heh, netto was so right.

I had sorta put this anime on the backburner after I got caught up with the manga. Having the "thrill" taken out of a thriller doesn't exactly work very well usually haha. So I put off watching the latest episode for a good amount of time. Didn't watch episode 7 till today.

But damn, I had forgotten how well the anime's been handling the manga till now. At the point of story that we are now in the anime, I was in the same situation as most of you people. Was divided on who the murderer was. Or not. Won't say anything about it more than that but yeah, I did like how the series made us all question things so much. :p

Kayo and Satoru's moments this episode were so d'aww worthy I don't even know what to say. Especially the part where they both dozed off while sitting close together with their faces THIS close to each other. <3

Actually the killer was revealed in the opening animation (about 2:26 to 2:27), so I've kinda been spoiled. Nonetheless I love what the anime has been doing so far. The latest episode was so good. Kayo's mini flashback made me shed tears. ;a;

I actually think that I like the manga better, as the anime is making it realllyyyyyy obvious who the villain is and spending too much time on some stuff and not enough time on others.

Episode 9 - Closure

I really the emotive imagery in Kayo's closure. The free bird flying through the air, as she goes to live with her grandma, and the music. Just pure and poignant. There's also heavily obvious foreshadowing to the serial killer here.

The next episode should probably be more filled with action, I presume, since there's only three episodes left to save like 2 people (at the very least).

But it was so heartwarming, and considering that he has the previous timelines memories of the past 15 years, it's not as if he really missed anything in life. Heck he's even back as a manga writer. Though personally it would have been nice to have him reveal his revivals to his friends so they wouldn't treat him like a 10 year old lol

Wow, they crammed about 40+ chapters worth of content into 12 episodes. That's quite a feat...bit then again things are coming to a head.

Well, we knew that much, the problem now is WHY.

31 chapters covered in 10 episodes. 13 chapters more to go. And two episodes. I thought they rushed a lot of things to cover stuff in episode 10 but it turns out they covered only 4 chapters. They'll have to shoehorn 6-7 chapters into each episode for it to work out and I'm not sure if that'll really work out.

Here's to hope the manga being slightly padded out (yes, there are scenes in there that could be cut without any substantial loss) helps its case. Otherwise I can see this turning into another Charlotte. And that'd be a fucking shame.

Also, the reveal was much more tense in the manga tbh. XD; I could just feel Satoru's tension.

I've completed the manga series (skipped one chapter), btw. Overall thoughts on the series -

Don't judge me for skipping one chapter (I skipped 43 since the final chapter was out and 43 merely contained the final confrontation which, frankly, I didn't care all that much about) but I feel like my overall expectations from this series were VERY high. I think it is a nice 7.5-8/10 series with some amazing direction and soundtrack (in the anime) but nowhere close to what I initially thought this series would probably end up being. All in all, I'm disappointed with the story to a degree. And not just because of some of the *events* that rubbed most people the wrong way, no...

His revivals never get explained at all. The mystery wasn't exactly all that "mysterious". And the story as a whole just didn't have any kind of IMPACT on me. Like, it is great because the anime staff maintained some really high production standards. But the series just didn't leave a lasting impression on me. I'm talking the lack of any "shinsekai yori" level stuff. You'd know if you've seen it. Now that's the kind of stuff that'd make you remember that series for years. This just didn't have any of it.

Finally got around to watching episode 11...

Just what the heck is Yashiro's damage, anyways? His motive for murdering people makes absolutely no sense. The whole thing makes him seem like some kind of irrational psychopath, but when he's not in his "serial killer mode" he seems pretty rational. I think they could have given him a better motive, or at least a more believable one. Seems like they kinda just glossed over it.

That said though I think this was a great episode. Great to see that his friends made it out of the ordeal alive and, for the most part, he accomplished his goal. And like with a lot of the other episodes, I've been effectively left in suspense. Looking forward to the next episode!

I really wanted to love this show because it has great animation, soundtrack,a charming main character, and a lovely cast. But what the flying f*ck, that's not a valid reason for killing people and whatever. It makes the story look so plain and simple.

Really disappointed.

Anyway, that's just one aspect of the show, I will hold to the remaining items

Everything was more or less a direct adaptation until the moment the teacher stopped those paparazzi.

It was supposed to be Airi who stopped them which sent him back to a 2 year coma. And the back story was his brother influenced him a lot in how he turned out. Go read it, it's Chapter 32. The hamster bit was more of a metaphor for the culmination of his beliefs.

It was enjoyable to watch, from start to finish, but in many ways I do feel like it could have been better. Namely, Yashiro was poorly written, and as much as they built him up as this super-scary and powerful guy, he's pretty underwhelming once his true colors are revealed. I enjoyed all of the characters though, and all-in-all I'd say I liked the show :)

Now to read the manga...
