[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13

The FOR REAL Final Exam

OOC: Didn't know about the boat...and this is a joing post King and I made. He's pretty minor in it, but he'll be in part two as well. Its Sam vs. Blaine again after his traning.

Sam stepped up onto the peak of the volcano. Here it was, his final test. If he won this fight, he had passed Blaine's training. If he lost, he needed more. "Okay then, Vul!" Sam yelled, throwing out his first pokemon. Vulpix came out and cutely roared. It was obviously energized by the tension in the air.

"Okay then, Vul. Its time for our exam. If we win, we've beaten Blaine again. If we don't, we'll have to start another round of training. Now, ready to go?!" Sam yelled. Vul cried in happiness. He was ready to go.

"Ninetails. Its your time. Ready to take down Vulpix? Let's go!" Blaine yelled, throwing out a pokeball of his own. His Ninetails emerged, ready to fight. Both were ready, but Sam knew it was his turn to move.

"Okay! Use your Confuse Ray attack!" Sam yelled. Vul's eyes turned purple, but Blaine was aparently ready for this.

"Safeguard to stop the attack, then Quick Attack!" Blaine yelled. Ninetails covered itself in a green veil, then charged forward, undazed by Vul's attack. Vul was about to be hit by the drive, when Sam got ready.
"Come on! Use your Quick Attack to get behind it, then use Roar!" Sam yelled. Vul charged behind Ninetails, easily dodging the attack. Then, roaring, it scared Ninetails onto another piller.

"Yeah! Now hit it with Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Vulpix charged forward, hitting Ninetails before it had a chance to move. The training had worked out. Vul was way faster now. Waiting for Blaine to make his move, Sam heard someone coming up the stairs to the peak.

"Pix get back here!", Jasper shouted. Pix had apparentley heard or seen something it liked, because it has freaked out and starting running up the volcano. Vul quickly charged over and stopped it with a Hypnosis before Sam could say anything. It was really growing up.

"Yo. You here for a match?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, my name's Jasper. Here to fight the leader," Jasper replied, wondering who the kid was.

"Cool. Finishing up with a battle. My name's Sam. Nice to meet you. If you wouldn't mind sitting down...?" Sam asked. Jasper aparently agreed, as he picked up his now sleeping Pix and watched.

"Okay. Now, use your Flamethrower attack!" Blaine yelled. Sam was certain he had forgotten what had happened last time, but suddenly he realized. It wasn't aimed for Vul. It was aimed straight for the piller under it.

"Quick! Dodge!" Sam yelled, but it was too late. The attack had hit the piller, causing the top to collapse. Vul fell towards the magma below. Sam was sure Vul was dead, literally. He said a silent prayer as it hit. What amazed him was that Blaine seemed nervous, almost as though he hadn't expected the fall. Sam looked down and was instantly surprised. Vul was flying up with a Quick Attack. Hitting Ninetails, the green veil dissapeared. It was hit and knocked backwards into a piller.

"Now! Use Hypnosis!" Sam yelled. Vul's and Ninetails's eyes both flashed purple, as Ninetails fell asleep.

"Go Sam and Vul!", Jasper cheered, and Pix cheered also. Jasper was amazed by Sam's Vulpix's ability.

"Thanks! Now check this! Go for a Quick Attack combined with Ember!" Sam yelled. Vul charged. The fire flew off Vul, but it didn't seem to turn it into a fire type attack. It just boosted the power. Ninetails was hit as it woke up, instantly exposed to the pain. Sam and Blaine seemed to have the same next idea.

"Confuse Ray!" both yelled. Ninetails and Vul both started to crazily move about, with no aparent control. They dived at eachother, hitting heads. A couple more attacks later, both were looking tired and very injured. Sam knew this wouldn't last much longer no matter how it was put.

"Ready? Time to finish this up, Vul. Its time to finish it off. Quick Attack!" Sam yelled.

"You do the same thing! Time to finish it!" Blaine yelled. The two charged back and forth at eachother, but after several hits, nothing seemed to happen. Both were obviously injured, but neither seemed to want to quit.

"Okay, then. Time to finish this. Vul, take a dive in the lava, then charge up! Hit it with a spin tackle!" Sam yelled. Vul dived down into the magma. It seemed to strenghthen its force and stamina. Blaine was obviously confused by this, as it had been mostly luck last time that Vul had survived. But right as Blaine had doubted its return, Vul flew up and hit the opponent, who flew backwards and crashed into one of the piller. It started sliding down, now knocked out.

"Yeah! We did it, Vul!" Sam yelled, happily cheering for his victory.

"Hm! Not bad, Sam," Blaine said, obviously proud of him.

Sean and Natasha had walked into the living room, when Sean's mum, Jenny was making a drink for them. Once Sean steeped inside the room, he could notice a difference. The way it was decorated, with darker colours and more furniature. It was as if they had became rich.
As Sean and Natasha had sat together on the two-seated sofa, Natasha was interested by his house, his family and basiclly everything, "Wow, no wonder you wanted to come back here. This place is great. A whole lot better than my place in Pewter City." her last word was low pitched than the rest of her sentence.
"You really think that? I remember sitting on this sofa everyday in my life, watching the TV." he was refreshing his steps on his old life, which he did miss a little bit.
"Whoa, awesome TV, by the way." Natasha also noticed the large flatscreen TV, which had happened to be an LED TV. Sean didn't notice this change, and opened his eyes wider once he did notice this.
Then, to interrupt their conversation, Jenny came back into the room with two mugs of hot chocolate, "Alright, here are your drinks. Be careful though, they're quite hot." both of them had listened, and placed the drinks onto the coasters to cool down a little. Jenny then sat down on the armchair, which was facing the TV directly.
"So, anything particularly interesting about your journey, Sean?" she had questioned him, with Sean trying to think of a short enough answer for.
"My Pokemon are the best things that have ever happened to me. Next to meeting Natasha, anyway. All of them are in their PokeBalls at the moment, but you saw my Growlithe, my best one. I'll show you them later." Natasha nodded with him at the end to agree with him. Jenny was very intrigued, and also let Sean in on one of her new facts.
"Well, my new husband has let me have one of his Pokemon too, I'll show you it later also. Maybe we could have a battle." she sounded quite frank, yet Sean just remembered one thing she had just said which made him speechless.
"Your... new husband..? What happened to dad?" he said it slowly as it was a shock to him, his face was showing nervous looks.
"Oh my... I forgot to tell you... I'm so sorry. Me and your dad... well... we had an argument and it ended up on him moving away to Johto. Another region in the Pokemon world. Don't ask about what happened, I don't want to go back to that time." while Sean was happy to know the worst hadn't happened, he was still distressed by this event. Natasha put her hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
"Well then... who's your new husband? Will that make him my stepdad?" now he was back to being curious, and Jenny wasn't afraid to answer to him, but her speech did begin a little slow.
"Well... you might have seen him around the town, but it's going to be a pleasent suprise for when you see-" she was interupted by the door opening, aswell as the sound of keys jingling.
"Jenny, I'm on my break!" he sounded exactly like the man he saw at the harbour, the one who said he was the Gym Leader of Cinnabar Island. Sean's eyebrows raised to hear this, and he was starting to suspect that this actually could have been him.
Then, finally, the man who they saw at the harbour, with a white tuxedo and black glasses had entered the room.

