Cancelled

No, not people being "cancelled." Actual cancellations.

Specifically, it's becoming more and more common for shows to be picked up by a network or streaming service and then dropped before they can reach the end. This is something that drives me absolutely nuts. Are there any particularly glaring examples of this that infuriate you? Any thoughts on the practice in general?

Man, it's been over 20 years and I still haven't forgiven Fox for cancelling Firefly. Truely one of the greatest half seasons of tv ever, and I honestly believe if given more time and faith it would have went on to be one of the big heavy hitters of all sci fi. It was just so fantastic in every way. I actually collect and read the current comics Boom Studios are releasing, but eh, it's a bit hit and miss and doesn't quite capture the essence of the series.

Another tough one to take was the Terminator series, The Sarah Conner Chronicles. The timing of this cancellation was so enraging! They had done such a good job in season 2 of world building and added some plots and ideas that were going places and introduced some characters and concepts that were going to play a massive role in season 3, and pretty much made the final episode of season 2 a full set up for season 3 and the new direction they were going and ended on a massive cliffhanger and then.... cancelled.

Animated one that I'm sad/angry got the chop. Anyone seen or heard of Infinity train? I feel like it barely gets any mention along with all the top rated cartoon network shows and goes under the radar which is a shame because it was truely excellent. Really amazing fantasy elements, and each season was it's own story with new characters (sort of anthology style) but they were still all connected with an overarching story and certain characters returned or appeared in multiple seasons. Story, characters, animation was all fantastic and had some really big name voice actors too, it was such a good show but got cut after 4 seasons. It's one I would love for them to be able to continue in comic form because i think it would suit being a comic/graphic novel. I live in hope!

Anyway there are a host of others I could get into but I really think I'd be here all day and I'd get very bitter about it 😂
Sadly early cancellation seems to be so rampant with series these days that I've gotten used to it and don't get as invested in series as much as I used to. It's a shame.

Wasn't there when it happened, but The Owl House's season 3 getting cancelled because it didn't "fit the Disney brand" or whatever other excuse those guys came up with deeply enrages and disappointed me. I love the show and I really do believe plenty of the little flaws it has could've been solved with a full season 3 and not just three 40-minute specials. And then when the first episode of season 3 came out Disney was like "WHAAAAAAAAT?? ThE sHoW wAS POpuLaR tHiS wHOlE tImE???" Screw you, Disney. Just frickin' let the creators… I don't know… create??? Engage with the art they're creating and express their creativity how they want??

In recent years I think the ones that annoyed me the most were Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - it had gone downhill anyway due to the showrunners problems I think and also Willow on Disney+.

At least CAOS got enough notice to create a (rushed and horrible) ending, but Willow had the plug pulled without warning and after setting up a major plot line going forward.

Also with Willow, they didn't just cancel it, they removed it entirely and there is currently no legal way to watch it. I have a feeling they used it as a tax write off like Cartoon Network did with Megas XLR and we'll never see it anywhere again 😭

Wait, is that what happened with Megas XLR?!

Also, I'm still mad about The Acolyte.

I really enjoyed the Acolyte! I am very salty about that too -_-

Yeah unfortunately we won't be seeing Megas XLR any time soon...

Many people including the showrunners have tried to buy the rights since then and have always met a brick wall because it would cost CN millions. Hopefully one day it can be saved because it was awesome. This chick digs giant robots!

One of my fav youtubers/streamers played Pokemon X recently and pointed out how some ideas were similar to a TV series from the UK, called Utopia. It's not something I would recommend to everyone because it's quite violent, but the story is pretty good. It's unfortunate that they deleted the series after season 2. They seem to have made a remake on Netflix, but everyone says the original is much better.

Check out Toonami Aftermath. It's a fan project, but they stream Megas XLR every so often.
