FireRed hack: [COMPLETE][pokefirered] Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen+

I am enjoying your hack. I recently got into nuzlockes and I loved this as a definitive experience of FRLG. I typically disable EV training and IVs ( similar to RRs minimal grinding mode.) and only work with natures as a variable.

That said, I wish for a way to add rare candies and money to the game. I don't want to grind levels ( and risk grind deaths) and game corner coins (for tms obviously). I would simply like to buy or edit it in. Since we can't edit the bag or use action replay codes, could you please help?

If you're going to cheat anyway, open your save in PKHeX and max out your money and coins and manually set the levels of your party to your intended cap. I eased grinding by adding a 2x experience mode but this is a JRPG (which means you're expected to do some leveling up; it's basically the entire genre) with a very dumb AI that can be easily beaten with a level disadvantage. You have more tools with which to outmaneuver the AI trainers in FRLG+ when compared to vanilla thanks to infinite TMs, infinite and more varied tutors, more possible Pokemon selections, etc. I won't be adding infinite Rare Candies. If players want to cheat, they should do so externally.

Grind deaths are part of the Nuzlocke challenge. If you're not careful, you lose Pokemon. If you're grinding on trainers, turn on Easy Mode for the grind to lower their levels until the Pokemon you are training can handle them. Additionally, my Nuzlocke Mode is set up so that you can still catch as many Pokemon as you want to fill up the dex, so catch Pokemon and grab the Exp. Share from the Aide and suddenly the Pokemon you're training never has to see the battlefield and risk death. If you feel a death was unfair, turn off Nuzlocke Mode, heal that Pokemon, and then turn it back on. I don't lock out any of the Key System options after their initial selection like some other hacks do for their difficulty options for this reason. By design, the only penalty for changing your difficulty options in FRLG+ is needing to interrupt your play session with a soft reset. I feel that that is enough friction for most players to keep playing on when they're dealt a bad hand.

I love this hack; however is there a way to make this work with automatic trackers such as the Pokemon Ironman? I'm doubtful you do but I was curious since It'd be cool since if you stream it'll let people know what your pokemon are.

Thanks for a prompt reply. I agree that grinding levels is a part of the experience. I guess 2x is fair trade. On the other hand, grinding game corner coins is just dumb.

How do I add money to my save with PkHex? Does that not go in the item slot? After your warning, I am too scared to corrupt my save.

Did you breed them with Sea/Lax Incense respectively as that is a Gen 3 mechanic for those babies

I'll probably add the Emerald IV checker in the next update, but the Gen 3 version of the IV-checking NPC is not very useful. I feel that, since this is a Gen 3 ROM hack with Gen 3 Pokemon generation mechanics, there's almost no need to view IVs or EVs directly. You can beat everything in the game, even on Challenge Mode, quite easily with random IVs and messed-up EVs. There is an option in the Key System Menu to make all IVs be treated as perfect if having suboptimal Pokemon really bothers people. I understand the compulsion to min-max, but let's be real, you're not using these mons in competitive tournaments and if you transfer them up to Home you can Hyper Train them. I also don't want to supplant the official Gen 3 games when it comes to getting good Pokemon. This is meant to be a drop-in replacement for FRLG, not to be the only optimal way to obtain Gen 3 Pokemon to the point where collecting Pokemon in FRLG+ is the only viable way to do so.

You can sort-of view your Pokemon's EVs the same way you can in Emerald: saving, using the EV reduction berries and counting how many it takes to zero a stat out, and then resetting.

Thanks for playing!
That's fair ... I don't mind suboptimal stuff, I think it's part of the game (I don't like just giving everything 31iv, so I don't use that feature).

In my ideal world I can quickly view the EVs and IVs quickly so I can see what it's good in, what kind of set I might want to run, where I may need to train a bit extra etc... just a quality of life thing so I don't need to look up it's stats, similar to what you've done with the indicators for nature. (Which is much appreciated)

I'll live if a EV/IV display is outside of the scope of this project.

Great work on the mod, the nostalgia is off the charts playing it.

one thing i've not seen anyone put it how do you get both hitmonlee and hitmonchan? to complete the pokedex I feel like i've searched for ages.

one minor change I think would be good, would be to maybe increase the spawn rates on certain pokemon in the safari zone as not only do you have the issue encountering the rare pokemon you also have the issue trying to catch it appreciate its supposed to be RNG and we love the grind. not asking for a mega change just maybe double percentages of encounters and chance to capture.

Cheers :)

I think the only way is to breed one... That's what I did anyways. Breed your hitmochan/lee with a ditto and evolve tyrogue into the one you need.

sorted it now thanks, stupidly enough i found it whilst looking through the FAQ's couldn't believe I missed it though. One bug I have found is when I evolved a poliwhirl into a poliwrath my ex share disappeared anyone else have the same issue?