I thought I'd put the next route up... don't really know why, just felt like it :P

Route 21
Number of Posts: 1-3

Description: Okay the idea behind this is that you can catch a ride back to Pallet Town on a fishing boat that runs between Pallet and Cinnabar. The fishermen are also nice enough to let you use one of their rods... aren't they nice?

What can I catch with this fishing rod thingy?

Note - the title specifying the rarity of a pokémon refers to how hard a pokémon is to catch. i.e. a much better post is required to catch an uncommon pokémon than to catch a common pokémon.
How I level the pokémon you're catching will depend on how good your post is. When you're trying to catch a pokémon, you cannot decide if you catch it. When trying to catch a pokémon you have to finish your post off when you throw the pokéball and wait for my response telling you if the capture was successful or not. You cannot continue until you know that it was caught. In battles, I will level up your pokémon depending on the quality of your battle post.

Sam petted Vul's head. He had done really well. Recalling him, Sam knew what Blaine's next pokemon would be. Magmar. "Hm...there's only one pokemon I want for part two! Pika!" Sam yelled, sending out his Pikachu.

"Pika!" Pika cried, shocking the air around it in anticipation. He could tell Pika was ready for this fight. Blaine smiled as he tossed out another pokemon.

"Magmar," he yelled, throwing out a pokeball. Magmar emerged from the pokeball, warming the pure air in the open volcano. Sam could see how much stronger it looked after just a few days.

"Okay then, Pika! Let's use Slam!" Sam yelled. Pika tossed its weight forward, flying at Magmar. Magmar stood its ground, waiting for Blaine's command.

"Okay then, Fire Punch!" Blaine yelled. Magmar's fist lit up as it flew forward towards Pika. The two attacks collided, but aparently Pika got the worst of it. It flew back, its tail looking burnt.

"Crap. Probably not the best idea. Let's try Quick Attack to confuse it!" Sam yelled. Pika charged in circles, quickly confusing the Magmar. It seemed dizzy, as Blaine quickly realized Sam had learned some new tricks.

"Now! Use Thundershock!" Sam yelled. Pika stopped and shot a bolt of electricity which quickly hit Magmar in the chest. It seemed to lean backwards as it recovered from the shock of the blow.

"Huh. Not bad, Sam. You need to get better before you try that, though! Smog!" Blaine yelled. A purple cloud flew Pika's way, quickly covering it.

"Dang it! There's only one way to get rid of something like this! Use Thunder Wave!" Sam yelled. He knew that water had to be in the cloud, which was its fault. The electricity flew through the water in thie cloud, destroying the poison as it went. Blaine seemed impressed by this move as Sam quick prepared for his next attack. Last time, Magmar had been able to stop the Slam attack because of the poor force and backup. Sam knew that if he wanted to win, he'd have to add some extra power. Maybe...electricity? Sam quickly formulated a plan in his head. Blaine seemed confused by his lack of attack and deicded he'd have to use one of his own.

"Fire Punch!" Blaine yelled. Magmar charged in with a powerful attack, causing the rock under Pika to start burning as the attack came through. It was about to hit Pika when Sam realized something. Now was perfect.

"Thunder Wave!" Sam yelled. Pika realized a jolt of static electricity, causing Magmar to stop. Sam smiled at how useful that move was getting. Blaine, however, seemed annoyed about how Sam had caught him.

"Yes! Now use Slam, but back it up with Thundershock!" Sam yelled. Pika threw its weight forward as a bolt of electricity came out of its body, protecting it. Magmar was hit and flew backwards onto the ground behind it. It hit the piller and fell straight down to the magma. Sam silently cursed as he realized what he'd done. That magma would boost energy for a bit, along with making it impossible to hit physically. It might also make it warm enough that Sam couldn't use ranged attacks, as they would fade before they hit. Sam was really annoyed how he had done this now.

"Hahaha! You messed up there, huh?" Blaine asked, smiling. That look could only make it so Sam could smile.

"Hahaha...yeah. Pretty bad, yeah?" Sam asked.

"Ha...yeah! Well, time to get things serious again! Go! Fire Punch!" Blaine yelled. Sam was confused, but quickly realized what happened. Magmar used the heat to throw itself straight up at Pika, who was completely unsuspecting. It was hit and flew back towards the piller and fell. Sam was really annoyed about how bad he had messed up now, but decided that he still had a way to win this.

"Okay, Pika. There's only one way to win this! Use Thundershock on that piller its on!" Sam yelled. Pika shot a bolt of electricity at the piller, causing it to explode. Rock shards flew everywhere, hitting Magmar. They seemed to cool the lava. Sam knew there was only one way to win this now. This would be his last chance. He had to get this right. It was just cool enough now.

"Pika! Charge and grab Magmar's hand, then use Slam to throw your weight and throw it right back at Blaine!" Sam yelled. Pika charged and grabbed Magmar's hand. He was about to start the throw when Blaine figured it out.

"Use Fire Punch, now!" Blaine yelled. Magmar's hand lit up as Pika struggled. It had to be hard to hold on, but Pika did. Blaine seemed shocked by the pokemon's will. Pika eventually tossed Magmar with full force. It was sent flying as Sam realized this was his last chance.

"Quick Attack to hit it towards the magma! Shock it on the way down!" Sam yelled. Pika charged over, flipping its body to knock Magmar straight down. It flew towards the magma below, as Pika shocked it once more. Now was make or break time.

"LAST MOVE! SPARK DRIVE!" Sam yelled. Pika fell and quickly started shocking itself and and moved quicker than Magmar going down, hitting it hard when it would hit. Magmar flew up in the air, above the pillers. This was the last move.

"Now! Up the piller and finish it off!" Sam yelled. Pika charged in circles around the piller, building energy with every step. Finally, it reached the top and jumped at full speed. Magmar was hit and fell, into the magma. Sam silently cursed again, realizing what he'd done. Magmar quickly jumped back up. Blaine was certain it wasn't done.

"FIRE PUNCH!" Blaine yelled. Magmar leaned in. Sam knew that it was time for his true final move.

"COME ON! USE SPARK DRIVE ONE MORE TIME!" Sam yelled. Pika charged in as the attacks collided. Smoke ensued as both pokemon landed on a piller inside it. Sam and Blaine sat there waiting as the smoke started to clear. When it finally did, both were still standing. Both were ready to give one more command when something shocking happened. Magmar fell over, knocked out. Pika was injured, but stood strong. Sam, despite Blaine's sudden complaining, ran out onto the pillers, jumping from piller to piller to get to Pika. Happily congratulating it, Pika smiled. Sam hugged it tightly, so proud of it.

"You did it, Sam! You've beat me twice. Congratulations!" Blaine yelled to him. Sam turned to Blaine.

"Thanks, Blaine!" he yelled, jumping back to the edge. The two slowly made their way through the entire volcano house to the entrance.

"Well, there is not much more I can teach you. Promise me you'll come and visit me when you get a chance," Blaine said.

"Will do, Blaine! And thank you, for everything," Sam said happily.

"It was a pleasure, Sam. Now go and win that last badge! I'll be watching you through the whold league tournament," Blaine yelled as Sam slowly walked back to town. That night, he stayed back in the pokecenter as his pokemon healed up from heat exaustion. He fell asleep immediatly, cuddling Igglybuff, who was perfectly fine.

