    [PokeCommunity.com] Bird is the word

Anyway, what the thread is really about is the appearance of the Kanto Bird legendary trio (Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno) in Kalos. After defeating the Elite 4, one of these birds will roam about Kalos. Which one depends on the starter you chose in the beginning of the game. And after encountering it 10 times, the bird will settle down inside Sea Spirit's Den and behave like a normal legendary.

The appearance of the Kanto bird trio in Kalos makes them the most frequently appearing legendaries in the games, being able to be caught in Red/Blue/Yellow, FireRed/LeafGreen, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and X/Y.

What did y'all think of their appearance in the games this time around?

For me, I ended up catching Moltres because I started with a Froakie.

I thought the appearence of the legendary bird could have been better explained.

Why exactly are Kanto legendaries in Kalos? Then again, why are they in pretty much every game? lol

I suppose since their birds they can fly wherever they want.

The real question is why the hell is Mewtwo in Kalos.

It's Mewtwo- he'll go wherever he wants.

I was pretty confused at first, but I liked it. Those three original legendary birds were actually some of my favorite legends. Namely Articuno. (I like cold) And it was neat of them to give us access to them in 6th gen; especially for anyone without pokebank. My only qualm was that which you got was arbitrarily based on your starter; which guaranteed nobody suspected going in. And, if you do know beforehand - if you want a specific bird without trading, you have to go through the whole game with a particular starter that may not be your favorite.

But hey, they're there. Which is nice.

I found the appearance of the birds kinda interesting, but given how few legendaries 6th Gen introduced in general it was nice to see them thrown in, along with Mewtwo. I picked Froakie in my game so I ended up catching Moltres, which isn't really my fave of the three but its flames surely look intense.

Still, it is cool you can get the birds in the game and they are all fairly good catches.

I thought chasing them was kind of tedious, due to both the changed roaming mechanics and the lack of a touch-screen location indicator. Seriously, that was a godsend in the fourth gen, and I have no idea why they decided to stop doing it.

I don't know how I felt about having to chase them throughout Kalos. I know some people are sick of roaming Pokémon (which may be why B2W2 was the first game since Generation I to not have any), but I can sort of understand the meaning behind it. Doesn't make it any more fun, though.

Welp now that song's going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day

The appearance of the Kanto bird trio in Kalos makes them the most frequently appearing legendaries in the games (along with Mewtwo), being able to be caught in Red/Blue/Yellow, FireRed/LeafGreen, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and X/Y.

    They also appear in Platinum.

Anyway, their inclusion was nice, but I would've preferred that they NOT roam around the region, if only because I've had several Shiny chains interrupted by Moltres...which could easily be solved by finally chasing the thing down and catching it, but it doesn't make it any less annoying.

which of those do I get if I started with the fire starter?

I've heard in the past that having them interrupt your chain doesn't break it.

It's nice to see them around, but I believe it'd be nice if they had made other trios appear every once in a while. Aside from legendary birds, there are many other selection for them to choose from, such as beasts, kami, elves, and so forth. I understand that they're set to be in their respective regions, but it doesn't exactly seem to be a good argument, considering that they're making birds roam and having them look nonexclusive.

Nonetheless, it was nice to see them! I've yet to capture them in my latest run, however, but I'm not too concerned, as I already have a copy of Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres laying in one of my PC boxes, haha.

I wish that all 3 were available in a single play-through, because compared to previous generations, having a meager 3 legendaries available per game (4 with the Diancie event this Monday) is pretty lame.

Obviously ORAS will be compensating for that.

Well, 5 actually isn't it? Xerneas or Yveltal, Zygarde, A bird, Mewtwo and then Diancie

Ah, right. I always forget about Mewtwo.

But if you compare that to, say, Pokemon Black (3 Swords of Justice, 3 Genies, Reshiram, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meleotta, Genesect), 5 legendaries is less than half of that number.

but if you compare it to gen 1, it's right on par! ;-) But it's unfair to include Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect on your list if you're not going to include Volcanion and Hoopa an addition to Diancie as all six were event only pokemon. It's a deceptive comparison. After all, Genesect wasn't released until Black 2 and White 2 came out: https://www.serebii.net/events/dex/649.shtml the first phase of the current gen has only JUST come a year old, the second phase (ORAS) hasn't even been released yet and the third phase (Z) hasn't even been announced yet, so it's not a fair comparison at all if you're going to be throwing in the event only pokemon too.

Personally, I kinda wish that the Kanto birds weren't in X/Y. Besides the fact that I hate roaming legendaries (even though they do settle down eventually), I've grown tired of seeing them. Maybe it's because I'm an old-timer, but seeing them in-game almost every single generation grows stale after a while. Give some other Pokemon a chance! Zapdos is the only good one anyway

I don't really care for them much but that's a few more pokemon you don't have to worry as much to get into your pokedex. I can't wait for all those 6th Gen caught legendaries in ORAS.

You can actually breed a Hoopa if you migrate a Missingno from FireRed to X/Y and use a perfect IV Ditto as the other parent. You have to hold down Y, L, R, Select, Down, and Right when you talk to the Daycare Man, though.

Well, according to the movie, Mewtwo can fly ;)
