the Grand Festival which lay ahead since she had all the Ribbons she needs now. Kairi went back to the Pokemon Center. She healed up her Pokemon and started doing a little bit of training. She let Butterfree out of his PokeBall,"Wanna do some training for the Grand Festival?" She asked him. Butterfree nodded his head yes. He flew up into the air,"Ok, use Gust and String Shot!" Kairi told him. Butterfree shot up Gust and shot strings though it. The attack raised the String Shot into the air and off into the distense. "Great job!" Kairi cheered for her Pokemon. Her Pokemon were in great shape she'd win the Festival for sure. She spent the rest of the day training her Pokemon for the Festival. She then went back to the Pokemon Center and had dinner and went to bed. The next day Kairi got up and got her Pokemon ready to go. She got on the ship heading back to Pallet Town. The Grand Festival was still a few months away and Kairi planned on doing somemore training at home.

slls81: Kinda short I know. Sorry, that's all I could think of right now. Next post will be longer.

Sam slowly walked to the door. Here he was, the Cinnabar gym. Now in a volcano. "Alright, let's make sure we're ready. Come on out, everyone!" Sam yelled, throwing out 5 pokeballs. Igglybuff was already out, but all his others quickly appeared. They looked tired. Sam pulled out some heal cubes and tossed one to everyone. After a couple of minutes, they all looked better and ready to fight. "Good, guys. Now. Ready to go kick some fire type butt?!" Sam asked. All the pokemon but Vulpix, who seemed offended cheered. "Oops. Sorry, Vulpy," Sam said, petting Vulpix. He looked up, then smiled, ready to go now. Sam tried to touch the metal door. "OWWW! HOT!!!" Sam yelled at the top of his lungs. High temperatures plus metal equaled not a good idea. "Hm...better ideas...oh. Duh! Kick it!" Sam said, kicking the door. He hadn't realized that it wasn't the kind of door you pulled the first time. It flew open and crashed into a rock wall. "Ouch. Hope its a sturdy door," Sam said, quickly returning all his pokemon. He walked further in. Now he was in a hot room. He looked around for the cause. He quickly found it. All the lava sitting around it. "Ouch. Doesn't look like much could survive that. Still, with this guy, Blaine..." Sam whispered to himself. He was about to go looking when a voice boomed,

"Who dares enter this sacred place of flames?" it demanded.

"My name is Sam. I come to challenge this gym," Sam said, scared by the sudden noise.

"Oh...that's all? Sheesh, you're no fun. Fine. Coming down," the voice said. An old man came out of a nearby door. "My name is Blaine. Sorry I scared you. Anyway, you sure you're up for this?" he asked, pulling out a pokeball.

"Yes. Now, let's do it, Vulpix!" Sam said, assuming Vulpix would be enough.
"Hm! A wonderful specimin of Vulpix! Similar to this! Ninetails!" Blaine yelled, throwing out a pokeball. A huge, golden fox, which seemed powerful.

"Huh. A Ninetails. Vulpix's evolved form. I wonder...go! Use Confuse Ray!" Sam yelled. Vulpix charged forward, as its eyes quickly turned blue. Sam could see Blaine was about to give a command, but he wasn't quick enough. Vulpix's small size had given it an easy advantage. Ninetails's eyes changed color and it started flailing about.

"No! Ninetails!" Blaine yelled, annoyed by how easy Sam had confused it. Sam saw his chance. "Go for it with Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Vulpix charged under Ninetails's body. It was confused, so it took a blow only to fall face first onto the ground. Vulpix jumped up and tackled it from above. "Ouch! Your Vulpix is fast! Much more so than my Ninetails. Still, you don't have our power. Observe! Flamethrower!" Blaine yelled.

Ninetails shook its head to get rid of the confusion. Its eyes changed back to normal as it shot a huge jet of flame. Sam was about to give Vulpix a command to run around it and hit, when he remembered something. Flash Fire. Ninetails's attack flew over Vulpix, but did nothing. "What?!" Blaine yelled.

"You're the fire gym leader, right? Then you know why Vulpix took no damage, right?" Sam asked.

"It shouldn't be possible to avoid it!" Blaine screamed.

"Yeah, it should. Vulpix's flash fire ability. Don't you remember it? Its your Ninetails's ability, too. Why do you think I didn't use flames? Now go! Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Vulpix flew forward, tackling Ninetails again. This time it fell over, as Blaine seemed to realize something.

"Wait. You're not the only one with Quick Attack! Use it, Ninetails!" he yelled. Ninetails moved quickly, at the same speed as Vulpix. Sam knew an easy way to dodge it, though.

"Roll! Right under it!" Sam yelled. Vulpix got on its side and rolled under, easily evading Ninetails's attack and getting in perfect position. "Now! Kick straight up!" Sam yelled. Vulpix shoved its small feet at Ninetails's stomach, causing it to cough, then collapse. "Now! Use Hypnosis!" Sam yelled. Vulpix jumped in front of Ninetails. It tried to get up, but it couldn't move. Vulpix's eyes glowed purple, putting Ninetails to sleep.

"No! The Vulpix knows hypnosis!" Blaine yelled, stating the obvious.

"Yep! Now use Quick Attack once more!" Sam yelled. Vulpix charged forward, hitting Ninetails once more. Ninetails stumbled, and fell over.