The shock inside Sean's head was visible as soon as Blaine had walked into the room, and the thought of his mum marrying the Gym Leader of his hometown's Gym, aswell as the 2nd strongest Gym Leader in Kanto.
While Sean was suprised, so was Blaine. He kept hesitating to think on how just another visitor to Cinnabar Island was infact his stepson who he had wanted to see for a long time.
As for Natasha, she quickly whispered something to Sean,
"Wow, you sure are lucky to have a Gym Leader for a stepdad, ya know." there was no sarcasm in her voice, just a compliment. Sean could not reply, since he was still quite shocked and he was still thinking, until Jenny started to speak.
"Um... this is Blaine, Sean. I'm sure you've heard that he's the Gym Leader of Cinnabar. He is... my husband." while Sean had already guessed this, he still sounded quite suprised out of the fact.
"And Blaine, this is Sean, he's-" she was interrupted.
"Oh, I know. I saw him at the harbour when he arrived on the island. Gosh, I really do apologize for not giving you a more welcoming greet." he could speak again, as his shock was over. As could Sean, who replied instantly,
"It's okay. So, do tell, mum. How did Blaine get to marry you? I mean, didn't he have a wife or something?" he went just like that, to asking questions. Though Jenny was alright with answering them, and she was always ready to explain.
"Here's the story. After your dad had left me, Blaine was always there; at the Gym doing my training, in the park, in the cafe, anywhere. That's when we went into each other because we had so much in comman. Now, here we are." it wasn't such a long story, as she had shortened it as much as she could.
Natasha was still having her drink aswell as a sandwich, while they were all having their family conversation. Sean was thinking about what kind of advice that Blaine could give onto Sean's Pokemon, and benifit him in so many different directions. Infact, Sean was going to decide to plan a battle soon, so he decided to talk to Blaine.
"So then, Blaine, what advice would you give for my Pokemon? You know, like the Growlithe that I had out earlier on." he tried to sound sweet, so that he would persuade him enough to do it. Natasha, who's mouth was nearly full, had brought herself into the conversation, "And me?"
"Ahh, well, you will have to show me how well you can do at this moment before I can give you any advice on battling." this didn't really burst Sean's bubble as he was prepared to start a battle even now. Anything to get Blaine's attention.
"Well then, Natasha, what do you say, a 3 on 3? Our top 3 strongest Pokemon?" he got to the point, Natasha instantly replying, first swallowing the remains of her sandwich.
"Of course! I'd love to. And I'm sure you'd all enjoy watching us." she was now starting to suck up to Blaine, mainly attempting to be the focus of his attention.
"In that case, let's go outside." Jenny guided them all out of the room, and into the back garden, which looked like the great spot to have a battle.
Once again, it looked quite new to Sean. The hedges were alot more neater, there were new types of plants, and it was basiclly a whole new place.
They both took their positions where there were enough room, and Blaine had signalled the start of the battle.
"Ready?" he wanted to make sure if they were ready. Both of them nodded.

"Pooon!" the blue fire horse cried as it spread its legs, head lowered and eyes determined. Snorting some flame out of its nose, the Ponyta grinned cockily before charging with another loud cry...

"Out of the way!" Jen hollered, eyes wide and arms flailing as she literally through herself to the side to avoid the incoming Tackle from the rare colored fire horse.

With outraged cries, her pokemon followed suit, but unlike Jen, her pokemon landed with a bit more grace.

"Drowzz," Drowzee said irritably, body shifting as she glared at the fire horse. Her overlarge nostril flared with anger, slightly pudgy body shifting into one of a battle stance, and a sneer upon her face. "Zee!" she snarled, flicking her glowing blue finger in a slashing motion.

Ponyta snorted at the gesture, flames dancing merrily around him to make the already hot trail becoe even more intense, but that didn't last long as he realized what the pissed psychic type was doing. "Nyta!" Ponyta yelped in shock, rearing back before bringing down his diamond hard hooves on the large rock that Drowzee had used Confusion on to send it flying. "Pony!" Ponyta snarled, muzzle opening and shooting small flaming balls.

"Dodge!" Jen shouted quickly, acting rather than thinking. It was natural, strangely enough. Instinct always took control during the heat of a battle, which was an amazing gift, but not always the best thing.

"Ze," Drowzee hissed in confirmation, slamming her foot on the ground. The attack Confusion shot out from her foot, surrounding the earth around her body and sending her flying over the flaming balls of Ember and to a safe distance. Unfortunately, someone else was behind the psychic type.

"Kaaans!" Ekans cried, reeling around in agony as the hot flames pounded at his body. Scales began to gleamwith sweat from the heat, and Ekans finally had to lunge away to avoid the rest of the Embers.

"Are you ok?" Jen asked quickly, running over to the purple snake worriedly. She stood over the agitated snake, arms barely touching the scales for fear of irritating the burns.

"Kans," Ekans said angrily, beginning to writh around. To Jen's amazement, the purple snake began to turn gray, and before she knew it, Ekans was leaving his old skin and leaving it behind. "Kan," Ekans said with a sigh, thankful for its shed skin ability before turning an icy glare over to the ready Ponyta.

"Nyt," Ponyta rumbled with soft laughter, obviously amused by the display. It even had the gall to tap its hoof on the ground in impatience.

Jen glared. "Ekans, Poison Sting! Show that pony we're not gonna take any lip!"

Spitting at embarrassing name, Ponyta quickly turned his attention back on the purple snake. Muzzle opening wide, Ponyta spared no time in launching another Ember attack. "Nyta!"

Poisonious needle like substances shot through the sky with lightning speed, but just as quickly, litttle flaming balls shot through the sky. The two attacks clashed, creating a bright array of lights that momentarily blinded the watchers. A horrible smell reached Jen's nose, and with disgust she realized that the hardened poison was being burned away into a gas that began to stink up the permeter.

"Ppon," Ponyta gagged, running his nose with his leg before letting out a loud yelp that held more surprise than pain.

The same could be said for Ekan's unfortunately. The purple snake let out a hurt hiss as he too recieved pain. "Ekak!"

While the attackers and watchers had been blinded, during that moment of instense light when the fire exploded, smalls Embers and a few Poison Stings travelled throught the air without being hit an managed to hit their mark. The Poison Sting for Ponyta and the Ember for Ekans.

"Shake it off," Jen commanded, a hard edge coming to her voice as the battle became more intense. "Use Screech."

Behind Jen, her pokemon groaned and covered their ears, all too aware of the horrible sound that would soon be heard. Well, all except Gloom. The oddball grasstype just appeared to be snoozing as it too deep breaths and let out the occassional, "Gloo, gloo, loom."

Back in the heat of battle, Ekans gave a nod of confimation. Golden eyes narrowing, Ekans took a deep breath and opened his mouth wide. What came next was the most excruciating sound any pokemon or human had ever heard. Loud, raspy hissing filled the air. It was even worse than nails on a chalkboard, and it was more than enough to cause everyone to cringe.

"Nnnytaa," Ponyta moaned, eyes twitching as he began to stagger. The fire horse's ears were flat against his head in an effort to block out the sound, but it was all for nothing. "Ponyta!" Ponyta roared, eyes going wide and pupils becoming small as he finally lost it from the horrible sound. Loud neigh echoing throughout the trail, a blast of fire surrounded Ponyta, startling everyone. Ekans was so surprised that he stopped the loud attack, but Ponyta was unaware of everything. With a wild jerk, the crazed fire horse ran straight at Ekans with its most powerful attack: Flame Wheel.

