Okay, so i had this idea... nah.. i just notice that there are some competition in the community, so why not make a thread - or something like that - that will notify the members that there is this kind of competition going on.

    Example:
Fakemon contest #1 : Arts and Design [January 24 - February 1] etc.

It's really a pain in the ass to enter every forum just to check, ya know..

EDIT: Or some kind of PC Contests Section. Where contests are being held

A majority of the time, when there's a section holding a contest, there will be announcements of the contests through PC's twitter and Facebook pages, in case you didn't know.

But hmm, I want to say I like your idea, yet at the same time I don't. Sometimes we'll have event notices on the index page, but those could get annoying to some members, especially if they're up past the event date.

I like the idea of keeping all active competitions in a thread as you'd easily be able to see when it's updated, plus if it's a thread accessible by everyone there'd be no need to rely on timekeeping from the one person that's managing it as everyone could post their events & deadlines. Events are posted on PC's Twitter and Facebook page, but I know a lot of people don't want to follow those with their 'real life' accounts or even just don't use social networking sites like those, so I think this would be a good universal way to promote events. Good suggestion!

I think a whole section for it would be a tad overkill though, haha.

The FC&G thread got me thinking about methods of advertisement within the community. One idea I had was an announcement box on the forum index, just like how an individual forum has one. Moderators or whoever would be able to set certain announcements from their section to display universally. It'd be a lot more versatile than notices and easier to keep up with.
I would personally like to see this happen. However, a thread would be more technically feasible.

What if you had a PC bot or whatever send you a private message notifying everyone of the event. Plenty of places do this for welcoming people, so how hard could it possibly be for notifying them of competitions. Everyone checks their notifications, I'm sure and it wouldn't have to be something that would manually need to be taken down.

That's my idea at first, but it would be a total overkill if PC will send a PM on each and every members of the community, not to mention PC has over 100k members. That would be a real pain in the ass.

That's a lot of PMs for that bot to queue up and could very well require enough database queries to take down even our new server we switched to a couple months ago. Also, section-specific events are a fairly frequent thing and would fill up the PM boxes of users quite fast.

    Audy, confirm or deny please?

I much prefer the solution Wolf put forward.

I was just thinking about this haha. I like Wolf's suggestion, but Ozzy's is just as feasible. The only problem with the latter is people knowing about the particular thread. And with the former- there'd be a way for users to close particular notifications, right? Otherwise that could get cluttered and annoying.

Most members don't frequent every section on PC and wouldn't be interested in every competition. But since contests and other events are much to increase activity and interest for a section, it could actually help having a thread announcing events in, say, Community Announcements, where only mods (or people sanctioned by mods) would post but anyone could subscribe to.

But wait, didn't we just get a global announcement box? Maybe we don't want to clutter it with every active event though?