"Not bad! You beat a Ninetails with a Vulpix! Impressive. Now. My true pokemon, well, follow me. I save him for battles where I lose Ninetails," Blaine said, leading Sam through a door. They walked up what seemed like an endless flight of stairs. When they emerged, Sam was shocked. They were on top of the Volcano. Lots of stone pillars. This was going to be the true battle, Sam could feel it. "Okay! Magmar!" Blaine yelled, tossing another pokeball. A huge pokemon came out and stood on a stone pillar.

"I could use Vulpix, but he's a bit young for this type of fighting. Gyara doesn't have any water moves and Pidg won't be able to take that kind of extreme. Umbre might fall, but his attacks would work. Nah. There's only one pokemon for this! Pika!" Sam yelled, throwing out Pika's pokeball. Pika emerged, shocking the air.

"Ah! A Pikachu. If that doesn't bring back memories...well, do it, Fire Punch!" Blaine yelled. Magmar lunged forward, but was easily evaded by Pika's speed.

"Go for it! Thundershock!" Sam yelled. Pika shocked Magmar from below as it fell. Magmar flew and fell. Right into the lava. "Will it be alright?!" Sam asked.

"Heh...you'll see...Go! Fire Punch!" Blaine yelled. Magmar flew out of the pit covered in lava. It aimed straight for Pika's head. If Pika's reactions weren't so good, it would have been destroyed. "Now! Faint Attack!" Blaine yelled. Magmar suddenly faded out of view. Sam was about to yell to Pika, but it was too late. Pika was hit and flew backwards, landing on top of another piller.

"Okay then. Its in view again. Pika. We're going to have to be very careful about this, got it? Magma is like really really hot water, in other words, you can carry a shock through it. All you have to do is get it boiling so that it flies up enough that you can use it. Now! THUNDERSHOCK ON THE LAVA!" Sam yelled. Pika shot a huge bolt of electricity down. For a second, it looked like it did nothing, but then that quickly changed. The lava boiled and came up in waves. It splashed up right as Pika was ready. "Now Thunder Wave!" Sam commanded. Pika shot out a wave of static electricity, which slowly made its way to Magmar. With lava flying everywhere, there was no escape from Sam's attack, which stopped Magmar in its tracks. "Now! Thundershock!" Sam yelled. Pika shot a bolt of electricity at Magmar. It was hit, but them something happened. It moved forward faster than Sam or Pika could see, hitting Pika with a dangerous attack of Fire Punch. It quickly followed up with another and Ember. Sam realized what had happened. Blaine had been doing the same thing he did. Magmar was never paralyzed. It was all a trick. Sam slapped his head as Magmar used Ember. Pika jumped backwards and started falling. Sam quickly gathered his thoughts and had an idea. "Go for it and use Quick Attack and Thundershock! Spark Drive!" Sam yelled. Pika understood and started dashing. Before it hit the lava, it was charging over it, easily dealing with the heat. Then, charging up a piller, it tackled Magmar, who flew next to Blaine on a piller. Pika landed as Magmar stood up. It looked ready to fight, but then fell. Sam breathed a sigh of relief. He had won.

"Not bad, Sam. Here, take this as a sign of your victory, the Volcano Badge!" Blaine said, walking back over to Sam and handing him the badge.

"Thank you, Blaine. I have a favor to ask of you, though. My Vulpix has always been a weaker pokemon of mine...I was curious. Could you take me on as a temporary apprentice to help me teach my Vulpix?" Sam asked.

OOC: I hope this is alright. Its up to you, but all it would be is a little bit of training out in the fields under Blaine's supervision...or something like that. It would only be Vulpix, by the way.

@Konekodemon - Genuinely, I'm not doing a grand festival. If you dont want to be part of the league please stop posting.

@Sasuneuchiha - Nice post, erm I guess that could be okay since you are the furthest on in the RP.
Congratulations Vulpix grew to Level 19
Congratulations Pika grew to level 24