"Get out of the way!" Jen barked, staggering back as the fierce heat hit her, but she didn't dare let her eyes move away from her battling pokemon.

With a scared hiss, Ekans dove head first right into the ground in his makeshift Dig attack. The pokemon didn't know Dig, per se, but he did know how to burrow and create holes from when he had once been wild. Even if Ekans couldn't attack, he could still get away.

"Kans!" Ekans cried just before his yellow rattle disappeared into the small hole.

Ponyta, raging at the loss of his opponent, didn't once halt in his crazed charge, but instead wove into an ark right at the other. "Ponny!"

Muttering random curses, Jen had to jump out of the way once again to get away, but not before wincing as she felt the beginnings of a burn from the heat expelling from Ponyta's body. Luckily, she got away, but her eyes widened in horror at the sight meeting her. "Gloom, get out of the freakin' way!" she shouted, completely enraged at her pokemon's lack of focus.

"Glooo..." Gloom sighed, closed eyes opening just a crack. The drool running down his mouth increased as he sighed before turning his head forward, large mushroom visible. With a visible cringe from all pokemon, Gloom let out a bright blast from his mushroom head.

Ponyta, whom had been mere feet away from the grass type, blazing away, skidded to a complete halt. Nostrils flaring and eyes wide in shock, Ponyta reared up just everyone shouted. "Eww!" in their native language.

"Gloo..." Gloom mumbled, rubbing his head in resignation. The bright powder was no actual attack, but his own blast of horrible smelling powder, something which all Gloom were known to have.

"Pony!" Ponyta snarled, finally loosing control of his surrounding flame and letting it shoot out. Feet slamming to the ground and making small holes, Ponyta smirked as Gloom's eyes actually opened in shock as the flames shot toward him.

"Ooom!" Gloom shouted worriedly, tiny arms flailing as the flames surrounded him. The pain consumed him, forcing his world to go dark as unconciousness took his mind.

"Nyt," Ponyta smirked, giving a little smug little trot.

As Jen recalled Gloom with a worried frown, the last member of he team narrowed his eyes in anger. "Cu!" Cubone spat, slinging his arm and sending his faithful club flying straight at the fire horse.

"Tyt," Ponyta spat, getting ready once more. Smug grin still there, Ponyta opened his muzzle and fired a quick Ember attack at the incoming bone in an effort to stop the attack. Unfortunately for him, the attack did nothing other than slightly char the clean white bone, much to Cubone's frustration. "Ponyta!" Ponyta wailed as the hard bone literally swept him off his feet. The force actually swept the fire horse off his feet and right into some rubble that had been moved off the path, but the force was actually strong enough to force Ponyta into such a situation.

"Good job," Jen congragulated, giving the ground type a large grin.

"Bone," Cubone said happily, catching his bone easily as it flew back to its owner like a boomerang. The little robber gave his charred bone a said look before putting on a tough glare as Ponyta got back up on unsteady feet.

"Nyt, ny," Ponyta panted, head lowered tiredly as he glared. "Nya!" Ponyta roared, body erupting into a harsh flame once more before charging at Cubone.

Over at the side, the pudgy psychic type, Drowzee, gave an irritable scoff. With a wicked smirk, she lifted a glowing hand a snapped her fingers.

Ponyta felt his flames flicker, but he gave no real notice. He only savored the wonderful feeling of sending the small ground pokemon bouncing backwards as soon as he made contact. The grave robber had tried a tricky Bone Club, but with a swift turn, Ponyta actually sent himself sliding to avoid the blow. With an victorious cry, Ponyta slammed his head right into Cubone.

"Cu! Cu! Cu!" Cubone coughed with each harsh bounce, bone flying as his loose fingers let go. As he came to slow slide, Cubone gave a nasty grunt.

"Poo," Ponyta said mockingly as he flicked his tail, but as soon as he did that, the fire went out, as well as the cocky smirk. "Po," Ponyta grunted, eyes narrowing in concentration. When nothing happened, he let out a loud, "Pon!" as he tried to bring up another Flame Wheel. Once again nothing happened.

A dark chuckle interrupted Ponyta's concentration. "Doww."

"Great job," Jen said happily, eyes flicking over to her black and yellow pokemon. "Nice, Disable."

Ponyta snarled at that. Cheater! The lot of them! "Ponyta!" Ponyta roared, charging once more, mouth wide open. Although he couldn't make a Flame Wheel, he could still combine Tackle with Ember.

"Zee" Drowzee hissed, quickly levitating a rock to block the surprise combo attack.

"Ty!" Ponyta spat, ignoring the rock. Rearing up, he slammed his hooves down on the rock shattering it into many tiny pieces and slamming right down onto Drowzee.

The psychic type let out a loud wail of pain. Her face scrunched up in agony and her hands punched Ponyta's feet with a hasty Pound to get the fire horse off, but it was no use.

"Ekans, use Glare!" Jen barked, pointing a commanding finger towards the two pokemon.

"Kanss," Ekans complied, body still mostly inside the hole he had burrowed into earlier. Yellow eyes glowing, Ekans let a soothing hiss echo around them all.

"T..." Ponyta shivered, body going limp as paralyzis took over.

Drowzee, taking advantage, quickly gave a harsh slap to the fire horse and scrambled out from under him. Giving Ponyta a disdainful glare, Drowzee nodded at the others.

"All attack now!" Jen orded to her pokemon.

"Drozee!" Drowzee snarled, walking right up to the shaking blue fire horse. With a cold sneer, Drowzee slammed her head right into Ponyta's stomach, causing the fire type to let out a loud gasp of pain. The lack of air caused him to flinch instead of getting up in an effort to defende himself.

"Kans," Ekans smirked, mouth wide as he opened his mouth to release a blast of sharp needles that pounded unmercilessly into Ponyta's hyde.

"Nyyta!" Ponyta wailed, finally able to jump to his feet, body panting and staggering, but that was exactly what they had been waiting for.

"Bone," Cubone smirked, eyes narrowing under his mask. Bone twirling, he let out a loud bark and threw the loyal bone. "Cuuu!" Cubone snarled as he let loose the Bonemerang.

Jen cheered for her pokemon by their sides as they let loose their attacks, eyes following the flying bone, though she did wince as a sickening 'whack!' echoed throughout the area.

There was a tense moment as Ponyta stood absolutely still, mouth agape and feet trembling. Finally, with one last huff, Ponyta fell to his side, blue flames flickering weakly.

Taking a deep breath, Jen grabbed a pokeball. She played with the ball, studying the strong horse for a moment before grinning wide. Reeling back, she let out an excited, "Go!" unable to hold back a cliche shout when throwing the pokeball.

The pokeball soared through the air where it at last hit Ponyta on the side and sucked the rare fire horse into the ball with beam of light. It landed lightly on the ground, and now all Jen could do was wait as it began to shake...

