Event Information

Welcome to Create-a-Pokémon. Heavily inspired by Duck's/Cubeth's Fakemon Design Contest, this is a contest all about creating your own (duh) Pokémon! This year we will be doing one prompt only, with the event running from Thursday 18th July - Friday 26th July.

Following the Olympics theme of this year's GT, this year's prompt is:

Create your own Pokéathlete!​

To clarify: you will need to create a Pokémon that would do well in one Pokéathlon Event of your choice - for reference, click here. You don't need to necessarily come up with the specific Pokéathlon stats for your Pokémon, just so that ideas can be a bit more open to interpretation as opposed to having to make sure it's something that has a high Speed/Skill/Jump stat for one event.

Submission Rules

Submissions must follow these rules:

1. One entrant per user only. This also goes for any people teaming up - you cannot team up to make one entry and then make your own entries on top of that.
2. KEEP IT PG - no gore/suggestive/etc. material, just imagine that you're producing something you would show a 10 year old kid.
3. Entries must be made AFTER the prompt is handed out.
4. NO usage of AI to create any part of the prompt. We do not like AI usage here.

Rule 2 and 4 being broken will result in moderation and disciplinary action where required, as this is breaking PokéCommunity rules.

Submissions, once completed, are to be sent via forum/Discord PM to myself by 00:00 EST July 25th.

Points and scoring

Scoring for the event will follow the same rubric as last year. This is as follows:

• 40% of points for how well you match the prompt
• 30% for visual design*
• 30% for textual design**

*To clarify, visual design is just how well you can visually depict the Pokémon to us. This can be done of course through various art mediums/methods. Note that this does NOT necessarily equate to someone who is 'better' at art automatically winning. If you are not confident in your ability to be able to do this visually, you are more than welcome to try and instead describe your Pokémon!
**To clarify, this is how well you have managed to create the lore for your Pokémon. Does the Dex entry make sense when looking at the overall design, does it match up with the visual aspects of the Pokémon, does it thematically make sense based on the species, and such. A good way to look at the criteria would be:

Pokémon name: Does it fit in with your Pokémon's theme? Is it fairly easy to see how the name came together? Is it something easy to say?
Typing: As cool as making your Hurdle Dash Pokémon Electric/Ground, does it make sense? Does the lore and theme explain why your Pokémon is the Type combination it is. I.e. a Pokémon that doesn't really have anything to suggest it can fly PROBABLY shouldn't be part Flying Type.
Physiology: What about your Pokémon makes it good for the event you chose? Does it make sense i.e. a Pokémon with no physical strength PROBABLY wouldn't be very good for Block Smash and therefore, wouldn't make sense.
Pokédex entry: Is this able to summarise the ideas you've put together into a simple explanation, so someone can easily see where your ideas have come from? Does it tie everything together logically?

Pokémon Name: Bouncilee
Typing: Fairy/Flying
(Art by Me I'm very talented yes I know)

Physiology: Bouncilee excels in anything involving flying and traversing long distances, due to its huge wings and spring-like legs. However because of its super-bouncy nature, it can sometimes get a little too carried away...

Pokedex Entry:
- Bouncilee can be seen hopping around just about anywhere, spreading its infectious cheer to all of those around it, whether that be Pokemon or people. When especially gleeful, Bouncilee are known to flap their wings really fast, being able to take off and soar for long distances at a time.
- Known to spread happiness wherever they go, Bouncilee bounce around everywhere, although sometimes this land them into some trouble. In this instance, it uses its coiled legs and powerful wings to make for a quick escape.

Points will be awarded as such:

Gold Medal - 150 points
Silver Medal - 100 points
Bronze Medal - 50 points
Participation - 5 points

Physiology: A large quadruped found mostly in large savanna like environments. Its body is heavily armored. Its horn is empty but solid and perfect for piercing its target. Despite its bulky size it is a fast runner and a group of them stampeding spells danger. It cannot fly despite the wings on its body.

Based on this guy's stats he'd be a killer in events like Block Smash and Relay Run!
Pokédex Entry: Stampeedle is a simple minded Pokémon. It can only focus on one task at a time.
It loves to have wrestling matches with Pokémon like Heracross. They can be found after feasting on the sap of trees it knocked over with its opponent.

Hi everyone! The results are in for Create-a-Pokémon, and between myself and my lovely judges gimmepie and TwentyExEx, we have chosen our top three entries to be:

Congratulations to you three, you have earned 250 Points for Team Aqua and 50 for Magma respectively, as well as 5 Point for participation along with everyone else! These were all really fun entries, so thank you everyone for taking part in submitting them! Below are the entries, as well as our comments.

Pokemon name: Lumifuse
Typing: Electric/Bug

Physiology: Lumifuse Feeds on electricity. It is very light sensitive and can pick up artificial light miles away to then fly at lightning fast speeds to go and feed on them with it's cord-like proboscis. This pokemon is very agile and has tons of control in the air, allowing it to zip around obstacles to avoid collision. this make Lumifuse amazing in the pokeathlon event lamp jump, as it is unrivaled in tracking lights and avoiding opponents.

