I would love to have a midnight release near me. I'm in Orlando, FL... and when I asked a gamestop if they were doing a midnight release they said "ummm, we don't normally do it for pokemon games because they're... for kids"

Meanwhile, I am pretty far from being a youngster, and would love to find somebody that is midnight releasing. Where have you guys found midnight release happening?

Yeah I'm wondering if there's any midnight release parties/launch day here in St.Louis too. The nearest one I know about is a launch day party in Jefferson , Missouri and that's a 2 hour drive from here. There's no way I'd be able to get to that so I'm hoping there's events here in St. Louis city itself. Maybe not a midnight release or anything but just events where I can maybe even win a copy myself so I wouldn't have to wait till maybe November or December to get the game.

Check non brand video games store they usely do midnight sales and have little party at there store. they buy pizza and sale 99 cent cans of monster

That guy right there shouldn't be working at a video game store.

If its true I'm really disappointed, even though Charizard is my favorite pokemon it feel unfair that he the only kanto starter to get two forms...

Its possible the others do, they probably just chose to show Charizard's because he's more popular.

I'm from the Tampa area in Florida, and I'm also getting my copy of Y from GameStop.. I kinda figured as such that there wouldn't be a midnight release, but by no means is Pokémon for kids.. I mean, I went to GameStop by myself in August to get my copy of Pokémon Y pre-ordered without my parents and I used my own money as well. Whoever said that doesn't know much about the franchise apparently.

OMG I can't wait any longer!!

There should be no age limit for any video game franchise, especially Pokémon.

I agree with this 100% and I hate it when people make Pokemon out to be a "child's game" I for one feel that Pokemon is one of those games that someone can enjoy at any age, but oh well. You will always have those who see it as an immature kids game. I don't care though what people think as I will happily be playing my X&Y games as an adult :]

Harry Potter is for kids and they still get a midnight release. :(

Uhhh. Ignorant much? That guy probably sits at home and plays COD all day if he thinks Pokémon is a children's game.

Jesus christ you guys are being hostile very unreasonably.

Pokemon's target demographic are kids. Pokemon is marketed towards kids. It is reasonable for a manager to not do a mid night release when there will only be a few adults that will buy it in their local area because kids won't be awake at that time. This is no GTA or Call of Duty to warrant such a big thing. I know I wouldn't do it.

You guys are pissed over a single understandable comment. It says more about you than the employee.

It is not, and it's a different context entirely.

Yeah but even so, I'm fairly certain more adults play Pokemon nowadays then kids. The adults of today are the ones who were kids when Pokemon first came out after all. The local stores who choose to host midnight release events most likely realize that. Nintendo seems to also have noticed the audience is a bit older then 10 years old too. The commercials for X and Y seem to show that since they all feature teenagers/young adults.

Actually HP is for kids too...it's a children's book and is market as such, at least the books. Just like Pokémon it's in 'What do you Mean it's for Kids' trope.

Also by now most of the fan base should be in their teens or early twenties...if they didn't lose half of them in the past few generations.

I went to Target and found two young kids(looked like...6 or 8 or something), and they were huddled around the XY promos, pointing at Xerneas and Yvetal and commenting how cool legendary pokemon were. Basically, ever store I go to, it's the same thing; very small children making up rumors about the new games and huddled around the promotional area. Not once have I seen a teenager or adult huddled around the XY pre-orders or promotional posters. If I didn't know better, I'd say Pokemon only appeals to those tiny kids.

I bought a reservation card once they left, but it's clear that kids enjoy pokemon as much as we do, if not more.

That brings a tear to my eye...I remember being that way when I was their age and used to watch the anime...Mewtwo, Lugia, Rayquaza...

I've seen pre-teens around here doing that.

Are you serious? Where's your evidence? You can't throw a claim like that without anything to back it up.
The adults of today are the ones who were kids when Pokemon first came out after all.
And are you saying most of these adults are still playing? And what about the abundance of kids that just got into Pokemon?
The local stores who choose to host midnight release events most likely realize that. Nintendo seems to also have noticed the audience is a bit older then 10 years old too.
Nintendo certainly know their audience, and they certainly know kids cover the majority of them. Sure there are plenty of adults but they only represent a minority. But that's irrelevant right now.
The commercials for X and Y seem to show that since they all feature teenagers/young adults.
Teenagers are the same. You don't expect them to buy games on mid night. In fact you don't expect anyone to buy any games on mid night unless they're one of those hardcore gamers, which mostly consists of gamers that play mature rated games. The amount of hardcore Pokemon gamers are very low, give or take. They only represent a vocal minority.

It's the same reason why Mario games, Zelda games, Sonic games, etc don't get mid night releases often either.

You're right, there's not many hardcore gamers of those games...actually Nintendo games don't seem to appeal much to people I've met who call themselves such...

I hope the champion this gen is another woman. I love Cynthia. I get the feeling that short haired, celebrity chick in white is the new champ.

Iris was such a weird choice last gen, much preferred Alder.

Pokémon isn't really aimed at a specific age-group, it's who chooses to play it and currently in this generation I'd say it is mixed. There are just as many teenagers - young adults who play as there are children, the reason behind this is because people like me who have played since the franchise first debut all those years ago are still sticking by it because of all those memories. There are popular games that appeal to a specific target audience, the likes of Call Of Duty, Halo, FIFA etc and sure they're popular amongst the teenager age group right now, however Pokémon still remains the second most popular franchise globally.

I'd say that the majority of older players that play are those who have been playing the games since they were younger, and now that Pokémon is still going strong after seventeen years, it's only natural to still have a strong following from a similar audience. Any newcomers are going to be kids because Pokémon is generally stereotyped for kids, but that doesn't necessarily make it true. To me, Pokémon is just a good (if not better) than any other gaming franchise out there, and as I've said in a previous post there should be no age limit to Pokémon.
