Wow it's been a while since I've worked on this challenge. Don't have much to show seeing as what all I did was the Lake of Rage stuff and beat Price. Playing so much Splatoon and college has kept me busy. Hopefully later today or tomorrow I'll put more progress into it.

Fire Red First Gym

Early game was ridiculously easy due to Shuppet's ghost typing. All was easy until that damned man in Pewter City's Gym! No not Brock...the gym trainer before him has a Sandshrew that just loved to lower my accuracy. It couldn't actually touch me but it still took me 71 turns in order to defeat it...Did you know there are no Ethers in the first two pokemarts? I do now....

Haha that's rough. Just a heads up, though, there are no ethers or elixirs in any of the marts. I just recently completed a FireRed Nuzlocke and I didn't realize it until the E4 because that's when I actually thought I might need them.

I don't know how often I'll update this, but it would be something new so it should be pretty fun.

And so I began my perilous quest to conquer the six Pokemon leagues -- where better to start than in the region of origin for my partner in this epic journey?

I awoke in the back of a strange truck, confused and alone.

I stepped out only to find out I had apparently moved to a new town in a new region. The town consisted of two houses and one larger building. Does that even count as a town?

My mother hurried me inside to help unpack and sent me up to my room to set my clock.

I came down stairs after squaring my room away and grabbing a potion from my PC. My mother was standing in front of the TV gesturing for me to come quickly. Apparently Dad was on.

Mom told me to go introduce myself to the neighbors. I did. I met a girl named May and her mother. May had to take off, though. Her father, the local Pokemon professor, needed her help in the field.

When I stepped out again, I noticed a boy standing around nervously near the path to Route 101. When I asked what was wrong, he said he heard screams. I decided to investigate.

Upon arrival on Route 101, I discovered a man being chased in circles by a puppy Pokemon.

The man screamed for me to help and instructed me to grab a Pokeball from the bag.

I did as instructed and took a random ball from the bag.

I tossed the ball toward the Poochyena and out popped a small chicken. It was a Torchic. The arrival of the new Pokemon stopped the Poochyena from chasing the man. A battle ensued.

The Torchic defeated the Poochyena rather easily, winning with just two scratches.

The man thanked me and introduced himself as Professor Birch, May's father. He invited me back to his lab and gave me the Torchic as a thank you, despite my opposition.

I headed to the next town, north to Route 101.

Upon arrival in the Oldale Pokemon Center, I headed straight to the PC and took the egg from the first box. Inside the egg was my true starter Pokemon, the Pokemon I would journey through all six regions with.

Within a few steps from the PC, the egg began to hatch. Out popped a Trapinch. I named the Trapinch Alpha, and our journey had officially begun.

I walked out of the Pokemon center and headed north to Route 103. After defeating a Wingull and a Poochyena, bringing Alpha to level 6, I found May. She challenged me to a battle.

The battle was brief, but more challenging than the previous two. Alpha has the advantage of boasting a ridiculous base 100 attack, which made its Bites extra powerful, but its dreaded base 10 speed allowed Mudkip to do its fair share of damage. In the end, Alpha claimed victory.

After the battle, we headed back to Littleroot Town and we received Pokedexes from Professor Birch.

Before heading off to begin my journey, I received my running shoes from Mom.

Upon arriving at Oldale Town again, I stopped in the mart to purchase a few potions and Antidotes before heading west to Route 102.

Stopping only to battle trainers, I flew through the route. Alpha tore through the other trainers' lineups without breaking a sweat, quickly climbing to level 10.

I soon arrived in Petalburg City and stopped in to see Dad at the gym. As we talked, a boy named Wally stopped in and asked for a Pokemon. Dad asked me to help him catch one, so I did. He caught a Ralts. I wonder how he'll do as a trainer. Honestly, If I had to guess, I'll probably never see him again. He doesn't seem like the "trainer" type.

After helping Wally, I headed further west to Route 104. After battling a Rich Boy and his level 7 Zigzagoon and picking some berries, I made my way to Petalburg Woods.

After making quick work of some pesky bug trainers, I encountered a man who worked at Devon Corp. He asked if I had any shrooms or somethign and then a man in a funny red cape tried to attack him. I stepped in and beat the man's level 9 Poochyena with ease. At this point, I'm not sure Alpha will ever be stopped.

I made my way through the remainder of Petalburg Woods, squashing a few bug trainers along the way.