"Gastly, come out!" Warren frowned as he stared into the dark cave leading into the volcano. The ghost emerged, hovering silently by his side.
"This is looking kinda spooky. Do you mind staying out for a while?" Gastly nodded, floating forwards. He slowed as something stirred within the cave. Suddenly, a jet of flame burst out of the cave, striking Gastly in the face. Warren gasped as the ghost flew backwards, badly burned.
"Quickly, return!" he shouted and Gastly was sucked back in. Warren stared into the cave as a dark shape moved in the depths, coming forwards to reveal a large, red Pokemon with a bulbous head. Flames still danced in its bill.
"Magmaaar?" It growled angrily and Warren gulped.
"Cubone, Bone Club!" he shouted, releasing the small rodent. Charging, Cubone leapt at Magmar and swung his club wildly, but stopped. Looking up, Cubone's eyes grew wide as he realised that Magmar had easily caught his club with just one hand. Drawing back the other fist, Magmar wreathed its hands in flames, then thrust forwards, smacking into Cubone's stomach. Warren returned his second pokemon as the scent of burnt fur wafted towards his nostrils. Magmar stepped forwards, both hands now alight and Warren gritted his teeth. This looked bad.
"Magmar, stop it! Get back here!" Warren's eyes doubled in size as the flaming Pokemon turned and plodded backwards to stand at the side of a bald man who looked like he was in his fifties, though it was difficult to tell due to the sunglasses obscuring his eyes. He scratched his scalp as he looked at Warren.
"I hope my Magmar didn't give you too much trouble. It's a little temperamental, I'm afraid and doesn't like people entering uninvited. I suppose you're a challenger, yes?" Warren gritted his teeth.
"That was the plan, before your flaming duck went and KO'ed two of my best fighters by sneaking up on us and attacking in the dark!" Blaine laughed.
"If your Pokemon are so easily defeated, perhaps you shouldn't be challenging me at all." Warren spat on the ground.
"I doubt that coward will fare so well in a proper fight. You know, where we see it before it attacks."
"You can doubt as much as you want, it doesn't change the facts." Blaine replied in a mocking tone, "If you still want to battle, then follow me. If you're afraid to get burned, then I'm sure that the Pokecentre in town has a nice soft bed waiting for you." With that, he turned and strode off into the tunnel, the flame on Magmar's tail lighting the way. Warren frowned, but followed reluctantly, dropping his hand to Poliwag's Pokeball. The tadpole was a staunch fighter, but it might not be able to take down all of Blaine's Pokemon on its own. Slowly, a light at the end of the cave grew and Warren gasped as he entered a huge cavern with a large slab of stone in the centre, a crude battlefield painted on it. To either side of the plateau, the cliffs dropped sharply into a dark pit. Sweat broke out on Warren's forehead as he realised that the floor was scorching hot. A bead of sweat dropped onto the slab of stone and it sizzled gently as it hit. Blaine laughed as he saw Warren's face.
"There's a pipeline of lave running right below this battlefield. It heats the entire room to a nice toasty warmth, don't you think?" Warren grimaced.
"Actually, it's a bit cool for my liking," he spat viciously, "But enough talk. What type of battle are we having anyway?"
"Typical league rules. Two-on two. I'll start with Ninetales." Blaine threw his first Pokeball and a white fox with a multitude of tail and glowing red eyes erupted from the ball. It glanced at Warren and gave off a noise half-way between a growl and a purr. Warren frowned.
"Alright, Poliwag, it's down to you now!" The tadpole emerged, hopping from foot to foot in a strange war dance. Warren frowned, tempted to smack it, then gasped as he realised that the scorching floor was burning its feet.
"Quick, Water Sport!" he shouted and Poliwag leapt into the air before spraying down powerfully, covering the floor with water. Ninetales got slightly wet, but simply shook its coat in annoyance. More to the point, a hue clouds of steam covered the entire field and Poliwag landed in a dense fog, but able to stand safely on the floor.
"Ninetales, Quick Attack!" Poliwag squealed as it was barged, hard, by the running fox. Blaine laughed.
"Ninetales are extremely intelligent, so it's easily able to hit your Poliwag even when your smoke screen is up. Or should I say, steam screen!" Warren rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, you're hilarious. Poliwag, Hypnosis!"
"Safeguard!" Poliwag's spiral spun, but Ninetales seemed completely unaffected. A faint green glow played over its fur, but it didn't seem to be moved even slightly. Warren growled angrily.
"Fine, we'll attack directly then. Water Gun!" Poliwag fired a powerful jet of water and Ninetales was struck dead on. Bracing itself, it managed to stay on its feet, but the water drove it backwards, its feet digging furrows into the loose gravel.
"Then we'll fight fire with fire, literally! Flamethrower!" This time Poliwag was thrown backwards as it was engulfed in a stream of red and orange flames. Warren just laughed derisively.
"Flamethrower against a water-type? How did you even become a Gym Leader, Blaine? Sulk until the league gave in?" Blaine raised an eyebrow.
"I wouldn't be so confident if I were you. The typing is against me, but your Poliwag is weak, whereas Ninetales is powerful." Sure enough, Poliwag was clearly struggling. Nevertheless, it struggled back to its feet, growling tenaciously. Warren frowned. Flamethrower was seriously dangerous, while Water Gun just wasn't hitting hard enough. He had to swing the scales somehow...that was it!
"Poliwag, use Rain Dance!" he shouted and Poliwag hopped from foot to foot, spinning in circles and rolling on its tail. Blaine guffawed loudly.
"Are you an idiot? We're inside a mountain. How is any rain going to get in here?" Warren thrust his arm to the ceiling.
"This isn't just any mountain, this is a volcano! And volcanoes, as a rule, generally have a hole in the top!" Blaine gasped as the first drop of rain fell through the opening at the peak, landing right in front of him. It was immediately followed by hundreds of others, cascading down in a shower that drenched most of the battle field.
"Now, use Water Gun!"
"Flamethrower!"
Poliwag and Ninetales both charged, one firing a veritable cascade of water and the other a thin jet of flame. For a second, they battled in the centre, before the water broke through, quenching the fire and smashing Ninetales backwards. Slowly, it struggled to its feet. One more move could finish this.
"Quick Attack!" Blaine yelled, searching for an escape and finding nothing. Warren grinned.
"Finish with Doubleslap!" Ninetales charged, but ground to a halt as Poliwag's tail smacked into its jaw. It rocked back, unsteadily, the fell as a second blow crashed down on its head. Blaine gasped as his beautiful fox lay silently in the water, its slowly rising and falling ribcage the only sign of life.
"I guess I underestimated you," Blaine called as he returned Ninetales, "That Poliwag is surprisingly tough for such a runt. But it won't be enough to beat my best Pokemon...Magmar, let's go!" Warren frowned as the flaming duck...thing appeared, flames already trickling out of the corners of its mouth.
"Use Faint Attack!" Magmar disappeared and Poliwag gasped. Seconds later, Magmar appeared behind the tadpole and quickly brought down its fists on Poliwag's head. It squeaked loudly, stumbled, then fell. Warren gasped. In just one hit, Poliwag was out of it. Cubone and Gastly were both too hurt to battle, while Weepinbell and Venonat were both at a distinct disadvantage. That only left...
"Elekid, don't make me regret this!" Warren called, throwing the electrical Pokémon's ball. The small pokemon emerged, its arms wind milling furiously. Blaine smiled.
"It looks a little weak compared to Magmar. I hope you haven't made a very big mistake..."