In his own back garden, Sean was going to have a battle. What an experience it was going to be for him, since it was in his house it would make him more confident than usual, then Natasha spoke.
"Just because this is your house, doesn't mean that you'll win." she was proving a point which Sean understood, but knew it wouldn't matter because he thought he'd win.
"Well then, just wait and see." Sean got a PokeBall from his pocket, and made his usual call out, "Zubat!" the ball was thrown to the marble flooring, and out came Zubat. Since Sean's Pokemon was now out, Natasha had also made her introduction to the battle.
"Sounds easy enough, knowing you. Show 'em, Tentacool!" she also got a PokeBall from her jeans, and thrown it to the point of where the Pokemon would battle. Out came the blue jellyfish with small eyes, who was more than ready for a battle.
Because both Pokemon were now ready to battle each other, one of them needed to start off with a command to use. Blaine and Jenny were at the side, both cheering on Sean, but this did not put Natasha off. Natasha had started the battle off,
"Let's get it started. Use Supersonic, Tentacool!" the weird-looking jellyfish had listened very well to this command, and had got to work immediately by making a terribly high-pitched noise, which both Sean and Natasha had prepared for by putting fingers in their ears. Unfortunately for her, Zubat had blocked out this sound for now, therefore dispelling the confusion of Supersonic.
"Aw man! That was such a fluke!" although, she couldn't expect much since Supersonic wasn't the most accurate move.
"That, or, you could just not be very good, or as good as me. Anyway, Zubat, use your Torment!" after making a comment (which didn't even get to Natasha), Sean had made a command for Zubat, who fluttered its wings even faster to show it was going to do something. Then, Zubat moved forward towards Tentacool, to then make the odd chatting motion with a sort of speech. This chatter adjetated Tentacool, and had caused the effect of not letting it use the same attack twice in a row.
"Well that doesn't matter. Not like I would use the same attack in a row, would it Sean? Never mind. Use Bubblebeam!" finally, there was an attack being used which was going to do damage. Tentacool had immediately shot out a ray of bubbles, a long, strong, and very fast travelling beam. This ray had shot Zubat effectively, but had barely got it nearly down yet.
"Erm... yeah, it's gotta take a lot more than that, I'm afraid... Let's do it, Zubat. Use Wing Attack!" this was Zubat's strongest attack it had, so it would be the key to winning for him. Zubat flew back over to Tentacool, then Zubat had struck both wings on Tentacool's rough body. What a hard shot it was, as that had made Tentacool strain its eyes for a moment.
"And this battle has just begun." Sean had bragged to his mum, his girlfriend, and more importantly, Blaine. However, just because his girlfriend was not as strong doesn't mean she was giving up - far from it.
"It has, so watch this. Tentacool, use Acid!" while this was not her strongest, and Bubblebeam was, she was sure that this would do the trick. There was one thing she forgot, which was now inevitable since Tentacool had already shot out the gunk at explosive speed. When the gunk had hit Zubat, nothing had even worked out. All Zubat did was shook of the Acid, with no effect taken. The thing she forgot, was that Zubat was a Poison-type, making the attack way less effective than it could be.
"Arghh, I should have remembered..." there was a regret in her voice, which proved the choice she made was wrong.
"Well, I guess it's inevitable now. Zubat, use Wing Attack again!" as Zubat's strongest attack, it would be the way forward since it would do more damage. As a response, Zubat flew back to Tentacool, once again sliding both wings across Tentacool's body. The danage done was more than the previous attack, and the battle was getting closer to the end as it went on.
"Alright then, it's time I made this more serious. Use Supersonic again!" this attack was used before by Natasha, only it had missed. Perhaps this time it would hit. Tentacool had made another high-pitched scream, which once again Sean and Natasha put their fingers in their ears, then the Supersonic ended, Zubat unnaffected once again.
"Not again!" she was complaining since her strategic attack had missed again, she was now quite annoyed it wasn't going her way.
"Oh well. Let me try, Zubat, you try using Supersonic!" Zubat also had the same attack, so it was entirely worth a try for him. Like Tentacool, Zubat had made a high-pitched scream, this time, this Supersonic was successful, and had made Tentacool wave its tentacles about to show it wasn't feeling normal.
"Well then, I guess things are going to get a little harder for you now, Natasha." Sean was bragging even more, to the fact that he had almost won the first part of the battle.
"Like that matters. You haven't won yet. Tentacool, use Constrict!" it wan't Tentacool's strongest attack at all, but it would have been better than using Acid. Unfortunately for Natasha, due to the confusion state, Tentacool had failed to attack Zubat. And much worse, Tentacool had struck the tentacles across its own body. While this didn't hurt physically, the shock was quite painful.
"What a shame. Looks like it's down to me to finish off Tentacool, but I guess things could change on the next Pokemon, eh? Finish it off with Wing Attack, Zubat!" the final attack Zubat would have to use in this battle, since Sean was far too confident things would work out. Zubat immediately responded once again, flew to Tentacool and had taken two slashes with its wings, which had took Tentacool out completely, leaving the jellyfish on the floor with crossed-eyes.
"Aww man! Better luck on the next Pokemon I guess... Come back in, Tentacool." Natasha retreated Tentacool, leaving Sean to do the same with Zubat, after he congratulated it. Now it was time for the next Pokemon of the battle, both had made up their minds on which one they're going to use.

Chapter 2: Risen Rivalry, Part 1!
Chapter Song:

Warren pocketed his Pokeballs as he wandered out of the gym. Blaine had been kind enough to allow Warren to zap them in a Pokecentre Machine that he owned. While Elekid and Poliwag were still a little tired, all of his Pokemon were back to fighting fitness, which would be useful if he ran into any wild Pokemon on the way back. Or any trainers for that matter... Just as Warren stepped out of the door, someone stepped in. The two collided, and fell down. "Watch where you're going!", Warren said.

"Sorry....I was just here to challenge the leader. I'm Jasper", the boy replied. "Battle the leader, huh? Well, good luck. I only just beat him and I'm the best trainer I know. I bet you wouldn't stand a chance!"

"Oh yeah? How'd you do it? Annoy the hell out of the gym leader until he gave you the badge?", Jasper answered, getting angry now. Warren raised an eyebrow.

"Please, kid, I've won all of my badges out of fair battles. Well, apart from when I tortured Misty's Staryu...but that was different. My skills have carried me this far. That's why I've beaten the gym leader and you're just about to lose to him."

"Is that right?" Jasper asked. "Fine then. I'll show you......what's your name? Whatever it is, let's battle!"

"It's Warren. Anyway, what sort of battle were you thinking...three on three should be enough for me to put you in your place!"

"Sure, three on three! GO, Ditto!" Jasper topssed up a Pokeball, and out came his helpful purple blob.

Warren's hand hovered over his Pokeballs. Whatever he chose, Ditto would copy it. He needed a Pokemon which could battle against its own type. Gastly was too obvious and would be weak to the ghost-type attacks...so who? "Poliwag!" he shouted, "Let's go! Start this battle with Double Slap!" Poliwag burst from the ball, grinning in anticipation of the battle. Charging, it leaped into the air and spun, swiping at the Ditto with its large tail.

"We won't let that happen.....Ditto, Transform then Doubleslap!" Ditto transformed into Poliwag, and mirrored its move. The two attacks collided, nullifying each other and both of the Poliwag jumped back, unharmed. Warren narrowed his eyes. He had to get into a position where the attack couldn't be mirrored as well as the Pokemon.

"Water Gun on the ground!" he shouted and Poliwag fired a stream of water straight down, catapulting the small tadpole high into the sky. As he reached his peak, Warren bellowed another order: "Body Slam!" Poliwag spun around, facing downwards and falling at an incredible rate, heading straight for the other Poliwag.

