    Simple enough question, did you?

    It seems like a lot of people forget the idea of the Pokémon franchise is to indeed, catch 'em all!

    It's impossible to catch 'em all with the National Dex in Ruby and Sapphire without the help of Emerald or Fire Red and Leaf Green as many Pokémon were hard coded to be only male in (side) games such as Colosseum and XD, with male Pokémon not being the species dominant of the offspring if bred with a Pokémon in the same egg group.

    Example; Male Bagon + Female Dratini = Dratini

    Before the GTS, it was dark, dark times.

    I did complete the Hoenn Dex in Emerald back in 2009, five years ago so I could get the Johto starter. I never really put any effort into the National Pokédex, though, that cartridge is like over 2/3 the way there lol.

    I think me and my friend tried when we were kids, however we gave up after trying to catch chansey.

    I did complete it, even if for some of the Pokémon it was really tedious. I spent a week hunting for that darn Feebas. I also bought the Gamecube games to get all Johto starters, all roamers and Ho-Oh and Lugia. The Gamecube games were OK, but obtaining Ho-Oh in Colosseum and Johto starters in XD (which I got before Colosseum, so I got my starters that way) was the most tedious thing ever. On the other hand, thanks to the Gamecube games I could easily find some Pokémon that were really hard to obtain in the GBA games, so that was cool.

    And finally, after "completing" the Pokédex, obtaining the diploma and feeling no satisfaction at all, I cracked and used an Action Replay to obtain the Event Exclusives and fill the only missing slots I had left.

    Completing the Hoenn Dex in Emerald and getting a Johto started was the coolest thing since bacon for me, since it wasn't possible to trade over from Gen I-II and I was convinced that the only way to get the Johto starters was from Emerald (didn't really know about Colosseum/XD back then :/)

    Then one of my brother's friends had Colosseum or XD, don't remember which, so he had like every Johto starter and several other Johto Pokémon I was never able to get. That seemed like the coolest thing ever since I only really had GBC, GBA and getting a Gamecube with Colosseum/XD seemed so far out of my reach that anyone who had them were almost gods to me or something, hehe.

    I filled it up as much as I could. To be honest it was really hard to get Johto Pokémon back in the days, especially as you could only get them via Navel Rock, which is only Emerald and FR/LG exclusive. Most of the Pokémon I caught I ended up transferring to my Emerald. I literally done this to get the three Johto beasts, and the Kanto starters. Took a while, I must say! Reset the game 3 times ;-;

    I did end up completing the Hoenn Dex. My friend did have a Cyndaquil, and I got a Totodile from Birch. Ended up not getting Chikorita, because eh. Not resetting the game, had too much of that XD

    I tried. I was only missing the event pokemon and Ho-oh. Did get a chanel Jirachi though. The first time I completed my dex was in diamond.

    I managed to 'Catch 'em all!' in the Hoenn Pokédex, but I never managed to get anywhere near to completion on my journey to completing the National Pokédex. Hopefully I'll manage to do that sometime when I have a lot of time on my hands, such as my Summer Break which begins this Friday.

    I managed to complete the Hoenn Pokédex when I was slightly older, but I never managed to get close to the completion of the National Pokédex. However, when my school ends soon for Summer Break, I hope to have a Pokémon Game marathon alongside expanding my Pokémon merchandise collection.

    I completed the Hoenn Dex in Sapphire, but I never completed the National Dex in gen 3 (though I've completed it in gens 4 and 6). I also completed the Kanto Dex in LeafGreen. Overall, I think I've completed Pokedexes in most games, except for gen 5.

    I remember playing Colosseum before Ditto was available, and resetting over and over again to get females for all of the Johto Pokemon so I could breed more of them. Aside from Espeon and Umbreon at the start of the game, I don't recall any being hard-coded male, though it sometimes took a lot of resets to get the gender I wanted. (Plus, to balance things out, I wanted males for all of the Hoenn Pokemon, so that made things even worse.) Colosseum has in many ways been more fun on later playthroughs, now that I no longer have to worry about gender on each snag.

    Although I did try (extremely hard at that), I still wasn't able to complete my Pokédex, unfortunately. I was missing Feebas, and regardless of how tough my attempt was, I still couldn't find it. Eventually, I wound up giving up, haha. My friend had three of these Pokémon, if I remember correctly, but couldn't give any to me as none of us had link-cable at the time. I wish, though!

    i didn't manage to complete the whole Hoenn dex( i feel ashamed) because i needed the Events and that

    Ruby is the only Pokemon game I've ever owned where I completed the regional Pokedex without using a cheat to automatically get data on all the Pokemon. Even got Jirachi and Deoxys :3 The one Pokemon I was most worried about getting was Milotic; however, someone had traded me one, and I ended up breeding it and getting a Feebas <3 Never completed the Nat. Dex, though; that would've been too much effort for me, haha.

    Whoa, how did you end up getting a legit Deoxys in RSE? I haven't heard of anyone getting him before :o Did you have an Aurora Ticket for Deoxys?

    Wait, were those legendary Pokemon required to complete the Pokedex in Emerald? Does anyone remember? Because I don't recall getting those Pokemon but I definitely remember completing the dex.

    No event pokémon have never been required to get the certificate off the GameFreak guy - I got it in Platinum then realised I forgot to get a Manaphy xD

    Personally I never completed it due to a lack of friends to trade with and wireless adapters/link cables. Especially frustrating as now I can't even do that in Gen IV. I did look up which pokémon were catchable in both Emerald and LeafGreen and get their pokédex to the maximum possible completion level (it remains the only time in 3 generations that I've captured a Feebas).

    I do like how LeafGreen really takes you back to that initial pokédex completion goal though.

    Someone traded it to me, so I wouldn't know. That being said, there's a good chance they did use an AR or Gameshark or something to get the Aurora Ticket ;;

    I did and still to this day have my untouched Aurora Ticket Deoxys in my Fire Red file :) I was fortunate enough to get to the event in the UK.

    You don't need Jirachi or Deoxys to complete it, no.