Pokedex Entry:
-Lumifuse can pick up on light sources from up to 10 miles away with it's extremely light sensitive eyes, it then zips at near light speeds towards them dodging anything in there path creating a path and creating a path of electricity making most perceive there flight as a lightning bolt zipping by.

-Due to there light sensitive eyes, lumifuse hide in darkness during the day, but some pokémarts have begun selling sun resistant goggles that help Lumifuse trainers to have their lumifuse partners out in the day.

Ability: Sensitivity - In harsh sunlight this pokemon's accuracy is halfed, but everytime else this pokemon's moves will always hit.

Not in the form but I just wanna specify those goggles would be a signature held item that lumifuse would have that would negate the bad effect of it's abillity.

TwentyExEx's comments:
"Lumifuse's chosen sporting event is extremely unique compared to the other entries and that goes a long way to show the inspiration behind Lumifuse's design. There are so many fun merges of electrical devices and bug physiology on display here. I especially like the blue wire tongue and the electrical socket marking on its back. Lamp Jump is an under-represented event, and it truly feels like Lumifuse was created specifically for it. However, despite a strong concept, it needs a little more oomph to fully sell me on Lumifuse as an actual creature."

"I like this take on what looks like an augmented moth! It focuses super hard on the one event which I really like, and the design being based around a moth that is known for being attracted to lights is really smart. Visually it looks great, the Pokedex entries and Physiology are really well thought out, and choosing the event you did was a really nice and unique choice. Really like the integration of electronics in the design. Kudos!"

"This is a really fun concept, focusing in on moths and other bugs being attracted to bright lights and building Lumifuse's entire lifestyle and skillset around this idea. I very much appreciate that it's natural evolutions for survivial in the wild are what makes it ideal for a very specific Pokeathalon game while not providing much for other events. This makes it feel contextually believable and I find the way it exists within this niche appealing. Bonus points for the plug proboscis. Although, if we were grading this based on the battle stats included, I'd squint at that Ability and Item."

Pokemon Name: Shuttlebat
Typing: Bug/Flying
Physiology: An opponent MADE for Disc Catch with its wings and engineered net tail. It's wings are shaped like a badminton shuttlecock for downward speeds as it flies up and glides downward to capture the disc before it falls. It's able to use its wings to glide accurately with the neck ones helping to lessen the fall. It also has large ears to be able to hear the disc and know where they are thrown.
Pokedex Entry:
- It loves to jump really high, using its wings to zoom down and catch prey off guard with a swift flick of its tail.
- Shuttlebats like to determine hierarchy by the length of their wings and tail. The longer they are, the higher their placement.

I like to think its shiny is white so it looks like an actual shuttlecock and that's kinda cute

TwentyExEx's comments:
"I'm such a fan of object based Pokemon designs and I adore what you have done with Shuttlebat. A absolute sporting based design goes far in solidifying its Disc Catch specialty. As much as I adore the design, by the time you reach the head of Shuttlebat, the shuttlecock/badminton inspiration has lessened. I like your details on Shuttlebat hierarchy and the specifics of how it is able to perform in Disc Catch."

"I just love this so much. Really super cute design yet a design that's been tailored to the prompt. You can clearly see what event it would be good for, the Physiology and Pokedex Entries are concise and to the point. I almost think the shiny form and this should be swapped around, as it's going so hard on that shuttlecock/badminton theming. Name is a little on the nose, but a very small blip on an otherwise great entry, especially when we have much less inventive names for Pokémon. Good job!"

"While the art is obviously great, I think it could resemble a shuttlecock a tiny bit more since that's clearly a big part of the design philosophy. Otherwise you can definitely see why it would be excellent at Disc Catch and I appreciate that you've given us a lore reason as to why a creature so perfectly evolved for this niche Johto game exists in the world - some lunatic just made it that way. I'm unsure why someone would go to that extreme for Pokeathalon, but competiiton does things to people. I wouldn't have minded a little more expansion on its origins though since it does feel a tiny bit contrived. I'm not judging the name. Talonflame exists. There is a seal Pokemon called Seel."

Pokemon name: Kanterain
Species: Cloud Chasing pokemon
Type: Electric/Water
Ability: Eye of Storm- Increases the accuracy of electric moves

Physiology: A large, lean muscular pokemon with 8 legs at the shoulders and haunches. It's powerful kicks can deliver 16,000 lbs of force. It does not have a predominate limb, switching whenever one is tired, contributing to it's endurance

Kanterain moves at such a fast pace that it can dash across water. It's body temperature also reaches intense levels, and in cold environments the vapor from it's warm breath form storm clouds around it's body, enabling it to ride through the sky

Pokemon Warship: Few have what it takes to mount Kanterain. Many are left bruised, bleeding, frostbitten and drowned from the pressure changes, hail and rain in the storm clouds it gathers, but those who succeed have a formidable ally in battle.