The boat was arriving into the harbour of Cinnabar Island, where the town was placed next to a volcano which had ash clouds coming out of the top. The volcano which was next to the town looked incredibly rough to climb, luckily they didn't have to since there was a tunnel to cross instead. In the town, they could see a few buildings from the boat, some where a lot bigger than others.
Sean was trying to see if he could notice his house somewhere in this landscape, but it was quite hard to spot it in front of so many others. So, he pointed to a group of houses which his house was around.
"Look, Natasha! There's my house! Wow, I remember being there a few months ago, and now I'm here, coming back." he started to savour the moment, when he was coming back to his home town. Natasha smiled back at him to show that she was interested. "Oooh, good. Let's check it out later." indeed she was interested, and was suprised to see he lived in such a cool little place.
Finally, they arrived at the docks, and the boat had stopped moving. Growlithe, who was sitting on the decks had got up, as did Vulpix who Natasha called to stand by her. They all walked off the decks of the boat, and onto the docks, where they both had left the boat. When they were about to leave the docks, a man in a white jacket and white trousers had welcomed them. He seemed to have black glasses on too, as if he looked like a blind man.
"Hello there! Welcome to Cinnabar Island! I am Blaine, the island's Gym Leader." they both smiled and accepted his welcome and had shaken his hand. Both Sean and Natasha had introduced themselves to him too.
"Hi Blaine, it's cool to see you. I'm Sean. This is my hometwon, by the way," Sean introduced himself, and had tried to seem cool and casual as normal. Then Natasha introduced herself, "And I'm Natasha, I'm from Lavender Town." she also made herself relaxed, while blaine chuckled in return.
However, if he was the Gym Leader, then where was the Gym? Sean couldn't see it, and wanted to know for when he needed to, "So, where's the Gym?" Blaine smiled deeply, and explained things.
"Ah-hah. See that volcano over there?" he pointed to the volcano which was right beside the town. The both nodded and he carried on, "That's the Volcanic Path. Deep in there, you will find some Pokemon along the way, until you reach my Gym. There will be a big challenge there though, I'm not so easy." when he finished his sentence, Sean didn't mind as he had already done 6 Gyms, all of which were not so hard, although this was his second-to-last one to do, therefore it would clearly be hard.
Growlithe made a bark in perkiness, as it wanted some attention. Blaine looked down to notice that he had a Growlithe, this made him even more happy.
"Oooh, a Growlithe. Great choice of a Pokemon, can't wait to see it as a big Arcanine. Shame mine is currently not with me." he did sound a bit disappointed at the end, but he was alright.
"Yep, it's mine. And that's Natasha's Vulpix." Sean pointed to Vulpix, who looked at them in a shy way. Blaine was once again very interested in the Fire-type Pokemon they had been using.
"Wow, you both really have a good taste in Pokemon choices, I'll tell you that. My Ninetales is with me right now, you shall see it in our Gym Battle later on." he tried not to stroke Vulpix, since he knew about the curse. Natasha was honoured to be complimented by one of the best Gym Leaders in Kanto.
After the conversation, Sean wanted to check out the island in as little time as possible. He wanted to check out everything that's new before doing anything important. "Alright, shall we go to my house then, Natasha?" he turned his head back to her, she nodded in return.
"Well then, I'll best get home too. Just to have a break and all, ya know." They all said goodbye to each other, and had both went down the long path to the estates.
Walking down the road was like another day going to the corner shop to get some milk for Sean, it had all came back to him. He had missed it all alot, and was very excited to see his family again. However, in the estate were so many houses that had mainly belonged to rich people or tourists, Natasha wanted to know where his house was, "Sean, where's your house out of this huge estate?" she didn't sound impatient, but wanted to know where his house was. "It's somewhere over there." he pointed to a street which looked like an alley, then headed over.
Through the alley was a big shortcut to the street where his house was. They were then on the street of his house, and Sean had already started to look at it, remembering it from when he had left to start on his journey.
"There." he pointed to it, and the white-framed windows. Natasha liked it and had thought it was classy, "Wow."
They then had reached the door, and Sean had knocked to be polite to his parents. There was an answer to the door, it was his Mum who he had missed for ages.
"Oh my! Sean!! You're back!" she gave him a hug and kiss on the side of the cheek, then Natasha had also been greeted by her.
"And I'm guessing you've found a girl along the way? Get in there son." she was being so embarassing to him now, but she had tried to stop her embarassing him without embarassing Natasha, "Yeah, this is Natasha. She's awesome, we met in Saffron and travel together on this journey." she smiled and nodded, accepting the compliment.
"Well, why don't you both come inside and I'll put the kettle on. Please do." she showed them inside, and had both steeped into Sean's house. The first thing he looked out was the carpet, which was so soft and he was so used to walking on before he left. Then, they went into the living room to relax.