Upon reaching the end of the woods and the beginning of Route 105, I stopped at the flower shop and was rewarded with a Wailmer Pail as well as a few berries. I continued through Route 105, dispatching a flower girl before reaching a bridge.

As I walked along the bridge, I locked eyes with a couple of little girls, yet they didn't want to battle. Their excuse was that I wouldn't stand a chance against their two Pokemon, but I knew they were terrified of Alpha. Realistically, why wouldn't they be? He was an undefeated champion in the making. He strikes fear into everyone and everything that stands in his way.

By the time I reached Rustboro town, Alpha was already level 14, which meant it was time for the Rustboro Gym.

The first gym trainer had a bunch of weak Geodude that didn't stand a chance against Alpha's Bites.

The next guy had just one Geodude, though it was slightly stronger than all of the other guy's Geodude. Alpha was now level 15, the same as Roxanne's Nosepass.

I had finally made it to Roxanne, the Rustboro City gym leader and the first milestone in Alpha's legendary journey.

Honestly, the battle was a little tougher than I imagined. Her Geodude was level 14 and it put up a decent fight, hitting especially hard with its Tackle. Alpha required a potion as Roxanne sent out her Nosepass.

Nosepass was annoying. It didn't hit as hard a Geodude, but it decided to spam harden for its first three turns. I countered this strategy by spamming Sand Attack. If she was going to make sure I hit her Nosepass with weak moves, I was going to make sure she didn't hit my Trapinch at all. For the remainder of the fight, I spammed Bite. Slowly but surely, Nosepass's health depleted. The process was further slowed by two potions used by Roxanne and an Oran berry, but eventually, Nosepass fell. I did it. Roxanne was defeated and I had captured my first gym badge. Alpha also leveled up to level 16.

It was a long first day of an epic journey, but it was a successful one. I decided to end there, as even demigods like Alpha need rest.

Merry Christmas eve everyone! And in case I don't get a chance to post tomorrow, Merry Christmas! :D

Hacking in a Level 5 Larvitar as my starter and just for fun, hacking to make Dunsparce (IMO the stupidest Pokemon ever) able to learn all HMs, hacking in Wild Dunsparce in Route 1 and using 2 Dunsparce HM slaves. Will this become an Ultimate challenge? Maybe. We'll see.

UPDATE: Got a Larvitar, named it Rooibus. The first Gym and up to Misty was super easy... Misty's Starmie's Water Pulse gave me grief but I beat it eventually. I'm now at the S.S. Anne. Rooibus is at Lv. 35 but I haven't let it evolve yet because as much as I love Larvitar and Tyranitar, I have a strong hatred for Pupitar... next stop Vermilion Gym

Well, I've picked up the mono challenge in my spare time over the last couple of days...and, well, I've got quite an update.

WARNING: LARGE UPDATE AHEAD

Day 2: I picked up from where I left off, standing beside a defeated Roxanne. I strolled out of the gym, shiny new badge in hand. As I walked out into the light of Rustboro Town, though, a man came scampering out from the building across from the gym. It was another freak in a red cape. He was being tailed by that same drug dealer from Petalburg Woods, too. I guess I'd better see what the commotion is about. I walk over to the man with the green thumb, whose hands were now resting on his knees as he sucked for air. He spotted me and immediately asked for my assistance again. Apparently, the guy in the cape stole something from that big building, which he called Devon Corp. I was supposed to go get it back.

Eh, it was easy enough last time. Might as well go see what's over there, anyways.

I dashed off to the route, allowing Alpha to feast upon the souls of the trainers along the way, and found myself in front of a cave. Alongside the cave entrance was an elderly man, somebody I'd seen before. That's it! It's that old guy from just outside Petalburg. I think he owns a boat or something. I approached the man and said hello. He looked worried, frightened even. He said he had been attacked by a man in a red cape, and that the man took his beloved Peeko. Sounds like that same caped crusader from Devon Corp. Now I really can't let him be. Alpha will have to strike down upon him with the wrath of a thousand men.

I ran into the cave, half expecting some kind of freaky ritual or something. No. There was nothing but a corridor, and at the end of the corridor stood the caped man with a Wingull.

"Stay back, or I'll make drumsticks out of this bird!" yelled the mysterious man.

"Not a chance." I shot back as I drew Alpha's ball from my belt. The man's eyes widened in fear, but he had no other option but to confront the ultimate beast himself, as the rules of the Pokemon league forced him to send his Pokemon to their certain demise at the fate of Alpha, now level 18.