Pokemon Chariot: A noble-hearted pokemon, fabled to whisk away spirits of slain heroes to places of honor in the afterlife. Kanterain was also summoned to witness oaths in the middle ages- anyone who swears falsely on Kanterain will be struck dead by lightning.

"The flavor text is really quite spectacular here! I appreciate the detail and thought that has gone into Kanterain's lore. A horse-like Pokemon would certainly perform well in the Pokeathlon, especially if you have the speed and bulk that Kanterain has. I believe that the design itself could have gone further in concept to separate it from its influences however."

"I like this take on Sleipnir! I love the flavour text for this, a lot of detail has been put into this and the lore/background for Kanterian, it really paints a picture for you. I enjoy that rather than something made SPECIFICALLY for the prompt, it's more a Pokémon that can excel in a Pokéathlon event. The stats for it I will say look a little crazy, but I think it matches the Pokedex and Physiology info quite well, just unsure of as a result it's perhaps a little TOO good. The design is great, it brings the whole thing together, well done!"

"Sleipnir! I do love a good mythology reference. The concept of this crazy fast, storng, multi-legged lightning horse shooting through the sky or rocketing over a lake makes for a very engaging visual and I really like the lore you attached to it. The design is awesome as well. It's cool to see something that excels just by virtue of what it is. That said though, I think by making it extremely good at basically everything, you made it feel a little less grounded in the world. I think you probably could have lowered stamina a bit and focused more on its strength and power."

Name: Fliplump Electric/Steel

Physiology: Fliplum uses electromagnetism to flip from one side to another. It can't move on its own and rely on the use of electromagnetism to move from one place to one place.

Ability: Own Tempo/ Magnet Pull
Hidden Ability: Lighting Rod

Pokedex Entry
-Fliplump likes to gather around high electricity places such as power plants. When a thundercloud gathers, it flips around erratically. It is not advised to gather around Fliplump in large group.

-When it flips, it also flips other objects upside down within its surroundings. The stronger the electricity it has, the stronger this power. Strong Psychic pokemon don't seem to be affected by this.

-Beeheeyem likes to gather around this pokemon.

My fakemon seems to be good at all the jump events such as Disc Catch and Hurdle Dash. It's not good in circle push or block smash.

"That's simply a little guy! Extremely unique method of movement and is a very strong concept for a general Fakemon. However, in regards to the prompt, I can't see myself envisioning Fliplump as a Pokeathlete. The design is cute and I love the concept around it however and can see a whole evolution line based around the electromagnetism concept."

"This is a cute lil 'mon! The design is a little basic but I can see where it was going. It's a little bouncy Pokémon, however the high Jump stat being because of what seems like electromagnetism and ESP. That said, the idea of it flipping the surroundings and stuff seems cool, but perhaps a bit too much for something like Hurdle Dash! Super fun entry!"

"There's just something about those eyes man. It's too cute. The deisgn is maybe a little simplistic, but it's hardly the only magnetic Pokemon with a basic design. I really enjoy the concept of a magnetic Pokemon that constantly flips things in its surroundings upside down when it rotates itself. It's a really creative idea and the symmetrical design matches that well. That being said, I don't think this Pokemon is partiuclarly well-suited to the Pokeathalon so it's not an ideal match for the prompt."

"Firstly, I love when creatures have little wings that are essentially useless. The name of this Pokemon is incredibly inspired and straightforward. Stampeedle feels very true to the Pokemon world with its design, which goes further than just the very accurate rendering. A bulky Pokemon for this prompt is a unique take on the typical image of an athlete, so I appreciate its proficiency at Block Smash in particular. Overall, just a wonderful design with solid flavor text that sells me on this Pokemon as a competitor."

"Amazing. Visually it looks stunning, a very believable Pokémon and it ties in perfectly with the rest of the entry. It's a big, strong, dumb beetle and that's where it excels. I like that the stats once again reflect what this Pokémon is good at, including the lower stats, nice balance! This is my winner of the event, absolutely love this fella."

"I would 100% believe this as an actual Pokemon and I'm a big fan of the idea of taking a rhinoceros beetle and then making it the size of an actual rhino. Much like with Lumifuse, I really like that it's the same natural traits that help it survive in the wild that make it ideal for certain Pokeathalon events while also serving to hinder it in others. This is a fun concept that is very well reasoned."

By the way, this is fliplump final evolution. Uflipo (U-Flip-po). Still, Psychic/Steel. Ability: Levitate.

- Uflipo uses it electromagnetism skills to absorb every objects inside itself. It antena sends out hypnotic signal that causes animal and people to fall aleep. It likes to float around where wooloo lives.

-If you see an entire area or town upside down, you can be sure that Uflipo was there. Uflipo can flip Ship and houses that are 10 times bigger than itself.

It evolves when leveling up at lv 51 or with beeheeyam in the party.

I was so busy last week, I can't make the final evolution. Still, I' was always going to choose fliplum as my submission. Sorry little guy, i don't think you'll be winning any events with any of the fakemon. The only one it can win is luke's stampeedle with the jump events. Also, i love horses, so I definately get a kanterrin in my team.
