Censoring yourself in front of friends

Have you ever had to stop yourself from swearing/cussing because a friend doesn't feel comfortable hearing the word?

I very rarely curse and the majority of my friends could care less if they say or hear a curse word. However there are a few friends who don't like hearing those words and so I pretty much have to censor myself just so they can stop feeling uncomfortable.

Same here. Actually I don't use curse/slang words much. But I do sometime if I get temper !, But I mostly use *** to censor it, I don't like using the words though. Because those words just make the bond between two friends bad, And it strength the bond of hatred between two enemies. Altering ourselves from using these words is the best way of making friends :P

I censor myself around any people, whether they're my friends, family, etc. The only time I'll curse is if I'm by myself (for whatever reason). I don't think cursing is bad, perhaps I'm just training myself to not slip up in front of the wrong person.

Cursing is not bad if your alone talking to yourself but Cursing someone whether its a friend or enemy is not a right thing.

Well sometimes cursing around your friends shows that you're comfortable around them. Plenty of times I've seen the good old "eff u", but in a loving, joking kind of way. But as the topic mentions, some people are uncomfortable with cursing to begin with.

I never encountered such situations, all of my friends know that I swear and they swear too, so we don't censor our selves around each other.

However, if I were to run into a situation where I had a friend that was uncomfortable with swearing then, I'd try to tone it down a bit to appease them and make them feel comfortable

Never felt the need to censor myself in front of my friends at all. Mainly because none of them have ever cared and swear just as much themselves haha. Though I could censor if I had a friend who didn't want me swearing around them as much as I have a pretty good filter when needed.

I don't. My family learns to tolerate it and I don't have friends that don't like swearing. If they have a problem, whoop-de-****in'-doo. Deal with it.

none of my friends really care so I don't have much of a problem. my mother once pulled the car over when I said "hell" to her so, yeah, I censor myself in front of my parents, though.

no because my friends aren't wussycakes

Besides, if your friends are going to get upset because you swear a lot, then maybe that isn't exactly the best friend to have, is it? Friends rely a lot on synergy and if you're not able to understand each other in that sort of way, then maybe you guys aren't really friends. Just saying.

The only time I censor myself is in professional environments.

I rarely swear, I may make use of profane words a little more liberally online though. There's no major censor when I do, even when I was at school or when I was at work. People are usually shocked to hear me swear. I remember my books all falling out of my locker once and I instinctively reacted saying "****" when my teacher was to my left and she was just shocked and announced to the class that she heard me swear which did amuse a few people!

Sort of. I'm generally pretty clean when it comes to swearing and my choice of language in general (I like to think of myself as a master of the euphemism {XD}), but there are certain friends I have that bring out the worst in me in that respect and there is a certain c-word that has gotten me into trouble with a couple of girls in the past.

But it's also bad the other way around. To purposely continue cursing even if your friend tells you not to.

    Wait... what? Are you sure?

    I'm positive, yes.

Well being a dick isn't okay, but if that person is going to be offput by your normal curse output it's probably the best for both of you.

Most people don't purposely curse to piss people off though past the age of 13 though.

I do this even if I'm with friends who swear are okay with it. Like I was with my friend Mario last night and he swears very often and even though I knew he'd be okay with me cursing , I still censored myself as much as possible. I think this is because most people know me as the guy who hates swear words and never really used them before. Now I'm more comfortable who cursing every now and then, but it's still not something I do often. But still everyone is so used to be me not swearing I think they'd be so shocked to hear me say the d word or the f word or s word , so usually I hold back saying those words often.

I have a similar occurrence. Back in high school, I used to curse a lot until my senior year where I toned it down. Then when I met up with high school friends at my new college, they were surprised not to hear a single curse come out of my mouth.

I don't censor myself around my friends. We're all old enough to understand that even if one person doesn't like to swear, swearing in general is not an attack on them so they're not upset.

I don't swear at work though - I also make really terrible work jokes that everyone cracks up at because adults.