"Okay Ditto, dodge, and then Body Slam!" Ditto moved out of the way, just in time, and the Poliwag crashed into the ground. But just as it used Body Slam, it tripped on a pebble and crashed into the volcano-side. "Ditto!" Warren growled as his Poliwag smashed into the ground, then burst out laughing as the other one tripped over and stumbled into the cliff. "Water Gun!" he shouted and Poliwag picked itself up, shook its head angrily, then fired a jet of water straight at its opponent. Ditto flung itself at the Poliwag, still in its Poliwag form, and the two started all-out brawling on the ground. After rolling around, beating the crap out of each other, both of them sprung apart. Water-type attacks weren't going to work, it seemed. Time for a Pokemon switch.
"Poliwag, return!" Warren shouted, "Let's go, Weepinbell!" The plant burst from its ball as Poliwag returned, its mouth gaping wide.

"Sleep Powder!" Weepinbell puffed itself up, then exhaled a huge cloud of blue powder that drifted towards the opposing tadpole. While Ditto had been on the ground, it transformed back to normal.

"Okay, Transform!" Just before Ditto fell asleep, it transformed into a Weepinbell. Jasper returned Ditto, and sent out another Pokemon. "Now, Pix!" Jasper's Vulpix, Pix, came running out of its Pokeball. "Ember!" Weepinbell moaned as the cinders burnt into its body, leaving small scorch marks. Warren growled. Weepinbell wasn't exactly mobile and at a type disadvantage, it didn't stand much chance. Holding out a Pokeball, he called it back, then grabbed another.

"Gastly, let's go!" he shouted, "Use Sucker Punch!" Grinning, the cloud of gas erupted from its Pokeball, forming a tendril of smog into a very solid fist which it swung straight at Pix.

"Pix, ROAR!", Jasper shouted, but it was to late. Pix flew up into the air, about to fall to her death in a pool of lava nearby. Suddenly, as soon as Pix was about to reach the lava, it let out a huge roar, clearing the lava, and making a small circle that Pix landed in. 'Now...EMBER!" Pix spun around, sucking up lava from around the pool, and launching a big blast of fire at the Gastly. The ghost screamed in pain as the flames cut through its gaseous body, wounding it.

"Flash Fire," Warren gasped. Pix's ability was letting it power up from the heat. "Alright, let's use Confuse Ray!" he shouted and Gastly's eye's glowed, firing out befuddling rays of light.

"Pix!" Jasper called, as the Pokemon's eyes turned bright blue. "Wait a second......Pix, Confuse Ray!" Warren couldn't help laughing as Gastly's pupils dilated hugely and it spun around, completely befuddled. After all, it wasn't every day that you got to see a fox and a ghost acting as though they were drunk.

"Use Lick!" he shouted crossing his fingers, then ducked as Gastly's tongue swiped the space his head had been just second earlier.

"Not on ME!" he added furiously, as Gastly spun around, its tongue still flailing wildly.

"Pix....use Roar!", Jasper ordered, hoping for something good. Gastly froze, its tongue millimetres from Pix's nose as the fox erupted into a mad howl. Cringing, it flew backwards and hid behind Warren.

"For GOD'S SAKE!" he yelled, annoyed, "You're a GHOST! You don't get scared by a growling fox! Now, use Curse!" Begrudgingly, the ghost braced itself as a tendril of its gas slowly formed into a solid blade in front of it. Gastly winced and growled angrily as the spear pierced the centre of its smog-like form. Gaseous blood, lighter than air, flowed out of the insubstantial wounds and over Pix as Gastly shook its head and winced in pain. Jasper cringed as well, watching the poor ghost wince in pain for its trainer. By now both of the Pokemon had snapped out of confusion, and the curse had probably already been laid, seeing as Pix looking puzzled and scared.

"Pix, you gotta pull through, use Ember!" More flames flew out of its mouth, but Gastly wasn't going to take another hit. Grinning ghoulishly, he dispersed, practically disappearing as his gaseous body blew into pieces and the flames landed harmlessly on the path. Warren smiled as Gastly reformed, barely hurt by the attack.

"Alright, Night Shade!" Warren ordered, pointing dramatically at Pix. Gastly quickly summoned a ball of dark energy, then fired it straight at Pix as it crackled with black lightning.

"Pix!", Jasper cried, but suddenly, he had an idea. "Switch out!" Just before the Night Shade hit, Pix disappeared in a red flash. "Jigglypuff, let's go! Sing!" Warren grimaced as Gastly blinked, then closed its eyes and slowly started snoring, the small pink fluffball lullaby-ing it to sleep.

"Return, Gastly," he called, "Let's go...Poliwag! Use Water gun!"

"Jigglypuff, dodge!" Jigglypuff swiftly moved out f the way. The two Pokemon stood, glaring at each other, when suddenly, a noise was heard from the Volcanic Path. Something was coming.

OOC: Betcha won't be expecting THIS :D

"Gri!" Warren gasped as suddenly, a pile of sludge erupted between the two battling Pokemon and swallowed the entire jet of water. Poliwag stepped back, confused as more and more formed between Warren and Jasper.

"Koooffing!" Warren spun around to see a huge Koffing slowly floating up the path, a nasty leer on his face. He gulped nervously. There were badly outnumbered - there were about twenty Grimer and that Koffing looked mean. But why were they so angry?

"Hey, kid," Warren called, frowning, "You got any idea what these guys want?"

"Yeah..." Jasper answered then he gulped. "They want me." Warren raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, dude, because that isn't even slightly weird. Seriously, why are they so annoyed?"

"Well, I kind of....destroyed them when I came through the path...and...uhhh...."

"Nice one...don't worry, I've got a plan." Warren turned to face the Koffing, who seemed to be leading the Grimer.

"You want that guy over there, I think. Bye now." Turning, Warren turned confidently to leave, then groaned as several Grimer hurried in front of him, blocking his escape. Facing the Koffing again, he took on a threatening tone.

"Alright, I'm getting pretty pissed off now. So you've got until three to tell your little piles of muck to get out of our way. One...two...three!" Warren sighed. "I warned you." Then he punched the Koffing in the face.

The Koffing didn't like that, not at all. It flared up, and launched a big ball of poison at Warren. Coughing, he wiped the purple sludge off his face as the Koffing sniggered. He growled angrily.
"Let's go guys!" he shouted, releasing his other five Pokemon - Weepinbell, Gastly, Cubone, Elekid and Venonat. The team looked around, worried as they realised how badly outnumbered they were. Warren gritted his teeth. A fight wasn't going to end well for them - he had to try and get out of this.
"Look," he spat, acting a lot more confident than he felt, "I don't want this to get nasty, but if you keep pushing it, you're going down. So move it, now, before I get really angry." Koffing raised an eyebrow, then laughed. It barked a short order and the Grimer began to converge on the two trainers and their Pokemon.

"Good idea. Warren...." Jasper sent out his other 5 Pokemon. "Get ready!"

"Right, kid, if we're gonna get out of this, we need to work together. And that means you do everything I say!" Warren shouted, "I've got an idea. Elekid, start building up your power, but hold onto it for as long as you can. The rest of you, we need to form a protective circle around him, protect him until he's ready to let the lightning loose!" Nodding, the others slowly closed around Elekid, who was spinning his arms wildly as sparks flew between his prongs.
"Oh, crap," Warren gasped suddenly. The Grimer had converged between the two trainers, forming a solid wall. He gulped.
"Jasper?" he shouted, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, but you have Ditto, Pix, and Clefairy! I only have the Nido's, and Jigglypuff, and there getting closer. We gotta fight for ourselves, use my Pokemon good!" Warren gritted his teeth, looking at the thick barrier which separated them. He needed to blast his way right through.

