The American college thing probably has it's roots in our early obsession in differing ourselves from Britain as an English speaking country.

I think Perth has all girls and all boys schools.

I know there's something called methadist ladies college, so pretty sure dudes won't be going there. XD (yeah, spelling of the school, idk >_>;)