I felt sorry for the man as he sent out a level 11 Poochyena. The poor soul never stood a chance against Alpha's mighty jaws of justice. After the battle, the man handed over his stolen goods and skedaddled before Alpha could vanquish his soul to anti-existence. I strolled out of the cave with a smirk as Alpha swaggered alongside me. Neither of us could see a scenario where we would ever meet our maker. Peeko followed cautiously, staying back perhaps both in awe and terror of the divine intervention that saved his young life.

Upon exiting the cave, the old man, who introduced himself as Briney, thanked us dearly for rescuing his best friend and asked that we see him in his cabin some time. That would have to go on the back burner, however, as I had a stolen package to return.

The Devon druggie was awaiting my return anxiously. Upon seeing that I had accomplished his mission, he dragged me to the top of the Devon building and introduced me to the president, a man named Stone. Mr. Stone gave me a decide called a Pokenav and sent me on my way. As I exited Rustboro town to the south, I ran into May, who said Briney was waiting for me.

Better hurry. He seems impatient.

Upon arriving at his shack, Briney was ecstatic to see me, as he groveled at my feet. In actuality, he was basically worshiping a false god, as the real deity lay dormant in a Pokeball on my belt, but the appreciation felt good. In an attempt to repay me, he offered to ferry me to Dewford Town, a town I knew to feature the second gym and my next target. I gladly accepted.

After a bit of a rocky ride -- I've never been good with sea-faring -- we had arrived in Dewford. My first impression was that I'd just stepped back in time five years. Everybody seemed so behind. I walked up to a guy loitering outside the Pokemon Center and he asked if I'd heard about "FULL SERVICE." Ever experience Déjà vu? It was one of those moments.

Anyways, I was about to walk into the town's gym when I recalled something Mr. Stone asked of me. He wanted me to find his son, Steven, and give him a letter. I figured I should probably get on that before I forgot, but I didn't see him anywhere in town. I headed north to a cave, where a stocky hiker gave me the HM flash. It didn't do me any good, seeing as all I had was Alpha, but I'm sure it will come in handy eventually. As I slid down the ladder at the end of the tunnel, I began feeling my way through the pitch black level below, stepping on what I assumed was a rock -- that is until it jumped at me.

That's not a rock. That's an Aron. That would make a wonderful slave to the will of Alpha. I thought fast and instructed Alpha to hit the Aron with a few bites to weaken it before tossing a Pokeball and successfully enslaving the new minion. I named him Wrecker and immediately taught him the HM cut that I had picked up in Rustboro town.

As I continued to feel my way through the cave, I finally found myself back at the first floor and heading toward what seemed to be the end. Upon entering the last room, I was met by a guy with steel blue hair and a fancy suit. It was Mr. Stone's son, Steven. We talked briefly and I handed him his letter before he departed, then I fought my way back out of the cave, seeing Alpha grow to level 21. There was nothing left to do now but take on Brawley, the Dewford Town Gym Leader.

Will Michael and Alpha continue their reign of terror? Can anybody stop the ultimate beast in the making? Does Wrecker know he is destined for mediocrity? Find out next time, on the next episode of....ALPHA'S ULTIMATE SOLO CHALLENGE

I'm actually all the way through the gyms in Ruby at the moment, but I'll do my updates in small bursts I think.

ROOIBOS the TYRANITAR
Level 81
Crunch / Thrash / Rock Slide / Earthquake

Rooibos wouldn't evolve without the National Dex, so I hacked it in. By I got to Silph Co he was a Tyranitar and way over levelled so I lay waste to everything in the whole rest of the game. Bruno's Machamp was the only time I had trouble in the Elite Four... couldn't one-shot it, and Cross Chop almost killed me, then he used a Full Restore. Luckily the next chance he got to hit me he used Scary Face.

I'm gonna make this an Ultimate. Will start on Gold in the morning.

UPDATE: Finished Gold. Trying to decide whether to go with Ruby or Emerald for 3rd gen.

SMEARGLE SOLO CHALLENGE
HARDCORE EDITION​

LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN!

So I have decided that I want to take part in a challenge run through Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, but I wanted to to be both challenging, fun, and as interesting as possible. I have decided that I would like my Pokémon to be none other than Smeargle! His ability to Sketch moves allows an very interesting dynamic in that it allows me to Sketch moves that give me type advantages in combat, which somewhat diminishes the challenge in many ways - as it allows me to be far more flexible than a Pokémon that is restricted to moves that are within its typing. The disadvantage here is that I am locked into that move type until I can Sketch another move in 10 levels and I am still bound to the initial Sketch move typing that leaves me vulnerable to any immunity and resistances of every encounter within those 10 levels.