"Venonat, Sludge Bomb!" he shouted and the bug broke away from the circle, leaping into the air and hurling ball after ball of thick, poisonous slime. The Grimer winced as it struck them and Warren seized the opening.
"Water Gun, Poliwag!" The tadpole advanced and fired a huge jet of water straight at the distracted group of Grimer. Taken by surprise, they were blasted completely out of the way and Warren charge through the opening, the Pokemon in tow. Growling angrily, the Grimer reformed. This battle wasn't over yet...

Meanwhile, Jasper, Jigglypuff, and the Nido's were cornered against a pool of lava. "Jigglypuff, Sing, Nido's, Peck and Scratch", he ordered. The Pokemon followed commands, knocking out a few Grimer, but suddenly, a force knocked Jasper down, falling towards the lava.
"Vine Whip!" Warren yelled instinctively and Weepinbell sprung forwards, its shoot wrapping around jasper's wrist as he fell. The plant was quickly pulled off its feet by the sudden jerk, but Warren grabbed onto it and gradually pulled the two of them back to solid ground.
"Gri!" Spinning, he noticed that a group of several Grimer was closing in on Elekid, who was desperately trying to hold onto the pure power.
"Cubone, Bone Club!" he shouted and the rodent jumped up, swatting away the living goo with its thick club. Warren turned to Jasper as the Grimer reformed into a tight crescent, pinning them against the mountain side.
"Well, now what?"

"If there's one thing I've learned about Grimer, is that they're made of sludge. So...." Jasper moved his leg, and kneed the Grimer in the eyes, both of them falling out and the Grimer melting into nothing. The two met with their Pokemon. "Okay, aim for the eyes!" Warren rolled his eyes.

"Grimer? Made of sludge? I never would have guessed," he remarked sarcastically, pounding his fist into his palm as he stepped towards the nearest enemy. "Elekid, how's it going?" The little Pokemon just grunted in reply.

"Good...Alright, Poliwag, Water Gun; Cubone, Bone Club; Gastly, Night Shade; Venonat, Sludge Bomb; Weepinbell, Vine Whip!" The Pokemon let off a barrage of their attacks and the Grimer fell left, right and centre. It wasn't all going well, though. As Cubone swung at one of them, it engulfed them small animal completely and Warren dashed over, reaching right into the living pile of goo to pull out the coughing rodent. Grimacing, he returned it to the Pokeball. Physical attacks weren't going to work so well against these foes...

"Warren, we'll go after Koffing, you take Ditto, Jigglypuff, and Clefairy! Got it?" Warren sneered.

"I'm fine without your girly Pokemon. In fact," he paused to boot an approaching Grimer in the face, "I think you're going to need them more than I do...Elekid...I think its time!" Screaming, the small Pokemon leapt into the air, arms still spinning. Warren blanched as it ran straight into the nearest Grimer, becoming completely engulfed in its body. The others grinned and piled on top of it, hiding the small Pokemon completely.
"ELEKID?" Warren shouted desperately. He didn't need to worry. With an incredible booming sound, the pile of Grimer exploded and the blobs of purple sludge flew into the air, revealing a slightly injured but very angry Elekid, cackling madly. Warren laughed as he looked around, noticing that the few Grimer still conscious were fleeing, terrified. Several yards away, the Koffing floated, its face a mixture of fear and anger. Warren gestured to it and turned to Jasper.
"He's all yours." With that, e spun on his heel and marched off, the sounds of a battle erupting behind him. Just one more badge to go!

"Wait, Warren!" Jasper cried, but it was to late. Warren was gone.

Wriggle...

Wriggle...

...

Jen felt her breath hitch as the red and white pokeball stopped after only two shakes, clearly thinking it was about to be released. By her side, her pokemon watched the same instensity, as if hoping that their stare would force the pokeball to remain still.

...wriggle...

...PING!

A collective sigh broke threw their group as Jen eagerly picked up the closed pokeball. "Ponyta is ours!" she boasted triumphantly, thrusting the pokeball high into the air.

Cubone and Ekans gave loud cheers while Drowzee folded her arms and looked smug. "Droz."

"And this is just the beginning!" Jen continued vibrantly, eyes glittering with excitement. She could feel it as she gazed at the pokeball holding this rare pokemon. She was on a roll. "To the gym!"

"Ekanss!" Ekans hissed excitedly, wrapping around her shoulders in hopes of finding the gym from a higher view.

"Cu! Cu!" Cubone cried, skipping forward and twirling his bone expertly.

Drowzee, cool and collected as usual, followed at a much slower pace with a small huff, unable to understand why these beings always had to be so happy all the time. Yea, sure, they just managed to capture a rare shiny pokemon, and a fire type at that as they needed one, but seriously, a little control please.

"I think we're getting close," Jen panted, wiping off an ungodly amount of sweat on her brow after over a half hour of walking.

The higher she got, the hotter it got. It was understandable as they were going into the volcano to battle the gym leader. While it was exciting to be going into a volcano, it made Jen worry a little. What sort of pokemon would Blaine use? Obviously fire type, but even some fire types couldn't survive a actual fall into burning hot magma. At the thought of magma, Jen bit her lip, suddenly glad that Gloom was in his pokeball, but she still had to decide who she could use...

Her eyes glanced over at Cubone, taking in his happy jumping. He was barely sweating, and seemed to fairing well with the heat. Being a ground type really helped, so he was definitely a good choice, but who else? What if Blaine asked for a full six on six? She didn't even have six!

Now that thought was enough to make Jen blush.

Almost every single trainer out there had at least six by the third or fourth gym. Rather depressing indeed, but Jen had great trust in her friends. But still... who? Ekans seemed to be enjoying the heat, being cold blooded and all, but Ekans was never one with brute strength. Drowzee maybe, especially with her psychic abilities... or maybe even her newly captured Ponyta...

"Dorzww," Drowzee said, interrupting Jen's thoughts. Jen looked down to see the yellow and brown pokemon point at an opening in the mountain. Right above the cave opening, in hard to see words, was 'GYM' scratched into the rock. "Dzee," Drowzee sighed, strutting forward.

Amused smile and determined look in place, Jen walked in with a deep breath, ready to take on her next challenge. "Hello!" she bellowed, nearly jumping as her hello echoed througout the area. There was an arena right in the middle of the room, surrounded by burning hot magma that nearly made Jen soaked with sweat.

"Who's there?" an irritated voice snapped, causing Jen to jump this time. As she turned around, she was met with the sight of a bald man with an outrageous mustach and lab coat. He gave her a pecular look that made Jen uncomfortable.

"I'm here for the gym battle," she said firmly. "Are you the gym leader?"

"I am," the man said, nodding. "I am Blaine, and my, there has suddenly been in an income of trainers lately. You one of Oak's trainers?"

"No, I'm--"

"Never mind then," Blaine interrupted, looking bored and impatient at once. It was a look Jen never thought possible. He gave her a cold smile. "Let us begin..."

OOC: Short, but I just needed to get to the gym so I can catch up. Will be going away on the 2-6. Will update at least once or twice more before those dates, hopfully.

Everything was peaceful. It was a beautiful day. No one was in pain, no one was crying. Everyone was having fun. It was perfect. Sam stood watching all this over a hill. This was truely the perfect day here on Earth. He marveled in the beauty of it. He sat down to take a short nap in the sun. It was really bright and warm today. Once again he thought how perfect today was. Then, as though to break the serenity, a scream pierced the air. Sam stood up and grabbed for a pokeball. Nothing was there.

