Serious Conforming/not comforming

It's pretty obvious over the last year that people do not want to adhere to set rules, for example I noticed on my social media feed a rebellious attitude towards returning mask mandates. (but this is not a thread about that at all).

How much do you confirm/are there certain things in society you do not agree with? I'll write an example.

I strongly dislike the stigma and push society shoves at people to be in a romantic relationship. It seems people have created very nasty terms for people not in a relationship (such as lonely, loser, etc). Even with these labels, I still haven't wanted to be in a relationship. I cherish my family/friends and I feel no need at all for such a thing. If it makes me a "loser"...oh well.

I actually lost my a close friend because of somebody with an opposing view. Her spouse had apparently decided opposite genders could not simply be friends, and forced her to cut me off. It was even weirder because it was an online friendship with the occasional phone call. Not like really knew each other. I had mixed feelings, but in the end I respect his view point. People think differently I guess.

Do you know if your friend is doing okay? Is neither a platonic nor a romantic relationship expert. Raises red flags when a person cuts off their partner's friends or family. Acknowledges reasonable conditions exist to trigger that. Finds it concerning, regardless.

    - Agrees with you on relationships being "required". Never entered into a romantic relationship. What is wrong with friends? Experienced little negativity around it, fortunately. (Garners a raised eyebrow sometimes. Faults no one for that. Understands.)

    - Acts very reclusively. Frowns on that a bit. Improved with introversion becoming more normalized. (Pushes beyond "normal" introversion, admittedly. Shh.)

    - Expressed zero desire for children. Would be an awful parent. Predicts a high chance of emotional neglect and/or resentment. Deserves better.

I do not believe in nor do I support the vast majority of social norms or courtesies.

Social norms are just rules made up by random people. Who's the person who woke up one day and went, "You know what, I don't think men should wear nail polish" for example. For the most part they're just silly and a way to make others feel worse about themselves.

As long as it doesn't have actual negative impact on other people ("actual" meaning something other then them being upset about it) then there's no real reason why they should be followed. Do what makes you happy. I actively avoid every person in my life who believes in and enforces social norms. It's just toxic.

Sorry to hear about that and hopefully they're come around in due time. 😩