I only recently discovered this hack and have been enjoying it since I appreciate it sticking as close to the original Fire Red as possible but with some QOL stuff.

I don't know if this odd bug has been reported at all - I browsed the thread a bit and didn't see it mentioned but somehow I was able to revive the Dome Fossil and Old Amber twice at Cinnabar Island so I got 2 Kabuto and 2 Aerodactyl. I don't know how it happened but it was a bit of a fun surprise. I also seem to still have the Gold Teeth in my inventory even after giving them to the warden but it's been so long since I played the game maybe that's always been the case. Either way, thanks for the hack!

The legendary beasts could be made legal without having the roaming IV glitch if their data is taken from Colosseum or an event. I think that Pokemon Throwback, another Pokemon FRLG rom hack, did this.

I don't know what that is. If it's a stream overlay, offsets have been shifted so they would likely have to be done custom and they would change every update.

Open the save -> SAV tab -> Trainer Info -> Edit the money field next to the TID. If you're afraid of corrupting your save, make a copy of it first. You can also add Game Corner coins directly in PKHeX in the SAV tab -> Misc Edits. I will probably be expanding the money and coin fields in the save file in a future update, so PKHeX might not be able to directly edit them when I do.

I added that to the FAQ after your question since it's the third time someone's asked how to get the other Hitmon. You're not going crazy--it literally wasn't there when you first read it.

I think I'd rather keep the rare safari mons rare for now. I may revisit encounter chances in the future. The Poliwhirl -> Poliwrath evolution consuming held items is fixed for the next release.

Both the double revivals and the Gold Teeth sticking around shouldn't happen. Thanks for these reports. I'll look into them. I'm starting to think updating my repo to the latest pret without doing much more extensive playtesting was a bad idea.

So why does this rom hack contain the Battle Tower, but not the Battle Frontier as a whole?

Vanilla FRLG left like 75+% of the RS Battle Tower intact in its code. It took me maybe an hour or so to restore its full functionality (minus the maps, which I redid). On the other hand, literally none of the Battle Frontier implementation was included in the base game, and the Battle Frontier needs much more extensive infrastructure to work, since it messes with all kinds of systems (the battles themselves, new AI routines, needs a bunch of new specials, new UIs, new menus, porting of the Frontier Pass, porting of the Battle Pyramid floor generation algorithms, all the rosters and how they're selected, etc.). Not to mention, with the way it is now, the Battle Frontier data can't fit in the save file.

Basically, I wanted a postgame facility, since FRLG was sorely lacking one, and the RS Battle Tower was the path of least resistance. The work required to backport the Battle Frontier is enormous, no one has done it before, and I wasn't willing to be the first to do it for this hack.

The legendary beasts could be made legal without having the roaming IV glitch if their data is taken from Colosseum or an event. I think that Pokemon Throwback, another Pokemon FRLG rom hack, did this.

Legendary Beasts with a Colosseum metGame are illegal in Gen 3 with a Kanto metLocation (which is what they would end up having if forced to spawn with a Colosseum metGame in FRLG+). All Pokemon obtainable in FRLG+ are meant to be legal in Gen 3, so there's no way for me to create legal ones without the glitch. If it bothers you, turn on one of the IV modes in the Key System Menu or straight-up trade in your beasts from Colosseum.

As for update news, I'm still working on FRLG+ bit by bit, but the going is slow as I am extremely busy in my actual life. I don't have anything else I feel comfortable talking about at this time when it comes to development. Again, thanks for playing everyone and for your continued support.

Would you ever consider making and adding achievements to RetroAchievements for this? I bet they'd be a fun set of achievements to grind through.

If I understand RA correctly, community members can create achievement sets. Other hacks like Unbound, Radical Red, and both versions of Emerald Rogue have sets, so maybe you could start one.

Does this contain the special and physical type split?
It does not, this is mentioned in the faq of the github, listed on the first page of this thread by the creator.

I've also encountered the bug with being able to revive multiple of the same revived fossil without using the item. I'm not sure what the conditions are to execute the bug, but I know when I only had the old amber & the dome fossil I managed to revive both multiple times without using their respective key item.

I'd also like to add something I noticed on the first time entering 4 Island, I got softlocked after exiting the cable car to get to the main part of the island. I was able to escape the softlock thanks to having a pokemon with Fly, and afterward that exit worked as intended. (Note, this was on mGBA. Either 0.10.3, or 0.10.2.) (Now that I'm actively using the daycare, this softlock seems to happen at random points while on 4 Island? If I can find out more I'll edit this post.)

Aside from Evolutions, are Hoen and Johto pokemon only availble post-game?

Last question if that's alright. Does this Romhack work on John GBA on andriod?