"What the heck? Where are my pokeballs?" he asked. He searched himself all over as a man in black appeared. He wore a black shirt, black jeans and a black sweatshirt with a hood over his head. Even his shoes were black.

"Oh, looking for these? Well, kiss them good bye," he said. Sam looked up. The man was holding his pokeballs.

"Give me those!" Sam yelled, charging at the man. The man simply laughed and threw them over his shoulder. Sam looked down. It wasn't the peaceful place he'd seen before. His pokeballs were headed to what appeared to be a volcanic pit, and there was nothing he could do about it.

"Why did you do this? Who are you?!" Sam yelled at the man, fighting back tears as he heaerd the magma hiss. His pokemon were gone.

"Why I did...you can figure out yourself. As for who I am...well, you should know that best," the man said, taking off his hood. Sam gasped. The face under it was none other than his.

"That...it doesn't...make...sense..." Sam said, confused by this.

"Heh...it will. Eventually. I'll tell you this, though. I'm not the part of you anyone knows. Not even you. I'm the true you. The you that no one sees. You'll just have to find out the rest yourself. And remember, in the end, no one matters but you. No one else. I'm the one who helped you get this far. I'm the one who made you run from home. I'm the one who helped you survive on your own. Remember that," the man said.

"Wait...wait!" Sam yelled, but it was too late. It was fading. Everything was...even him. He was being sucked into the darkness

"No! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" Sam yelled. Suddenly, he snapped up. The pokecenter room formed around him.

"It...it was just a dream. Yeah. Just...a...dream. No...not a dream...a nightmare. Well, I guess I could ask someone about it...Professor Maple, maybe? Blaine? No...there's only one guy who might understand how it felt to lose my pokemon. Yeah, there was the guy calling himself me, but losing my pokemon. That guy...Warren. I wish I could find him again. Well, better to just shake it off. Besides. I'll be late for my boat ride. I'm on a fishing ride. Maybe I'll be able to get my mind off of things..." Sam said, trying to calm himself down.

He headed outside and ran to the dock. His pokeballs were safe and on his belt. Everyone was fine. It was just a nightmare. He'd live. He arrived at the docks quickly. The fishing boat wasn't far.

"Hey. You Sam?" a voice said. Sam looked around. He spotted a guy on the boat looking at him.

"Yeah. You the guy who's in charge of the boat?" Sam asked in reply. The guy nodded.

"Get on. We're leaving soon. You got a rod?" the guy asked. Sam shook his head.

"Eh. We'll lend you one. Just be careful. Well, come on," the guy said. Sam walked up onto the boat. It was actually pretty well sized. He could feel the engines running. They were about to leave port. Sure enough, they jetted out of port and right onto the route to Pallet. Sam quickly found the guy again.

"So. We stopping to fish soon?" Sam asked the guy. He nodded and handed Sam a rod. It was new looking and nice.

"Thanks. So. Any tips?" Sam asked.

"Sure. First, learn that you need to give it time to get a solid bite, not just nibble. Also, when you finally get a bite, pull it back to hook it. Then, just reel in. You might have some trouble getting in with a fight, but you should be fine. Then all you have to do is fight it and catch it. Well, we're about to stop. Good luck," the guy said.

"Thanks again. You too," Sam said, going to main deck.

The boat was slowing down now and he wanted to see what it was like up there. Two sailors were leaving, which Sam assumed meant the anchor was down. A couple of lines flew out into the water. Sam knew it was time now. Heading up, he tossed in his line. The water was really clear, so he could see it going down. He sat there, watching his line. It wasn't long before he got a nibble. He was about to pull when he remembered the tip. Give it a chance to bite. Sure enough, the pulling got really strong. Sam knew it was time. He pulled straight up. The hook had to be stuck now. He started to reel it in. About 5 minutes later, he was finally almost done. He ripped the rod up as something landed on deck. A purple shell.

"Agh. Nothing...well, time to throw back in...whoa!" Sam yelled. The shell had flown forward and hit his leg. He could see a pink tongue in it. It was a Shellder.

"Okay then. Vul!" Sam yelled. He tossed a pokeball and his fire fox pokemon appeared. It was time for Vulpix to have a good fight.

"Shel!" Shelder cried as it charged forward. It aimed to hit Vul, but Sam already had a plan.

"Go for it with Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Vul easily ran past the on coming shell pokemon. It was easy enough to dodge for Vul. A slow moving object wasn't any trouble at all.

"Okay! Let's weaken that move for the future! Will-o-Wisp!" Sam yelled. Vul stood there a second, then a blue ball of flame flew forward and collided with Shellder. It looked like it did nothing for a second, but then its shell lit up with blue flames. It was burnt.

"Yes! Now, let's use your Ember attack and Quick Attack in combonation to use your Flame Tackle!" Sam yelled. Vulpix charged forward with its body flaming. It flew forward and hit the Shellder with hits body, which caused it to fly into the boats wall. Sam didn't know it, but sailors were gathering around. They were interested in how this kid was fighting.

"S..h...EL!" Shellder yelled, pulling its body back into its shell. It was using Withdraw.

Sam silently cursed under his breath. The thing understood him completely. It knew he wasn't going to stop physical attacks. Still, he had a plan. So many people were watching now, but he didn't see them. He knew he could take it.

"Alright. We can do this. Now, we're gonna have to be careful. This has to be done just right or its gonna get away, now, ready?" Sam asked. Vul nodded and got into ready position. It was crouching and ready to jump.

Shellder sat there, unsuspecting of what was about to happen. Sam laughed to himself. Now it was time to catch it. He watched it carefully. He could tell that the front part of the shell was the place to strike. In three...two...one...now!

"Go! Use Tail Whip to spin Shellder!" Sam yelled. Vul charged forward and flicked its tail, causing the shell to spin. Sam quickly prepared his next attack. The shell was just barely open so it could get air. Shellder was getting dizzy.

"Now! Hypnosis!" he yelled. Vul's eyes turned purple, and then Sam saw a purple glow from in the shell. His trick had worked. He'd gotten Shellder asleep. Now to deal some more damage...

"Go for it with Ember!" he yelled. Vul charged forward and spit flames at Shellder, who lit up even more thanks to the flames already on it. It was taking real damage from that. Now all he had to do was finish up.

"Ready? We're gonna end this here. Use Tail Whip to throw it, then use Ember and Roar to light it up!" Sam yelled.

Vul stuck his tail in the shell and spun around and threw it. Shellder was flying through the air. Vulpix quickly shot a burst of flame at Shellder, who was quickly inveloped. Sam saw his chance. Shellder was awake.

"Go! Confuse Ray, then Hypnosis!" Sam yelled a second too late. Shellder jumped forward and crashed into Vul. He flew back and stopped. Sam was amazed at how much stronger he was getting. He could handle attacks easily now.

"Go! Use those attacks! Keep going!" Sam yelled. Vul nodded and a ray of light seemed to fly out of it, causing Shellder to start flailing. Vul took advantage of this to put it asleep with another flash of its eyes. Shellder was completely asleep now.

"Okay! Its time! Pokeball!" Sam yelled. He tossed the pokeball at Shellder, who was quickly pulled in. The ball shook violently back and forth, as Sam waited to see how he did.