Sam and Blaine stepped outside the volcano. "Now. Your Vulpix is fast, I will not doubt that. But you need power. You can't rely on just your pure tricks and luck. You need POWER," Blaine said. Sam walked and tripped. His Fire Stone fell out of his bag.

"Whoops," Sam said, struggling to grab everything and pick it up. Blaine walked over and picked up the Fire Stone.

"How long have you had this?" Blaine asked.

"About...a month?" Sam said in reply.

"You realize this would solve all of your problems, right? Your Vulpix would gain immense power through this. But I think I know why you're waiting. Flamethrower, right?" Blaine asked.

"Yeah...Flamethrower. Its a powerful attack for sure, but...will it really take a long time to get it?" Sam asked.

"Your Vulpix...it is very near the level, that's for sure. But I want to see it battle...in a way where you can use fire attacks. Would you grant me that?" Blaine asked.

"Of course, master," Sam said, looking around. He quickly sighted a Koffing.

"There's an opponent. Go for it, Sam!" Blaine said happily, nudging Sam forward to fight the poison pokemon. Sam nodded and commanded Vulpix to attack. Vulpix walked up to the now angry Koffing, who spat a cloud of poison at Vulpix. Vulpix ran around it as Sam thought something up.

"Go for it with your Ember attack!" Sam yelled. Vulpix shot flames, causing Koffing to fall a little bit. "Now use Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Vulpix shot at Koffing like a bullet, hitting it squarely before skidding to a stop.

"Good, good! You did very well with that one!" Blaine said, congratulating Sam on the good combo attack.

"Thanks, but I need to be careful. I've fought these before..." Sam said, returning his focus to Koffing, who had now set a cloud of smoke over the arena. "Hm...I need a way to use this to my advantage. Flames could...yeah. Firewall!" Sam yelled.

"What's firewall?" Blaine asked, wondering what this new fire attack was.

"A combo Vulpix and I made. Its Ember to create a wall of pure flame, which I then use to...well, you'll see. I have several combos for it. Let's go! Quick Attack!" Sam yelled, as Vulpix set out a sheet of flame. Then, it charged through it, catching itself on fire. One easy hit later, Koffing was gasping for breath. "But its not done yet..." Sam said, as Koffing got up. Vulpuix had already boosted its power, but the fire had kicked back, injuring it. Koffing took advantage of this. Turning around, it hit Vulpix with dark energy, knocking it backwards. "What was that?" Sam asked, turning to Blaine.

"That was Assurance. It is much stronger if you've already taken damage, like that..." Blaine said, as Sam gathered this. Must be a fair strength Koffing. But was it strong enough to take Vulpix? He still had the flames, but the tail whip didn't seem like all that great of an idea. No. He had other plans for them. "Okay! Use Roar!" Sam yelled, as Vulpix ran back towards him. Turning to the flames, it let out a roar, which blew the flames back over the opponent, coating and burning it completely.

"Koff...ing!" Koffing yelled, charging forward. Sam quickly caught on. This was tackle, but no time to escape. Vulpix was hit, as Koffing turned around and used Assurance again.

"Ugh. That's no good for us, is it Vulpix? Well, teach it! Hypnosis, then Ember, full power!" Sam yelled. Vulpix's eyes flashed purple, putting Koffing to sleep. Then, Vulpix loosed some flames, causing Koffing to screech in pain, burning it. "Yeah! Good job!" Sam yelled, as Vulpix used Ember one last time, finishing Koffing off.

"Hm! Not bad, not bad at all, Sam. You're powerful, and so if your Vulpix. It would honor me if you'd take this TM of fire," Blaine said, handing Sam a disc.

"Thank you, master Blaine. Is this all you have to teach me?" Sam asked, curious.

"No, no! I will teach you to be great! I would like to instruct you through another battle. But this time, I want you to use that TM. I think it would make your style...more interesting," Blaine said, nudging Sam back into the gym. Sam quickly discovered Blaine had several rooms here. He offered Sam one, and Sam quickly accepted. It had been a while since he'd had a soft bed. Laying down, Blaine came in. "Sam. I can tell you're not a stay around boy. Do you truely have a family," Blaine asked.

"I do...but its not really a family. They want me to be a business man. I want to be what I am now, a trainer. But they never understood like you do, Blaine," Sam said happily.

"Hahaha...I see. I've never really had a family, either. Mine wanted me to work the family business too, but then I met my Vulpix, which got me started on pokemon training. Hahaha...I guess we're a lot alike, Sam. If you ever need a place to stay, you're welcome here," Blaine said, patting Sam on the back.

"Thank you, Blaine. That's probably the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me. Ever," Sam said, laying down. Blaine nodded and left the room, as Sam slowly laid down to sleep in the warm bed.

Jen took a deep breath, taking in the amazing scent of fresh air and sea water as she gazed out at the approaching island. Her hair flailed behind like a cape as the air bashed against her face coolly, but as it was a warm day it felt refreshing. Lips tugging into a smile, Jen felt her excitement begin to almost make her giddy. Her stomach fluttered like the beating of drums at the thought of her next gym battle.

Her journey had been particularly hard, but it was well worth it. After all, what amazing journey didn't have its flaws? If it had been perfect it wouldn't even be worth it! Heck, even her odd ball pokemon agreed with her, though at times she was sure that they might have said differently in the past.