For added challenge I will be implementing a Hardcore rule, in which the only healing items allowed to be used are berries, no potions, revives, or PP restoration items. If Smeargle faints my run will be over and I will have considered the challenge a failure.

SMEARGLE SOLO CHALLENGE
HARDCORE EDITION​

UPDATE #1

Our journey began mid day today as we set off for Rustboro City. Much of the day was spent exploring Route 102 and Route 104 outside of Petalburg City. Dad had asked me to help a boy named Wally catch his first Pokémon and we found a Ralts that was perfect for him!

Route 104 was a great site to see, Smeargle and I spent some time playing in the sand and even challenged another trainer to a short Pokémon battle! After our battle, it was time to continue on with our journey through the Petalburg Woods and onward to Rustboro City to challenge the local Gym Leader to a battle for my first gym badge.

Stepping into the Petalburg Woods had a feeling of great wonder with a hint of an eerie uncertainty lingering in the fresh air. Smeargle and I played in the woods, climbing trees and hiding in the grass. It was not long before we stumbled upon a Devon researcher who was looking for a Shroomish, and was immediately confronted by a thug dressed like a pirate who was demanding that the researcher hand over papers to him. After the thug had threatened me not to cross Team Aqua, he had challenged Smeargle and I to a battle for the papers. His Poochyena and him tried to fight dirty by throwing sand into Smeargle's face using Sand Attack and scare us by letting out a fierce Howl. They were no match for Smeargle's artistic Hidden Power. After his defeat, the thug had scrambled to his feet saying he had other matters to attend to in Rustboro City and he ran off into the woods. The Devon researcher had ran after him in hopes to beat him back to Rustboro City.

Smeargle and I spent a bit more time training in the woods against a few passing bug catchers, in order to better prepare ourselves for our battle against the gym leader of Rustboro City and after a few short victories, had finally made our way to the North side of Route 104.

Upon leaving the Petalburg Woods, we found the Pretty Petal Flower Shop where some wonderful ladies helped teach us a bit more about berry picking and the benefits of using berries. One of them even gave me a Wailmer Pail so that I can water any berries I plant.

We finally made it to Rustboro City and we found a Pokémon Center to rest at for a bit. May met us at the Pokémart and was also preparing to take on the Rustboro City gym leader after she had added a couple more Pokémon to her team. She needs all the help she can get if she wants to pass me up as a Pokémon trainer. Smeargle and I can handle anything together if we just set our mind to it!

After resting up for a bit, we decided to head North to Route 116 to train for a bit before taking on the local gym leader who is named Roxanne, who is apparently an Honor's Student who favors Rock type Pokémon. Fortunately, I had met a Hiker named Clark, who had his Geodude duo to help me prepare for my main battle against Roxanne. He had told me that the best way to combat Rock type Pokémon would be to use a Grass or Water type move, exploiting a weakness for Rock type Pokémon - and with that, it was time for Smeargle to paint his first masterpiece!

Smeargle and I had set out once again, this time back to the South end of Route 104 to see if we could capture the art of a Wingull using Water Gun. With Smeargle and his sketchpad at the ready, we finally bumped into a wild Wingull who was careful not to get too aggressive against Smeargle and I. After a bit of taunting from Smeargle and I, it was only a matter of time until the Wingull was baited into using Water Gun on Smeargle to allow him to Sketch a masterpiece!

It was time to challenge Roxanne to a battle for the Stone Badge! She wasted no time with small talk, and immediately sent out Geodude, who was ready for battle. Water Gun was super effective and quickly knocked out the opposing Geodude. Roxanne's Nosepass was much more durable to the Water attack, and had unleashed a few devastating blows on Smeargle using Rock Tomb. Smeargle was weak, but he had eaten the Oran Berry he was holding on to, in order to unleash a last attack on Nosepass to end the battle. Together, we had defeated Roxanne to earn our very first badge - the Stone Badge!

Our victory was not without peril, Smeargle was gravely injured in the battle and needed immediate medical assistance and I had to rush him to the Rustboro City Pokémon Center where he is currently being taken care of. I should use this time to end my entry for today, and catch up on some much needed rest. Smeargle and we have a long road ahead of us and when he is feeling better, we will head out on our next adventure!