Oddish, her very first pokemon, was a Gloom, and unfortunately the laziest of all her pokemon. It was distressing, honestly. Your starter pokemon was supposed to be your secret weapon that would burst forth from its pokeball with a wild cry and amazing battle stance, but Gloom preferring to yawn, sunbath and, if need be, use its stench to get rid of its opponents. Fortunately, Gloom would battle if absolutely neccesary, but getting it to this level and evolution was a miracle all in its own.

"Gloo..." the stink mushroom pokemon said lazily by Jen's side as he sunbathed on the deck.

To his side, Jen's little psychic psycho gave a disdainful sniff. Drowzee, the meanist *****ist of them all, stood in a slouch. She always had something to complain about or sulk about. In battle, she used her built up irritation to beat the crap out of her opponents. It was effective, but quite worrisome.

"Bo cu!" Cubone, Jen's little grave robber, exclaimed happily as he pointed at the fast approaching island.

Unlike most Cubone, who were usually dull, sulky and depressed, this one was always curious and excited, but did have a bit of an ego. Cubone believed he could take on anyone, especially since he took very good care of his bone. Most rib bones that Cubone use were blunt, but Jen's would sharpen the edge, making it a very dangerous weapon.

"I can see it too!" Jen said happily, squinting her eyes to see the red building of the pokemon center. Again her stomach beat with excitement. "Gym battle, here we come!"

"Kaanss," the last member of Jen's team hissed in agreement. Ekans, the poisonious snake, flicked his tongue out eagerly. Like Drowzee, Ekans enjoyed to battle, but Ekans was a bit more merciless in battle. It had been a hard time explaining to a young boy that her Ekans really wasn't going to eat his Pidgey.

The large cruise ship finally pulled up to the dock and Jen made a mad dash to exit the ship. Her pokemon, aside from Drowzee and Gloom, followed just as quickly. So yes, only half of her team were eager for a battle, but that was ok!

"Hello, and welcome to the pokemon center," came the well known voice of Nurse Joy.

"Hello," Jen greeted back warmly. "I was wondering, would you be able to tell me the way to the pokemon gym?"

Jen felt her stomach drop as Nurse Joy frowned. "I'm sorry," the pink haired nurse said, looking displeased. "But the gym has been located. It's inside the volcano now." By the pursing of her lips, Jen could tell the kind hearted woman was not pleased with this new location. "Its a short path, known as the Volcanic Path, but it can be dangerous as there are many wild pokemon."

"Don't worry," Jen said with a large grin. Finally, some action! "We can handle it." Behind her her pokemon made sounds of agreement.

Not entirely satisified, Joy reluctantly told Jen the way to the path. Bidding the Nurse goodbye and a wave of thanks, Jen and her pokemon found themselves at the foot of a path with a large volcano in front of them. It was a bit daunting, seeing such a large piece of nature that held such power over them. Still, it only urged them on, and with an insanely excited grin and sparkly eyes, Jen strode forward.

However, it didn't take long before she could hear the sounds of loud footsteps and new her next challenge was right before her. "Get ready," she murmered to her pokemon and, with pride, she watched them get into a battle stance as their opponent came out from behind a corner. With wide eyes and dropped jaws, a beautiful flaming horse appeared, but unlike its other kind that had red fire, this one had blue.

"Pooon!" the blue fire horse cried as it spread its legs, head lowered and eyes determined. Snorting some flame out of its nose, the Ponyta grinned cockily before charging with another loud cry...

"Smokescreen!" Warren groaned as thick jets of black smoke covered the arena, completely obscuring everything. It was only the first move but he was already worried.
"Quick Attack!" he shouted, well aware that he was spouting attacks randomly rather than actually using any strategy.
"Fire Punch!" Elekid charged into the cloud as Blaine ordered his next attack, only to be thrown out moments later with a large burn mark on its chest. Growling, it struggled to its feet but Warren gasped. Elekid were only babies really and Magmar was a high-powered Pokemon. He'd have to be more careful from now. He needed a strategy. But how could he penetrate that dense fog? On top of the Smokescreen, the water from Poliwag's Rain Dance was rapidly evaporating and the steam was just adding to the confusion. That was it! The water!
"Elekid, use Thundershock, just like when you fought me and Venonat!" Warren shouted, "Build up the power for as long as you can!" Blaine raised an eyebrow, amused as Elekid's arms spun like rotor blades.
"Smog, Magmar!" Now wreaths of purple joined the black smoke and grey steam and Elekid began to cough. Warren grinned like a demon. Elekid's lightning was still gathering around its prongs, but the small Pokemon was struggling to control the sheer power.
"Alright, release it!" Elekid cackled as the electricity that wreathed his prongs leapt into the thick fog. For a second, nothing happened, then the entire cloud exploded as the lightning landed in a puddle of water and erupted into an electrical fire. Warren grinned as the air cleared, revealing a badly charred Magmar down on one knee, panting heavily. Elekid stared at it angrily, practically foaming at the mouth. Blaine gasped.
"Nice strategy...but its not enough. Your Elekid just doesn't have enough power to beat Magmar. Enough messing around. Time for some real fighting. Magmar, use Fire Spin!" The fiery salamander bent forwards, breathing out a torrent of flame that spun and whirled until it formed a miniature tornado. Elekid screamed in a mix of anger and pain as the scorching wind blew over it.
"Low Kick!" Warren grinned as Elekid bravely fought his way out of the hurricane, then spun and delivered a powerful kick to Magmar's left thigh. The fire-type stumbled, a little injured but ready to keep fighting.
"Fire Punch, Magmar!" Once more, Magmar wreathed its hand in flames, then drove it forwards at Elekid's head. Except Elekid wasn't there. Ducking out of the way, Elekid sprung forwards, then drove its shoulder into Magmar's gut, winding the fiery duck thing. Slowly, it stumbled and Elekid hit it with another Quick Attack, knocking it onto its back and leaping onto its stomach. Warren grinned.
"THUNDERSHOCK!" he yelled as loud as possible and Elekid whirled its arms, forming a small ball of lightning that erupted into a powerful jet, coursing into Magmar's body. Arching its back, the fire-type threw off Elekid and slowly struggled to its feet. Blaine frowned and gritted his teeth angrily.
"Finish it!" he shouted, "Faint Attack!" Elekid gasped as Magmar faded from view, its eyes wide. Just a moment later, in a virtual action replay of Poliwag's battle, Magmar reappeared behind Elekid and struck with a vicious uppercut as it turned, smacking Elekid several metres into the air. Warren gasped as it landed, bounced, hit the ground once more then skidded to a stop.
"Errr...Elekid?" he called, a hint of desperation in his voice. There was no response. Blaine gave a superior smirk.
"That's pretty conclusive," he called, "I would say bad luck but luck had nothing to do with it. You were just outclassed. The league is starting soon, too. And I'm afraid that it's against my policy to rebattle trainers within a week." Warren gasped. A week? That sort of delay would bar him from the final. He couldn't have come this far, just to lose now. On the ground, Elekid twitched.
"Come on," he whispered under his breath, "I need this." Slowly, ever so slowly he crawled to his feet and glared at Magmar. Blaine laughed.
"Your Elekid has spirit," he called, "But it doesn't know when to give up. Magmar, prepare your Fire Spin!" The salamander's beak glowed as a fiery tornado formed behind it, but it held it back for a second. Blaine looked at Elekid, addressing him directly now and ignoring Warren.
"This attack will destroy you if I release it. You can't win. Give up now and you will be spared the pain. Alternatively, you can refuse and be burned to a crisp. Your choice." Elekid looked at Blaine, growling deeply.
"Huh. Pokemon are normally quite intelligent, but I guess you chose badly here. Tough Luck. Magmar...finish it." Elekid yowled loudly as Blaine heaped insults upon it, slowly beginning to spin its arms, fatigue evident on its face. Magmar howled as a whirlwind of fire exploded from its beak, colliding with the jet of lightning and washing over the entire arena. Warren ducked, smelling burnt hair as the hot wind blew over his head, then glanced up and blanched. Elekid stood there, lightning streaming from its prongs in a desperate bid to fight off the burning wind that was threatening to swallow it whole. Its arms spun almost too fast to see and its mouth was wide open as it screamed a terrifying battle-cry. Blaine spat, angry.
"Finish it , Magmar!" The heat intensified and Elekid screamed even louder as it gave one last push...BOOM. Warren fell as an explosion rippled across the entire arena. Slowly, he picked himself up and looked at the settling dust. Two shapes, one large and one small, face each other through the ocean of sand. Slowly, the large one fell and hit the ground. Seconds later, the smaller followed suit. Warren gasped as he waded forwards, bending to pick up the barely conscious Elekid.
"Ele?" it whispered and Warren nodded.
"You did good," he replied and it grinned weakly. Blaine laughed from the other side of the arena.
"That was one intense battle!" he whooped, here you deserve this!" Holding out a hand, he offered the small metal token to Warren, who quickly snatched it and clipped it next to the others.
"Just one more to go," he whispered, "And then we're going to the league!"

Final Exam

Sam woke up the next morning. He could feel the heat in the air. Blaine must be training. Pulling his belt over, he cliped it on so that his pokemon were on him and walked out of his bedroom. Sure enough, Blaine was up top. Sam was so preoccupied that he didn't even notice that Igglybuff was missing.

IGGLYBUFF'S VIEW AGAIN :)

Igglybuff was up in the ventilation system. "Pretty colors!" she said, as she walked around. The vent system was all natural, and so there were no metal grates, just rock walls. She was looking at crystals, which formed as a result of the heat and the rocks. As she reached the end, she heard flames hitting the walls, as it quickly got hot. She ran forward towards the source as she saw three pokemon. A Magby, which she recognized by remembering one Sam had seen on the way here, a Magmar, which she recognized from Sam's gym battle, and one she'd never seen before.

"Grr!" the Magby yelled, spitting an Ember attack at what appeared to be a case. The flames hit it, but nothing happened. Magby charged in and shot some more flames at it, but nothing appeared to happen.

"Magby, you're weak. Let me show you. RAGH!" the Magmar yelled, using a Fire Punch on the case. Several of these hit it, but nothing appeared to happen to it. He then used a Smog attack, but again, nothing happened.

"You two are weak. Let me show you how its done. FLAMETHROWER!" the last pokemon yelled, shooting a beam of flame at the case. It hit it hard and blasted for several minutes, but Igglybuff could see nothing was happening.

"Whoa! Even Master Magmortar can't defeat it..." Magby said rather loudly. Magmortar apparently heard this, as its hand lit on fire and it hit Magby with a Fire Punch. This was aparently a bad idea, as Magby shot a purple cloud at Magmortar, who dodged and caused Magmar to be hit. This started a bit of a skirmish, as all the pokemon wanted to prove themself the best.

"Bad pokemon. They aren't like Sam's pokemon. But...pretty case!" Igglybuff said, jumping and flying down with its baloonlike body. It was quickly on the platform and tried to pick up the case. The case, however, was blazing hot. Igglybuff jumped back and started crying. This quickly alerted the other pokemon to its presence.

"Whoa! An Igglybuff!" Magby said, turning at Igglybuff. Magmar nodded, as Magmortar walked forward.

"Thank you for stating the obvious, Magby. Now, are you okay, little one?" he asked, showing a bit of his softer side.

"N...no..." Igglybuff said, crying again. What happened was a bit surprising. A star appeared out of the hole in the ceiling and fell on Igglybuff. It looked like it hurt, but Igglybuff stood up as though nothing had happened.

"You look better now. So you're after this case?" Magmortar asked, a bit of flame coming off its body.

"Yes...can I have it?" Igglybuff asked, cutely looking at Magmortar.

"I'd love to say yes, but this isn't something you can take. Eat this!" Magmortar said, launching a fireball. It was feeling mean again.

"Yeah! Eat Flamethrower!" Magmar yelled. The two attacks flew at Igglybuff, who quickly rolled to the side. The attacks collided with the other pokemon, causing each to fall over. Magby was scared that its own attacks would hit it at this point, and got down on its knees.

"May I be of assistance?" a voice said, as a pokemon appeared. It was Blaine's Magmar.

"Yes! Can you get rid of them?" Igglybuff asked. Magmar nodded and hit them all with a Fire Punch attack, knocking them back into the lava. Blaine and Sam quickly entered.

"Igglybuff!" Sam said, smiling. He picked her up as he noticed the case. Opening the now cooled case, he found a fishing rod.

"Hm! I've seen that case. Its been down on the rocks. Looks like the hot air moved it up. You may as well take it. Now. Ready for you final test?" Blaine asked.

"Yes, but first..." Sam said, sending out Vulpix. He cutely growled as Sam pulled out the TM he had recieved. Putting it on Vulpix, it started gaining energy, then broke, but Vulpix looked a little smarter.

"Ready, then?" Blaine asked.

"Of course. To the peak then?" Sam asked. Blaine nodded, as he put Igglybuff in his pack and walked up.

OOC: Things from this.

1) Igglybuff...aparently has ADD xD

2) A fishing rod. Its whatever. Your choice :)

Chapter 1: Playing The Toxic Game!
Chapter Song: Pokemon: Unbeatable

"Pix, EMBER!" Jasper shouted, and a wave of hot flame flowed out of Pix's mouth, burning the Rattata and making it fall to the ground, fainted. "Nice job, Pix. Return." Jasper walked on, following the narrow maze, which made up the Volcanic Path. After a while, he came to a fork in the path. "Left or Right….." Jasper thought. "Left!" He continued up the left path. Suddenly, the path stopped, and a rocky wall stood in its place. "DANG IT!" Jasper whispered, and turned around. What he saw was a shock. There was a huge Koffing, and several Grimer behind it. "Oh. My. God." Jasper said, shocked. They all started using Poison Gas. "Jigglypuff!" Jasper said, coughing. "Sing!"

Through the gas, Jigglypuff started singing. "Jig-glypuff-jiggly-puuuufff." Instantly, the Pokémon fell asleep.

"Okay, guys, let's go!" Jasper sent out Clefairy, the Nidorans, Ditto, and Vulpix. The Pokémon knew what to do. Ditto transformed into Jigglypuff, and they both started Doubleslap-ing the whole gang of Pokémon, along with Clefairy. Pix Ember-ed the crowd while the "Nidos" Double Kick-ed. "Nice work guys!"Jasper shouted, while most of the Pokémon in the gang fainted. All but one. Koffing. The Koffing sucked in hard, and next thing, it released a Smog/Smokescreen/Poison Gas combo. Jasper in his Pokemon flung to the ground, and Jasper looked around at all of them. Pix, the "Nidos", Clefairy and Jigglypuff, then Ditto, or, another Clefairy.

"Okay guys, game plan. Jigglypuff, you hit 'em with a Defense Rollout, followed by a Double Slap. Ditto and Clefairy, one of you wait for him to do something stupid so you can use Encore and keep using growl, the other use Follow Me and Defense Curl, and try to dodge his attacks. Nidos, go all out attack, Peck, Scratch, Double Kick, whatever you gotta do. And Pix, get this smoke away. Got it? Good, now go!"

In a flash of limbs, bodies, and who knows what, Jasper's plan was in motion. Everyone played out perfectly. But et, it didn't seem to be working, Then finally, something happened. Ditto used Encore after the Koffing used Smokescreen. Pix blew the smoke away with Roar, but the Koffing kept it coming. Jigglypuff was tired from all of the slapping, but it had definitely done something. The Koffing was attracted to Clefairy, because of Follow Me, and the Nidos got in a good attack. Both at once, the two used Double Kick, knocking the Koffing down and knocking it out. The smoke cleared. They had done it.

"Nice teamwork guys! We….did it." Suddenly, a flash of blue ran by. "Wonder what that was…", Jasper said. The exit was just ahead, after they had turned into the right path. "Cinnibar gym…..here I come…"

(OOC: The blue flash is a Shiny Ponyta, just a quick appearance. Hope you like it! Oh, and, every chapter will have a chapter song. :D)
